To have picked up a spliff in the playpark

Took DD to the park this morning - first thing she wanted to go on was the basket swing thing. I saw a very large spliff in the basket so popped it into my pocket before lifting her into it. Then I noticed two youngish men with a little girl - the men were walking around obviously looking for something 😂😂😂. One of them gave me a few sideways looks, but it’s not like they could come up to middle-aged mumsy me to ask if I’d picked up their spliff. Twats.

Not sure these particular people can be called twats, at least not too harshly anyway. They were clearly looking for it so aren’t the type to leave it lying around. Not sure why they are walking around with a joint but other people’s business is their own. Not all weed smokers are bad parents just like not all parents who drink are bad. So I wouldn’t necessarily be feeling sorry for the girl unless she looked really unhealthy and messy etc. If she was happy, smiling and well presented, knowing her parents smoke weed wouldn’t worry me. Lots of people find it helps in some way or another, sooner it’s legalised the better I think.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 29/10/2018 15:24

To add, definitely don’t smoke it though. If you haven’t made it yourself you cannot know the strength or strain and how you will reposed to it. Also, some people do mix it with crap and you don’t want anything serious being inhaled. Never smoke what you find, I mean I wouldn’t even smoke a box of opened cigarettes just in case. Same way you don’t eat food off the street.

TheQueef · 29/10/2018 15:28

Spliff or joint here.
Never doobie.
Sometimes it's called a big fat one.

Mushroomsarehorrible · 29/10/2018 15:28

TheSheepofWallSt - @stylishmummy scumbags? It’s a spliff, not a nail bomb

Shamelessly marking place to find out what the cool folk are calling spliffs nowadays

ShartGoblin · 29/10/2018 15:42

Not much to add here just that if they were smoking it in the playground they would have noticed dropping it. The fact that they didn't implies it just fell out of their pocket.

Careless Tokers (which was probably George Michaels original title Grin ) ? Who'd have thunk it ?

Notjustanyone · 29/10/2018 16:02

I would have put it straight in the bin not my pocket. How odd.

Lazypoolday · 29/10/2018 16:36

If the OP was in Canada, Oregon, Colorado, California, Washington, Nevada, Alaska, Maine, Massachusetts or Vermont the situation may have been different

I live in one of those places and it's still not acceptable to consume marijuana at a kids playground or leave it where kids could find it. Once I saw some parents smoking a joint slightly away from the play area and I did judge tbh even though I've been known to partake myself, stinking out a playground is just rude.

I don't know why the op put it into her pocket though, why not straight into the bin?

gamerwidow · 29/10/2018 16:51

I don’t think there is anything wrong with cannabis use but I don’t think in a park while supervising your kids is the place to smoke. I like the odd glass of wine but I’d expect people to judge me if I started swigging from the bottle down the park with DD.

Exactly this. The only thing of note here is that the OP pocketed it. Baffled.

BayeauxT · 31/10/2018 23:00

Um, I “pocketed” it because I wasn’t next to a bin and my daughter was about to climb on the equipment? Anyway, I binned it later - had a look and was defintely weed. Made me feel a bit nostalgic but hey ho - merlot is my drug of choice now although I don’t tend to neck it in a playpark.

Seems like some of MN are having a sense of humour failure tonight.

For those who are saying its twattish to lose a joint in a playground, let me ask you this: when you lose stuff, do you choose where to lose it?

SushiMonster · 31/10/2018 23:19

I also want to know what the cool kids are calling a split... maybe a blunt? Not a joint surely?

SushiMonster · 31/10/2018 23:21

I think there is as much wrong with cannabis use as there is with other recreational drugs. Imas in, highly innaproporate to be doing around children or dropping in a play park.

Not sure why cannabis gets such an easy ride where as a few lines of coke and you’re devils own spawn on MN.

Won’t anyone think of the poor trafficked Vietnamese chikdren used as slave labour tending to U.K. grown cannabis :-(

Rebecca36 · 01/11/2018 00:46

Make sure you don't waste it, expensive stuff these days.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 01/11/2018 00:59

There’s a brave difference between the two.

I live in one of those places too and there are rules against smoking around playgrounds but these people weren't smoking. The spliff, doobie, cone, fatty, dutchie joint was actually on the swing so they were probably playing with their kid and it fell out of a pocket. They were still at the playground and searching for it, which means they noticed it was missing almost right away.

OP because it's legal where I live I probably would have gone over to them and said 'Did you lose something?' and given it back with a friendly look but I understand that living where it's illegal makes people nervous and unsure about how to deal with it. Also in the don't-smoke-found-weed brigade.

DGRossetti · 01/11/2018 11:43

Apparently it's become a medicine today. Fancy that !

This is so perfectly written.Grin

@DGRossetti have you seen any of the videos of people with Parkinson's being given CBD oil? It's quite remarkable.

I've seen people with MS get relief they can't get with morphine - that was 25 years ago.

Hahahaha that's so funny 😂 good for you!!
