In a Haven holiday... hell

Urgh. I am currently in a Haven Park about a hour away from home with my two boys and never thought I would actually crave to go home!

We stayed at this park in the summer and enjoyed it so much I decided to bring us back for the October half term. This time I booked a ‘ luxury lodge’ and it’s cost just under £800 😫.

For this price I was expecting something extra nice. However it’s basically just a jumbo sized caravan with the same furniture and fixtures that the previous ‘ deluxe’ caravan had. The only difference is 2 showers instead of one, a larger dining table and a larger outside area. Okay fair enough it didn’t live up to the expectation I thought on checking in but it gets worse...

When we arrived at the check in time they advertise I drove round to find repairs still
Being carried out to the ‘ lodge’. Okay not great as with two kids and just me I didn’t feel comfortable to start unloading everything in so they delayed us.

Upon placing things in their rooms and kitchen and so on I notice the cookware is thick in the previous people’s food and greasy. Then I see there’s a pubic hair in one of the showers. Then o walk into the bedroom to see BLOOD smeared on the wall by one of the beds... I called reception and explained. A cleaner turns up and removes the blood, and exchanges the manky cookware for clean ones.

Then the accomadation ‘ manager ‘ comes in all smiley and very dismissive saying to me well we aren’t responsible for the previous people staying and my cleaner said it was a bogey. I told him I had taken photos and it wasn’t a bogey. I explained this is supposed to be ‘ luxury’ and it’s not. He apologised but said ‘ well we got it sorted for you very quickly ‘ with a cheesy grin and a couldn’t give a toss attitude... I said you wouldn’t expect these standards and how could a cleaner miss it !?? That it made me feel sick and for the price I paid .. it was a let down.

When he left I emailed head office and sent them some photos. I said in the email I hoped to find nothing else but going to bed last night I went to pull back my duvet to feel something crusty and old ( looked like food ) on the corner of the duvet...

Also when I moved one of the smaller beds to Male way for my son’s travel cot again noticed stains on the sheets. If I don’t sleep like this at home why on earth have I paid £800 just under for this experience...

I’m
Gutted ... they don’t care with the well we fixed it attitude.. I’m planning to go home early. What I didn’t know and what he never told me is that Haven do have a gurantee that if your not happy with your standard of place you can go home the same day and recurve a refund. Well I didn’t know that and we have stayed now..

Some things I have found after the Intital email to head office. Shall I email again with the other things ? I just feel dirty in here and I expected way better. No where that I have ever stayed in had had someone’s blood there for us to walk into too..

😖😖😖😖🙂

Haven are dreadful at sorting issues. We went to Church Farm near Bognor a few years back and had to leave early. The man in the caravan next to us spent all Saturday drinking lager outside his caravan and screaming abuse down his mobile at someone who he was going to f**king kill (apparently). Three times he got in his car, pissed out of his head and staggering, and drove off across the park, returning each time within a few minutes. We think he went to the on site shop. Private site so not a police issue. We repeatedly complained to reception who couldn't give a damn that this man was driving across a busy holiday site whilst seriously drunk. Apparently he was an owner of his caravan which seemed to be the root of their refusal to do anything! He was extremely frightening and aggressive and our kids were scared. We left. Repeated complaints to management ALL ignored. Says a lot really.

student26 · 23/10/2018 22:18

We went to Craig Tara years ago and it was a filthy hole. Small caravan, even though we had upgraded. I mean, there was literally NO way you could tell it from the others. Absolutely freezing as very thin duvets and no proper heating, no fire alarm either!! No water for the first day. The swimming pool was half shut and the changing rooms were beyond filthy. A pooey nappy was left thrown in a corner of a cubicle and the lockers were vandalised and broken. Half the arcade machines were broken and the laundrette was covered in bird poo! Absolutely disgusting. The staff just did not care in the slightest.

Scifi101 · 23/10/2018 22:18

In my experience you will have a tough time getting a refund of any level from Haven!

givemesteel · 23/10/2018 22:34

Urgh that is disgusting. Not stayed in a haven since I was a kid. I will never ever consider it now. £800 is not even a cheap holiday, I would be expecting to not even oat half that to stay in a caravan.

Hezz · 23/10/2018 22:51

Which site is it?

Mandybrighton · 23/10/2018 22:52

It’s the same one as a poster above church farm haven near bognor.. I’m going home tomorrow. I’m not even bothering to explain why to reception. I’ll jjst make sure I have photographed everything.

Oh lord, I keep considering these, especially Devon Cliffs and then I read stories like this. Shudder.

April2020mom · 23/10/2018 23:10

Definitely worth complaining. Email the owner to tell them. Or try contacting the reception to see if the manager is available. Other options include threatening to tell the media about this or posting a bad review of it on trip advisor. This is not appropriate.

StoneofDestiny · 23/10/2018 23:15

Never been in one - never will after reading this. Total boak 🤮🤮🤮

Mummymummums · 23/10/2018 23:19

Good luck Mandybrighton - can't believe it's the same one I had the scary experience at! I never got anywhere with them. Yet I constantly see Church Farm recommended by people who say it's fab. Perhaps it is if you're not one of the unfortunate ones who experience squalid accommodation or highly aggressive drunks driving round the park!

Mandybrighton · 23/10/2018 23:19

I’ve emailed head office. I have also contacted them on Facebook and Twitter. I can’t wait to leave tomorrow

Spanglylycra · 23/10/2018 23:20

I'd maybe email the local environmental health team too!!

Poloshot · 23/10/2018 23:26

If it's only an hour away just go now and avoid the traffic. Sounds like a right shit hole

Mandybrighton · 23/10/2018 23:27

I have two boys with me 11 and 2 Are sound alsleep. I’m not even laying on their sheets instead I’m on a couple of duvets on top. And I’m itching ... which is prob just paranoia! It’s been horrible but didn’t want to let my boys down so I’ve tries to stay as long as I could

mmmgoats · 23/10/2018 23:28

Yes yes to your local paper. Threaten to contact the nationals too - not being properly cleaned is a serious health issue, regardless of all the other complaints.

Absolutely disgusting. I can not believe the manager used the fact that it was a bogey as his argument?!

Do log it before you go though OP otherwise they will turn around and say they had no idea when/why you left when you try to take it further. Ask for the name of the receptionist that you tell as well.

mmmgoats · 23/10/2018 23:29

Also get the name and title of that manager you spoke to.

Mandybrighton · 23/10/2018 23:29

I went on trip advisor as yes they have a lot of positive reviews but I found some where people were mentioning dirty bedding / period blood on the quilts 🤮🤮🤮 that’s not okay in any standard but when you have paid the most for what they say ‘ is the best ‘ well it’s a kick in the stomach.

We went to Ayr years ago. It was grim
DS was going through a phase of being poorly every time we went away and he was admitted to hospital
The hospital was lovely and like luxury compared to the Haven so me and DS slept well while the rest of them roughed it

tillytrotter1 · 23/10/2018 23:37

We went to Ayr years ago. It was grim

Grim is a kind word for Ayr, Butlins! Our two had begged to go to Butlins instead of the US so we booked a long weekend, it cured them forever, they were grateful for the US after that experience.

Isit7yet · 23/10/2018 23:41

At the start of the month we visited the Craig Tara park at Ayr. Grim is an understatement. Had planned to visit because of the newly refurbished pool. The changing rooms were beyond disgusting, dirty nappies and sanitary products all over the floor. This was on a Monday not in the school holidays! I complained to the reception who just explained the filth was due to demand. I wish I had taken pictures because it was hard to believe.

YouOKHun · 23/10/2018 23:42

Yep, agree with others; Twitter is your friend for this, with plenty of relevant hashtags. How disgusting and ... £800 Shock

FishesThatFly · 23/10/2018 23:47

I have been to Devon Cliffs but did a private hire. It was spotless. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and was cheaper then going through Havenaven

nicenewdusters · 23/10/2018 23:48

Spanglylycra| Don't go to Devon Cliffs. Just don't.

FishesThatFly · 23/10/2018 23:48

Meant to say Haven but MN constantly glitching

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 24/10/2018 00:04

We've had several great holidays with Haven but were let down once with the caravan. Haven sorted it out very quickly and were very apologetic.

The caravan was filthy, the pots and pans had been put away dirty, dog hair and broken glass on the floor and disgusting bathroom. It had obviously been missed on the cleaning rota. The cleaning crew came and did an excellent job and we were given free activities for the inconvenience.
