AIBU- being on the phone when being served is just rude?

I’ve just been to pick up a parcel from the post office. The woman in front of me was on her phone, as in having a conversation, not just texting. She didn’t even acknowledge the man behind the counter, gave him the card, carried on talking, showed her ID, took the parcel and left, without pausing her conversation or saying thank you.

AIBU to think pretty much any phone call can wait a few minutes whilst you’re being served, whether that be at a post office, supermarket, coffee shop or whatever? If you must be talking on your phone, at least pause the conversation and acknowledge the person serving you? It’s just so, so rude not to.

I don't think it's rude if it's an important call. They're coming to the shop to buy something, not to make friends

Couple of weeks ago the woman on the checkout at the petrol station was on the phone.. really rude and incredibly irritating! I couldn't work out of she was talking to me or not!

I think it's incredibly rude.

Quite a big queue at supermarket till, a guy in front of me was on the phone, typical scenario in that they then need assistance as something didn't scan or didnt weigh right and so staff member came over to help. Guy didn't get off phone, then proceeded to ignore staff member who kept asking him a question and then because of a lack of response she then started asking if he still wanted his stuff, all the while he's still yacking away on the phone, until eventually the supermarket person got annoyed with him and started loading his shopping back in the basket to take away as people in queue tutting etc. That finally got his attention.

So rude though!

Yes, I think it’s rude- although my local Aldi staff chat to each other through their headsets which is equally rude.

However, it is now endemic I fear. We held parent consultations this week, each evening lasting several hours. Every single teacher had to pause at least one consultation while parents answered a text, took a call or removed earbuds midway through the chat. None of those resulted in parents needing to run off due to babysitter emergencies or similar. Apparently even a chat with the teacher about a child’s progress is less important than the phone now.

The parents in earbuds, I suspect we could have said anything at all for all the attention we were given.

Incredibly rude and dismissive of retail staff.
