I'm looking for new books to read and I'm trying to find something similar to those I've read over the years that have stuck with me. I'll start:

Of mice and men, the rats of nimh, persuasion, pride and prejudice, nicholas nickleby, oliver twist, little house on the prairie, the help, 12 years a slave, the color purple, the red pony, sunset song, memoirs of a geisha, little women, all the harry potter books, the prime of miss jean brodie,

I'm sure I'll remember more

Please recommend a book that will stick with me! Nothing scary though, I don't like scary. Also I hated Wuthering Heights so that stuck with me for the wrong reasons!

I love you lot, so many favourites mentioned on here.
OP I found Wuthering Heights really irritating and let that put me off more Brontes for years. I was wrong. Jane Eyre is now up there with P&P and Persuasion, although I haven't reread it the way I have those. Definitely a landmark book. So pleased A God In Ruins is coming up so often, I'm about a quarter through it.

I forgot this one; it really has stayed with me as it is quite haunting. If you like a thriller with an edge, go for it.

The Three - Sarah Lotz.

The Choice - Edith Eger. Such a moving and powerful book. Really changed me and helped me come to terms with losing my Dad.

@EssentialHummus

Stoner is a beautiful book, can't explain why. I remember staying up on night when my exboyfriend was working on his thesis, and read it snug under the covers with a dim light on coming from ex's desk in front of me.

Such happy memories, makes me nostalgic

The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton, probably the first book I read right through, it was such a page turner.
I didn't get read to as a child so apart from school reading books this would have been the first for me.

Greenteandchives · 20/10/2018 08:41

Sarah’s Key, by Tatiana de Rosnay. In a way I wish I hadn’t read it, it is so upsetting.
But I’ll never forget it.
