To call the out of hours with suspected endometriosis pain?

Jellyjumpers · 16/10/2018 19:53

I am unsure if I need medical input or can wait. I had endometriosis removed from my bowel at the end of last year and a coil fitted. For the last few months I have had sciatica and pain in the left hand side of my stomach. Gp thinks this is ibs but I am not convinced

I am bleeding today and have worked from home because I wanted to be able to access a hot water bottle. I have taken the antispasmodics the gp suggested but an still in a lot of pain. I do not know if I should call the ooh as felt ferry verry faint when I went to the toilet or if I should manage at home and look for a routine gp appointment.

Does the mirena control hormones? As with one fitted I am still getting this pain.

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 16/10/2018 22:34

I have just been sick again. I have a heat pad which is helping but I am shaking with pain. I really need it to be time to take something for this.

FaithInfinity · 16/10/2018 22:44

Mirena gives off progesterone, copper coil is hormone free.

If you’re that ill, you need to call 111 about OOH service. Otherwise you’re going to end up getting dehydrated as well.Make sure they know just how severe that pain is. If they ask what it is out of 10, be honest! Don’t downplay it. Be prepared that they might admit you though. Is there someone who can take you to OOH?

Shednik · 16/10/2018 23:06

Do your friends who have young children have partners? I'm sure a friend would come to you if there's someone to stay with their children?

Jellyjumpers · 16/10/2018 23:11

I have taken some cocodamol now and hope this takes affect soon.

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 16/10/2018 23:14

I could Probably get a friend round and if they could pick me up, as I don't feel comfortable driving I would be fine to stay at their house. However, unless I really need this I would prefer not to trouble than particularly as it is latex

I am feeling apprehensive about possibly admission to hospital as it would be the third time this year. While iv paracetamol is brilliant not getting a diagnosis again concerns me. I also don't think I can get away with more time off work as without a dr confirming endo it is treated as different incidents.t

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 16/10/2018 23:42

How long would you leave the cocodamol to take affect

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 17/10/2018 00:54

I have called the ooh as think I may have fainted with the pain. I am not sure if I did actually faint or if I lay myself down.

I am now waiting for a call back and anxious that I will be admitted. Anyone awake who can make me see sense. I know that this is not normal and whether in the short or long term I need some sort of medical input to help me cope.

OP posts:
Shednik · 17/10/2018 01:06

I think you need admitting. This absolutely isn't normal and you don't sound safe to be alone.
Well done for calling ooh. Please don't play it down.

Shednik · 17/10/2018 01:07

You definitely need medical input to manage this. I hope seeking medical care tonight will mean you get a proper referral.

Hogtini · 17/10/2018 01:14

Hope you get some help soon. You're doing the right thing, no medals for not ringing for help so get yourself sorted - whatever it takes. Take it easy.

emmadrake · 17/10/2018 01:33

Are you on your own? Had stage IV endo and know what the 10/10 pain is like if a cyst twists or similar. It's terrifying. Hope OOH is back in touch and can advise re pain relief. I knew mine would pass eventually and preferred to stay home in warm than go into hosp but it's scary when your alone so keep posting or wake someone up if poss.

After tonight, you have to push for a full investigation. I ignored pain for too long thinking (encouraged by GP) 'it's only the odd cyst'. By time pushed for referral all my organs were stuck together. Had ovary and cyst removal which was pointless as endo straight back so had to go for hysterectomy 6 months later.

You mention you have private healthcare, so don't let your GP stop you seeing a consultant. Mine tried to do so and she was utterly wrong. Eventually I asked her to write a referral letter regardless of her view and she huffily agreed - my surgeon said I'd done the right thing. And you can contact surgeons directly one you've been referred including for follow up.

You can push for an MRI which will show much more than a scan and obv less invasive than a lap.

Won't go on any more now as you're in the middle of a 'mare but I learned the hard way about the importance of not accepting pain and lack of diagnosis and keep pushing for answers and a proactive action plan so hope to help others avoid same. You have to advocate for yourself - you're not being pushy, a wuss etc - you're someone who deserves a pain free life.

All the very best for tonight - remember you'll come through the other side but I know how difficult it is to believe that when you're in the middle of it.

DMarewankers · 17/10/2018 02:15

Hope ooh have been back in touch, you really do need to be admitted now. If you did faint and it happens again, you could seriously hurt yourself.

Why was follow up difficult? Did you go through your GP or the consultants secretary?

I had a course of zoladex a few years ago and had the mirina coil fitted in January. I didn’t feel it was helping with the pain and also it caused constant heavy bleeding so it was removed a few months later. I generally tend to avoid hormonel treatment as I struggle with the side effects.

The best advice I can give you is to change your GP. Also try calling your consultants secretary and see if they can advise further.

These are some support groups in London.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Jellyjumpers · 17/10/2018 06:23

Thanks all I have not had a call back from the ooh. However, I vanished to fall asleep so did not chase.

I feel quite a bit better today and feel well enough to attempt work.

I will call my gp today and hope to be able to get an emergency appointment. I have spoken to my consultants secretrry who has said I will need a gp referral.

I am not sure how valuable an mri would be. I previously had an mri but this did not show any of the problems accept the cyst before the lap..

FaithInfinity · 17/10/2018 07:06

I’m glad you got some sleep. When you see your GP, as for something for ‘breakthrough pain’ when the co-codamol isn’t enough. I’d push for a Gynae referral, if it is endo an MRI would be pointless. You need a laparoscopy to see what’s going on.

Jellyjumpers · 17/10/2018 08:43

Thanks by the time I got through their true no appointments for today and I was told to call back tomorrow it call 111 if urgent.

I actually also herd some painkillers as the others were from the hospital.

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 17/10/2018 10:00

I wish I had not come to work today. I am in pain and tired and don't know if I will need to go home or to the walk-in. I don't feel able to take stronger painkillers when working, particularly as I can't write sensible messages, due to tiredness.
Oo

OP posts:
FaithInfinity · 17/10/2018 15:20

I know that conundrum, I ended up off on long term sick because if I was analgesed I wasn’t functional enough to work. I hope you can get home and rest soon.

Jellyjumpers · 17/10/2018 15:54

Who am i best to contact for painkillers? I only have 2 cocodomol left which had been prescribed by a&e a couple of months ago.

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 17/10/2018 15:59

FaithInfinity Its a difficult balance as both pain and painkillers make it difficult to work. I have given up now.

OP posts:
Greyponcho · 17/10/2018 20:35

How are you this evening @JellyJumpers?

Jellyjumpers · 17/10/2018 21:14

GreyponchoThanks for asking. I had a rest after work and felt well enough to sleep but have woken up in pain but am resting with a heatpad. Not sure how best to get help with this though as can't get a routine gp appointnent for a couple of weeks, was not in the right place in the queue to get one this morning and only have a couple of cocodamol. I am not sure why I can't think of a plan myself.

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 17/10/2018 22:34

The pain is now increasing and I don't know whether to use my last couple of cocodamol or if I will regret it if I can't see a gp tomorrow. Why pain always get worse at night?

OP posts:
FaithInfinity · 17/10/2018 22:42

Mine always was worse at night. I googled it. Pain getting worse at night is a thing.

I’d take the co-codamol, you’re in pain, you need it. I’d suggest taking tomorrow off work and getting a GP appointment.
