To wish ikea had “express” stores

MrsA2015 · 19/10/2018 09:41

That’s all really! And it would stock a good few of the most popular items and Children’s bits so mums haven’t got to traipse all the way to the big store.

And of course it’ll need to have a food court!

What stores do you wish had an express version?

Correction: mums, dads, carers and guardians!

Agreed, a shop with just the "marketplace" stuff would be great. I needed to get some coathangers recently but couldn't be bothered with going up 3 escalators, all around all the furniture, down 2 escalators, through the marketplace, down a flight of stairs and through the tills.

Gilead · 19/10/2018 10:02

They have one in Norwich!

SaucyJack · 19/10/2018 10:03

You can get the cups and plates and shit on Amazon.

LanceStatersGold · 19/10/2018 10:03

Does the one in Norwich actually have stock? I thought it was just a collection depot? If it has a market I know what I’m doing this weekend!

greensnail · 19/10/2018 10:10

I quite often go and just do the market place. In my local one you can get to the start of the market place quite easily from the front door.
If i am buying furniture and know exactly what i need then i just find the aisle numbers on the ikea app and just go the wrong way through the tills to get straight to the warehouse bit where you collect the boxes.

DolceFarNiente · 19/10/2018 10:16

They have these in Spain! Not helpful, I know, but you never know when they might start popping up in the UK.

They have a few in the city centre, about the same size as a 2-floor clothes shop with the most popular items and a small cafe. I think every few months it changes from bedroom to kitchen to living room, etc. They call it a "pop-up" shop even though it's permanent.

MrsA2015 · 19/10/2018 10:18

Shock I’m moving to Norwich then . What does it stock?!

I live near an IKEA and you get to know the shortcuts through the store when you go regularly (straight to the restaurant etc).

Nospellingsnomore · 19/10/2018 10:21

If you only want a couple if items, ask the staff where the cut throughs and staff doors/staircases are...most staff will oblige. That is how they get through the store in a timely fashion.

RedDrink · 19/10/2018 10:21

I wish Aldi had an express lane, not for us, but for the poor buggers with just a few items that get stuck behind us and our monthly giant shop.

DanglyBangly · 19/10/2018 10:27

I don’t think you can buy anything in the Norwich one, it’s more or less just a collection point for online orders with a bit of a furniture showroom.

BunsOfAnarchy · 19/10/2018 10:30

I wish everything had an express version.
Im with @RedDrink on the Aldi shout. I only ever go in for nappies.
I wish stores had period lane. Pick up black granny undies, chocolate and a minature wine or a BOGOF on the Pink G&T cans, all available on the shelf next to the checkout. Wearing pajamas and clutching a teddy hit water bottle would be the norm...

magpie24 · 19/10/2018 10:30

They have one of these in Stratford (East London) too! Although it's not quite what you suggest it has the most popular items in-store and then you can request delivery of anything to the store itself

Mmmmdanone · 19/10/2018 10:31

In my local one you can just go straight to the marketplace without going upstairs. I thought they'd all be like that.

PickleNeedsAFriendInReading · 19/10/2018 10:32

Didn't they just open on on Tottenham Court Road somewhere? I'm sure I read about it in the paper.

StaySafe · 19/10/2018 10:34

I sort of wish there were rather less of them. I've stayed in holiday lets all over europe from a remote village in Iceland to Southern Portugal and the crockery and cutlery is always IKEA, as is a lot of the furniture.

MadisonAvenue · 19/10/2018 10:35

There was one until recently in Birmingham city centre where you could order items and collect later, they had a small cafe and some Market Place bits. I went in once and wasn't very impressed with the very limited range sold, I think it closed after only being open for a couple of years.
We're close to a large Ikea anyway and it's easy to find your way around and you can miss out the store and head straight for the Market Place (or restaurant).

OpenThatTrapDoor · 19/10/2018 10:36

You can buy some stuff in the Norwich one, but not loads. Smaller bits like glasses, some toys, candles etc.

80sMum · 19/10/2018 10:37

You can get a lot of Ikea products online. No need to trek miles to the shop, unless you want to see the products before you buy.

longwayoff · 19/10/2018 10:38

Ikea online and small locals. M&S food online. Be happy for ever with these.

littleducks · 19/10/2018 10:43

I only ever do restaurant and market place. Register for creche time, restaurant while waiting for creche slot to come up then market place while little one in creche.

You don't have to follow the whole set up

n0ne · 19/10/2018 10:49

Reaa · 19/10/2018 10:55

I wish IKEA did free home delivery

MrsA2015 · 19/10/2018 11:43

Noo I can’t stand online shopping, I like to have a browse just not after an hour or so in the car with a whinging 3 year old.

I’d also like to avoid the mass exodus down to Purley from September onwards because everyone’s doing Xmas shopping.
