To ask for a recommendation for a PPI company

I was full of good intentions that I was going to sort this out myself and contact companies blah blah

But I’m not. I know DH will be due a payout too.

However I don’t want a company to take a massive cut - is there anywhere where they take a reasonable percentage for the work.

Thanks.

I would like to know this too. I've actually done a few myself and not got anywhere so it would be useful to have a company try to find if there are any I have missed.

SilverHairedCat · 25/10/2018 15:36

Don't bother. Use the MSE Resolver tool:

www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance/

passtheloveon · 25/10/2018 15:37

www.reclaimppi.co.uk/
Their registration is recorded on the government website and they are authorised to trade as a business. The claim is done online only and the fees are 10%.i chose this company after much research and have recently started with a claim.it can take up to 3 months though due to the deadline for claims looming.hope this helps.

willywillywillywilly · 25/10/2018 15:39

Definitely use the MSE tool - they will guide you through with templates etc

AFrayedOfHell · 25/10/2018 15:43

Agree with resolver. I used them for Egg successfully. Capital One direct you to use Resolver for theirs.

Catspyjamazzzz · 25/10/2018 15:46

I started doing my own - problem is I can’t remember everything I’ve ever had (I had lots of store cards and different credit cards in my youth).

I’m far too lazy to organise it all - 10% seems fair though.

AFrayedOfHell · 25/10/2018 15:46

And Capital One are v fast. DH used their online checker, got an email back practically straight away that there had been PPI on his account. Used resolver to make the PPI complain. A letter a week later confirmed what they would pay and a cheque followed 3 days after.

AFrayedOfHell · 25/10/2018 15:49

But the PPI companies will still ask you for the information. A lot of banks etc have online PPI checkers.

Catspyjamazzzz · 25/10/2018 16:06

I should point out I’ve actually started doing this 3 times before.
I’m bad at admin

Don’t use one, do it yourself. Just wrote down all the credit cards/loans you’ve had and who you think provided them, then contact the banks and ask for them to provide the info, once you’ve got that make a claim.

gussiefox · 25/10/2018 16:40

Do it via the MSE site mentioned above. Half an hour of your time and costs you nothing. I didn't have any of my account details, just the name of the credit card company. Got prompt, written acknowledgement from all three companies - and a nice fat cheque from one already. MSE also send you an email reminder when response deadlines have expired and then you can escalate the complaint. I didn't have to do this though.

CantWaitToRetire · 25/10/2018 17:01

As PPs have said, use the MSE tool. There are template letters on there and you just fill in your details. I wrote to several companies and got pay outs from all of them using the template letter. It's so easy to do so please don't consider using a PPI company because all they'll do is enter a few details into a template and charge a huge share of any payout for doing it.

CantWaitToRetire · 25/10/2018 17:02

@catspyjamazzzz, make it 4th time lucky. It'll be the best hour of your time you've spent. Do it tonight!

sonandhelpneeded · 25/10/2018 17:08

Place markin!

Catspyjamazzzz · 25/10/2018 17:15

I’m not sure who I had credit cards with though - some are from decades ago. I’ve changed A LOT

Clickncollect · 25/10/2018 17:18

As others have said, please please do it yourself. I got a company to do mine for me as I had about 20 companies to write to and I simply couldn’t be bothered. It was really time consuming even with a ppi company acting on our behalf because they still need to collect all the information from you. Plus lots of the banks refused to look into my claims because I didn’t have account numbers and the ppi company were saying I had to contact the banks to get the account numbers myself as they couldn’t disclose to them. And the ppi company kept chasing me to ask where I was and I could never get them off the phone as they kept trying to make me refer friends and do silly Facebook posts promoting their business.
As it turned out, I only got a refund from one company of about £50 after fees as I was fairly certain I hadn’t take ppi out anyway so at least I got that clarified.
Make a list of steps:

  1. write a list of every finance company you’ve ever dealt with
  2. look up addresses for each one
  3. see if you have any account numbers for them and make a bit of any address changes for yourself
  4. use Martin Lewis template
  5. post the lot!

Seriously, it is just as much hassle going through a company and you keep all proceeds yourself!

Badgersmummy25 · 25/10/2018 18:01

I went direct to my bank (Halifax) and said I knew I had got a loan with them and they had made me take out PPI and I wished to make a claim. I did this online with them. They then wrote back asking for dates etc - of which I could remember none - so I then left it thinking it would be too much hard work. They then emailed me saying they were still waiting for details - which I also ignored. Then two weeks later I got a letter saying they had investigated and were now sending me £2000 to cover my lost money and interest - result :) So if Halifax is one of your banks, don't let not having any information put you off.

Sexnotgender · 25/10/2018 18:25

Same for me badgersmummy25, gave Halifax virtually no information. They sent me a massive form to fill in which I put in a drawer and meant to fill in.

Before I got round to filling it in they told me they'd investigated and were sending me a cheque for £2,500.

Hadjab · 25/10/2018 19:06

Please, please, please do this yourself. Why on earth would you want to give away up to 25% of your money for what amounts to around 30mins of leg work? Use the MSE tools, or just directly call the banks you think you may have had PPI with, pretty much all of them have a dedicated phone line.

Malibucyprus · 25/10/2018 19:14

Use Resolver, it’s so easy to use and no one takes a fee. I got bored at work a few months ago and after scouring MSE I found Resolver and thought “in for a penny n all that” didn’t even have account numbers, just rough dates, and amounts. 4 weeks later I received £7,500!!

Shoobydooby09 · 25/10/2018 19:23

Don't use a company you literally need a day (probably because you state you have so many) to sort it all out. Look at your credit file that will give you all your creditors. Use the MSE website I'm sure they'll have some formatted letters for you to insert your details into. Also you'll have to give the company the details so you might as well keep all the money if you're owed anything.

Cherries101 · 25/10/2018 19:29

Get a credit report from experian and raise a Resolver case for every credit card company you see. Experien tends to keep a lot of data, you might catch everything in the last 10-15 years even closed ones.

Cherries101 · 25/10/2018 19:29

It’s not just credit cards. Loans and mortgages had ppi too

chickenloverwoman · 25/10/2018 19:33

I used MSE tool, a few companies got me nothing but a few got me £500 in total. I also got the commission plus interest from my mortgage provider because they hadn't disclosed it was a commission based payment to the broker . I wasn't sold PPI on the mortgage , even! I still got £450 but that one I contacted the building v society directly.
Whole lot, PPI and mortgage provider took about 2 hours of my time in total online and looking through old files for numbers etc. I didn't have some, just knew I had had a cc with a certain bank.
. Well worth doing.
