Can anyone tell me what this bug is? I found it near my window and have killed it already but do I need to burn my house down in case it comes back ? I did have the window all day so i hope it came in from the window and hasn’t been living in my house !!

You killed it? Why?

IdahoCrow · 16/10/2018 17:13

Why did you need to kill it? It's harmless.

easyandy101 · 16/10/2018 17:13

Shield bug variant, aptly named a squashbug

Totally harmless

adoggymama · 16/10/2018 17:13

Looks like one of those shield bugs, totally harmless.. why did you kill it?

1000antsinmypants · 16/10/2018 17:13

I’d burn the house down.

Orangeyouglad · 16/10/2018 17:13

It was kill the bug or move house and since I can’t afford to buy another house the bug had to go

Some kind of roach beetle I think, probably flew in the window. Nothing to stress over unless you hear scratching noises at night (which could indicate the wood knawing kind)

Ledehe · 16/10/2018 17:15

Shield bug. Harmless. Not related to cockroaches and will not knew your wood. Definitely came from outside.

They are green in summer

Ledehe · 16/10/2018 17:15

Knaw not knew

Orangeyouglad · 16/10/2018 17:16

So I should not burn the house down and salt the earth then :) good to know

You can't brush a harmless bug outside? How do you function in the actual world?

Weedsnseeds1 · 16/10/2018 17:19

It's a beetle. Probably one of the ground beetle family, looking at the shape. I would have just put it outside, not killed it.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/10/2018 17:24

I met a fully armed tenant stalking one of those last week.

He was determined it would die, had full on fire resistant gloves on, a full length apron and a determined look.

I asked him to open a window, picked it up and threw it outside.

It's harmless, nothing to do with roaches and still, OP, I understand your fear - I am an arachnaphobe and feel the same about 8-legged fearsomes!

Tidypidy · 16/10/2018 17:25

Gnaw. Sorry to be a pedant but couldn't let that one go!

Coconutcreampie · 16/10/2018 17:29

How cruel. They are lovely harmless little things.

Orangeyouglad · 16/10/2018 17:29

If it had been a moth I would of burnt the house down or left and made someone go and kill it but I was feeling brave and killed the weird bug !!

I’ve never seen this bug ever before but I’m glad someone else would stalk it fully armed as well

That looks exactly like a Triatoma or a kissing bug!! Are you in the UK, I'm not sure if you can get them there, or I didn't know you could, but stink bugs have a much rounder body and their faces are rounder. I only say because we have a leaflet on our fridge and that looks very like them. If you are in the UK I would find out if you can get anyone out to check, just to be on the safe side.
If you are in the USA or anywhere else in the world, then look online for info about what to do.

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/10/2018 17:44

If it came back after you killing it, burning the house down would not help. It would survive that too.

Alarmed at your habit of killing harmless wildlife because you don't like them - if your phobia really drives you to this behaviour, perhaps you should seek treatment for it?

fifithefoof · 16/10/2018 17:51

Definitely isn't a stink bug. I know as I found one of the fuckers CRAWLING ON ME IN BED YESTERDAY.

LinoleumBlownapart · 16/10/2018 17:52

actually looks like it is one of these...

www.canr.msu.edu/news/western_conifer_seed_bug_or_brown_marmorated_stink_bug so thankfully not a kissing bug, although apparently they might be in the UK Shock, but probably very rare!

fifithefoof · 16/10/2018 17:53

It's definitely a western conifer seed bug.

fifithefoof · 16/10/2018 17:53

Ha. Cross post.

bibbitybobbitytired · 16/10/2018 17:56

It’s a harmless bug.
Pretty much like a May bug.
I’m crap with bugs and insects but even that one wouldn’t bother me.

RonniePickering · 16/10/2018 17:57

Agreed, no need to kill it.

Orangeyouglad · 16/10/2018 17:58

Wait so if I am in the uk and it’s one of the seed bug things am I burning down the house ? Is it the weather that has brought these weird bugs to my house ?
