I'm looking for new books to read and I'm trying to find something similar to those I've read over the years that have stuck with me. I'll start:

Of mice and men, the rats of nimh, persuasion, pride and prejudice, nicholas nickleby, oliver twist, little house on the prairie, the help, 12 years a slave, the color purple, the red pony, sunset song, memoirs of a geisha, little women, all the harry potter books, the prime of miss jean brodie,

I'm sure I'll remember more

Please recommend a book that will stick with me! Nothing scary though, I don't like scary. Also I hated Wuthering Heights so that stuck with me for the wrong reasons!

Recently I really enjoyed My Absolute Darling by Gabriel Tallent

Uncooperativefingers · 17/10/2018 21:57

Oh and also maybe The Crimson Petal and the White. A bit different to my other suggestions, but for a large book the writing was immersive and full of fantastic descriptions, I read it really quickly

helenadove I read Children of the Dust as a teen, then downloaded it to my kindle a few years ago. I have re-read it about five times since. The first part is so, so good.

For me, which I think have all been mentioned.

The Handmaid’s Tale
Notes on a Scandal

Also The Bullet Trick by Louise Welsh, and The Unit by Ninni Holmquist.

They were all books I read as a child and enjoyed.

If you love Austen and Harry Potter then I recommend Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (if you haven’t already read it). Probably my favourite book. Most of my other favourites have already been mentioned.

Ps - I also hated Wuthering Heights!
