AIBU to consider cancelling Novasure Ablation tomorrow because I'm TERRIFIED

I made the mistake of googling Novasure Ablation, and found a thread where women have shared their experiences of having uterine perforations, sepsis, near-death infections, cervixes that close up with scar tissue, but still bleed so they're filling up with blood every month, agonising pain....

I've suffered from heavy periods for the past 2 years, lasting about 10-12 days per month. I've seen two gyneas; one recommended a hysteroscopy but I chickened out. The second one recommended Novasure and I said yes.

Now it's the night before and I'm seriously BRICKING it. It's under general -- is that risky? I have two kids.

My periods are horrible but I'm 47 so I might not have much longer to suffer them...? I have several small fibroids. Is there a way to treat those and reduce the bleeding rather than shoving a microwave up my womb?

My gynae said I could have the procedure now, or wait a few months. But I said now.

I don't know what to do. Part of me worries this might cause more, and worse, issues than it solves?

HELP.

Overnight there was bleeding but not enough to overflow a maternity pad. Paracetamol really helped the cramps last night, and today I feel a bit tender and battered, but really not bad at all.

I had a moment of clarity last night as I was bleeding and miserable: I had this op because I've spent so much time bleeding and miserable! I hate the heavy periods, I hate the Freddy Kruger bathroom breaks, and the tiredness, anaemia...

Hopefully this op and the Mirena will knock that all on the head for the next few years or till I get past the menopause.

Thanks for everyone who told me not to cancel. It'd really not that bad, and that comes from me, Queen of the Wimps.

@stellabird

I'm right with you on the hysterectomy! But it's not an option until they've tried other (cheaper) things first.

Thanks WhatsgoingonEh.

I'm having a novasure ablation and fibroid resection next month, am a bit nervous about it but reading this thread has put my mind at rest.

First time general for me but a good friend of mine has been a consultant anaesthetist for over 20 years so i'll be asking him lots of questions.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 23/10/2018 16:32

@Auldspinster I'm really glad you've been reassured. 😊 It's been almost a week and still going fine. I get the odd sensation like a very very faint period cramp sometimes, but honestly nothing major. And I'm on 24/7 symptom watch. 🤣 Plus, that might be the Mirena, and nothing to do with the ablation at all.

My calendar says I'd be on my period now, so it's crazy that I'm just having incredibly mild, occasional spotting of very, very pale pink water. My bathroom would normally look like The House That Bled To Death about now.

I should probably have a rummage up my nethers to check the Mirena strings are there, but I haven't.

If I - officially the Most Hypochondriac Woman in Britain - can cope with this, you will be fine! More than fine, you'll be running marathons by Christmas.

NEVER Google medical stuff Flowers

Auldspinster · 23/10/2018 17:18

@WhatsGoingOnEh I'm glad things are still OK. I've had a mirena since 2004 and it's been brilliant, my fibroid has displaced it and my crazy periods returned.

I'm 43 now and hope this will take me through to the menopause.

Just caught this thread. I am 10 month in and it was the best decision I ever made.

Auldspinster · 13/11/2018 08:43

It's tomorrow for me, wee bit nervous.

nordstrom · 15/11/2018 14:03

@Auldspinster how did it go?

Well, 4 weeks on, I seem to be having a similarly heavy period!

DorisDances · 15/11/2018 16:11

Had one a few years back and the best thing ever! I hope yours goes as well as mine did

Auldspinster · 16/11/2018 11:42

I didn't have the novasure in the end as my fibroid was too large so they just removed the fibroid in the end. Feeling fine so far - no pain and minimal bleeding.
