To ask for a recommendation for a PPI company

I was full of good intentions that I was going to sort this out myself and contact companies blah blah

But I’m not. I know DH will be due a payout too.

However I don’t want a company to take a massive cut - is there anywhere where they take a reasonable percentage for the work.

Thanks.

Use Resolver. I've done about 4 now for my Dad and he's had 100% of the payout. Their forms are easy to fill in and you can keep track of your claims very very easily.

I don’t have any paperwork for old cards/accounts and I’m not even sure who I have had cards with.
I used to use store cards all the time and not entirely sure who with.

The thing is, the ppi company don’t know anything you don’t know so they will basically just send a letter on your behalf and then when the bank says they need account number, the ppi company will just refer the query back to you, get you to investigate and then take a cut if you do have a successful claim.

Oh this is my problem too.
I've no idea now which cards I had, dates or anything.
I can't do it myself as I don't have the information, so 75% of something is better than nothing.

A company that only takes 10% sounds a bit too good to be true. Most take 25-40%

Are you sure that's all they take? Who gets the interest? This can be very substantial as it's 8% pa and you are talking about 'decades'. The interest on £500 compounded over 20 years is about £2000.

I'd really recommend using the resolver tool, as it's likely that you have to give the same information whichever route you take, so it's money for nothing for them really. Unless the company take the basic info from you and send it to dozens of companies in case they get a hit, which sounds unlikely for a 10% fee, they really aren't doing anything that you can't do yourself and they aren't really saving you much in time or effort.

The PPI companies won't get any further than you with little/no information. You could contact your bank to find out about getting copies of old statements - not sure how far back they will keep them and there may be a charge. I can get the last 7 years online with my bank (NatWest).

I think generally speaking, if you don't still have an active account, the chances of successful recovery are greater if the product with PPI ended within the last 6 years, so I'd concentrate efforts there.

Definitely just get an experian report and it will list loads of your information. Mine included store cards I couldn't remember having from years ago.
Then just write to them with the info you have from Experian saying:

Dear PPI complaints dept of X company,

I had a card/ loan/whatever with you around this date. I do not have the full credit card number but at the time I was living at this address: xxx [provide card no or part of card no if you have it - Experian sometimes has some of the number].
I am concerned I may have been paying for PPI on it. I cannot remember a conversation where I was presented with an informed choice to take out PPI so I believe that, if I had PPI on this product, I have been missold it. Please check your records and investigate this for me.
Yours sincerely catspyjamazzz.

That is literally all I did, for the companies listed on Experian. I have had over £5000 back.
