to be angry and upset re: virgin wines

bonnieweelass · 29/10/2018 19:54

I've used a lesser known username as I feel so stupid, how could I have missed this?

For context, I have disabilities. I've only recently gotten into digital banking although I use paypal for most purchases. i have a good income and spend too much on clothes etc but have never been overdrawn.

I was looking at my paypal account and I see that for the past THREE years, I've been paying virgin wines £25 a month!

I did not sign up to any subscription. I only bought one case of wine as a present a while back.

I don't know what to do. Can I do anything? I feel so bloody stupid for not noticing and i think this is a wake up call to be more careful with my spending.

I'm in tears. The total over these years is £850!!!

What can I do?

Help me, my husband wil kill me

I think you are overreacting now, lots of people have said you will get your money back. No need to keep saying you don't want wine.

The wider world of MNet are a very knowledgeable bunch. They may gave to refund it to PayPal though as this is the method you used to make the purchases.

siakcaci · 30/10/2018 07:05

You will get it back. You will have to phone them though. Your husband isn't the account holder, you are.

Miscible · 30/10/2018 07:11

Why be angry at Virgin? They don't seem to be at fault here.

Juells · 30/10/2018 07:16

Tell your husband to fuck off if he kicks up. But...how would he ever find out?

HoppingPavlova · 30/10/2018 07:19

I will push and push for my money back if they say no, but will wait and see first.

Given numerous people have provided direct cut and paste information from the terms and conditions on their website, it would seem that you WILL get your money back with no fight, no problems, no drama.

So there will not be a problem. Can you try and re-set your mindframe with this as the standard expectation as this will reduce your stress? I say this as I have a young adult with mental health issues who also tends to catastophise. If you can help them re-set their mindframe things are better all around, especially for them.

The only ‘issue’ may be that a refund may take up to a month to be issued. I throw out that timeframe as that has been my experience with a lot of things like this. For some reason it takes an age to be processed through their system before coming back to you. BUT it will come back. So don’t stress if there is a bit of a wait. At this point you will still get it well before Xmas.

Potplant2 · 30/10/2018 07:20

Just adding my voice to those who said I did this, didn’t notice for 3 months, rang them and they refunded my £75 instantly.

Stop panicking, you’ll get it back. Think of it as a nice unexpected £850 bonus!

ipswichmum · 30/10/2018 07:39

Hope you get the response from them you wanted. Don't feel bad.

Angelil · 30/10/2018 08:28

There are much more important things in life to be angry and upset about - especially when all the evidence suggests you will get your money back.

Glittertwins · 30/10/2018 10:18

You can file a claim with your bank and get the money back very very quickly.

siakcaci · 30/10/2018 10:24

No need to file a complaint with the bank. Just call virgin wines, as per many many posts above.

Cuttingthegrass · 30/10/2018 10:31

Hopefully you have £850 in savings and can continue to save that each month. It is positive

Kardashianlove · 30/10/2018 12:20

I will push and push for my money back if they say no pp have linked to their policy though that says you can just ask for your balance back at any time. This won’t be an issue.

It’s an easy mistake to make, these things happen from time to time to everyone. No need to be worrying about it and no reason for your husband to be angry at you.

You do sound very dramatic with talk about sleepless nights and having to fight for your money back etc over something that is very straight forward and to most people would be pretty much a non event other than’oooh how exciting, I’ve now got extra money I didn’t know I had’.

Dagnabit · 30/10/2018 13:12

If they refund via PayPal, you should be able to get it transferred to a bank account without a penalty charge.

tillytrotter1 · 30/10/2018 13:18

When you buy from Virgin Wines I believe you join a Wine Club. The £850 is probably in that account, waiting for you to spend it. Personally I've bought a lot of wine from VW and also from other providers, I always then call and cancel further deliveries and clubs, their staff are almost always delightful. Give them a call.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 30/10/2018 15:05

There won't be an issue in getting your money back OP, their website clearly states you can have the money back at any time.

Please don't get yourself so wound up about it, it's really not a huge deal, we have all probably done similar things - I worked out a call centre when I was at uni and customers would frequently forget to cancel standing orders, we just sent the money back no questions asked.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 30/10/2018 15:12

However I would often take calls from
Customers who were geared up for a fight when they called up and they had mistakenly continued to pay us money. Always made me laugh as it was such a simple process to do but they were often pretty rude and aggressive about it.

bonnieweelass · 30/10/2018 16:42

you were all correct - it's been resolved and I'm getting all the money back :O

Thank you for reassuring my very stressed self last night Flowers

Great news OP!

Bibijayne · 30/10/2018 16:48

Brilliant news

TSSDNCOP · 30/10/2018 16:56

Well that’s great and totally expected.

I think what you meant to add was how good Virgin were about sorting the problem out so quickly.

bonnieweelass · 30/10/2018 17:13

no need to be sarcastic. If you can't say anything nice, go and post on another thread.

misscockerspaniel · 30/10/2018 17:32

I am so glad for you. And for the record, you are definitely not stupid.

iklboogiemanunderthebed · 30/10/2018 17:39

Brilliant news OP! Glad it was sorted so quickly for you.

Feefeetrixabelle · 30/10/2018 17:45

Christ is it kick an op while she’s down day? Did I miss the announcement? Every thread I’ve been on vultures have been swooping.

The op has explained she made a mistake, and I don’t want to be disrespectful but given the disabilities she’s described I think she can be cut some fucking slack for panicking about paying out £850 needlessly.

Op I’m thrilled it got sorted with little fuss. Enjoy your windfall.

SatsumaFan · 30/10/2018 17:53

Just read the whole thread and am delighted for you OP! Brew

And ignore the short, rude, nasty posters - there are far too many of them around here lately Angry
