ok is this a crazy idea. Do you think they might do a delivery on Christmas day ?

Depends where you are? Lots of places are open near us, but then we're in a central part of London. Even the local McDonalds and Boots are open. Lots of mini cabs / Uber drivers working, food deliveries etc. So it depends where you live.

SpoonBlender · 28/10/2018 11:11

Ring them and ask! We're not your local chinese place...

Thehop · 28/10/2018 11:12

Not crazy but we can’t possibly know!

My beat friend has Chinese Christmas Day. Then again, she is Chinese so they just call it “Christmas dinner”

We’re doing a Christmas dinner at a carvery the weekend before Christmas so it’s a bit cheaper then having sausage mash and Yorkshire puddings Christmas Day. No pressure and we get to spend the day playing with the kids and not stick peeling and chopping

nicebitofquiche · 28/10/2018 11:17

I know someone who used to do this every year but they got it delivered the night before and reheated on Christmas Day. They are still alive and fit and healthy.

SuperSharpShooter · 28/10/2018 11:24

I've done this a few (pretty much every year) times over the years. Order/ Collect the night before and heat tHough on Xmas day. Going away thus year so we'll be catered for. Cant remember the last time I did the whole shebang at home.

hairypaws · 28/10/2018 11:26

We're going to my brother's and having Chinese food. Local one will be open so no problem.

AiryFairyUnicornRainbow · 28/10/2018 11:31

This beats fucking around with a roast any day

PawneeParksDept · 28/10/2018 11:32

Did it once, it was mint!

Newtothis2017 · 28/10/2018 11:41

Sounds like a great idea. I might steal it

MrsSpenserGregson · 28/10/2018 11:43

Ooohhhhh I want do this! I suggested to DH and the DCs that we had a big roast on Christmas Eve and then a takeaway on Christmas Day but they hated the idea Sad How do I persuade them?!

speakout · 28/10/2018 11:43

We have done Indian takeaway several times.

Everyones favourite.

Takeaway was mobbed with other people doing the same thing.
Oh would nip out for it, I would set the table, candles, crackers, warm the plates,

Perfect. And very little washing up.

Cherries101 · 28/10/2018 11:45

Depends where you are. If in a bigger town then your Local Chinese and Indian restaurants will be open but maybe not for delivery.

GotThatWhatWhat · 28/10/2018 11:47

It's tradition amongst the US Jewish community but loads of people do this regardless of faith.

Even if it were not, you don't need the internet's permission!

Eat what you want - and check with your local Chinese restaurants so you can figure out whether to get it delivered the night before or on the day.

You do you.

littlemisscomper · 28/10/2018 11:49

@nicebitofquiche

That sounds like a good way of poisoning yourself! I wouldn't ever take that risk.

packetofpartyrings · 28/10/2018 11:50

We go for indian on Christmas day. OH isn’t fussed by turkey dinners and it costs less than £20 a head for three courses. According to the menu, they’re open for takeaways too.

I’ve usually had so many Christmas dinners at work functions by that point, I don’t miss it.

Aridane · 28/10/2018 11:51

What a fab idea (if they deliver Christmas Day)!

Dontknowwhattodo23 · 28/10/2018 11:52

My brother and his friend went to China Town in Newcastle for Christmas dinner. They really enjoyed it.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 28/10/2018 11:53

I love this idea, I’d get a whole crispy duck plus a load of side dishes.

MrsChollySawcutt · 28/10/2018 11:58

No! There would mass mutiny in our house at the thought no home cooked Xmas dinner!

I don't get the angst about it either, it's not that hard, especially if you do all your prep the day/night before. We usually eat it later in the day at about 5pm so we can have a relaxed morning of present opening and watching Arthur Christmas.

gigantus · 28/10/2018 11:59

My beat friend has Chinese Christmas Day. Then again, she is Chinese so they just call it “Christmas dinner”

lilyheather1 · 28/10/2018 11:59

A friend of my brother's does this 😊. After his wife died he and his children didn't feel like celebrating Christmas in the same way, so they order a big Chinese on Xmas Eve, put it in the fridge and reheat it Xmas day. They love it 😊

YearOfYouRemember · 28/10/2018 12:00

@MrsSpenserGregson - persuade them by telling them they are doing the planning, shopping, prep and cooking. I'd put money on suddenly the takeaway being a great idea Hmm.

Sparklesocks · 28/10/2018 12:01

Go for it, you should be able to eat whatever you want on the day - and think how much time you’ll save not cooking!!
Just ring around your local takeaways and ask them- or pop by in person.

daisypond · 28/10/2018 12:06

They would where I live - I wouldn't even be questioning it.

longwayoff · 28/10/2018 12:06

Definitely do this and watch "A Christmas Story" as well. Has a great turkey scene and a chinese meal too.
