Can anyone tell me what this bug is? I found it near my window and have killed it already but do I need to burn my house down in case it comes back ? I did have the window all day so i hope it came in from the window and hasn’t been living in my house !!

I had this in one of my kids bedrooms last week. I didn’t kill it. Trapped it in the glass and tried to get it on the outside window sill but it didn’t want to go so I ended up leaving the glass on the door step overnight. It was still in the glass in the morning.

It might only be a beetle but there’s no need to be so proud of killing it or over exaggerating the whole “burn the house down” crap.

Do you also run over hedgehogs on the road, or is it just bugs you hate? I ask because I have seen a lot of flat hedgehogs recently, in places where cars would have to deliberately move over in order to kill them.

IdahoCrow · 16/10/2018 18:02

Yeah just burn your own house down, OP

flowergirl68 · 16/10/2018 18:04

It's a vine weevil. May have come out of a pot plant, if you have any.

FinallyATea · 16/10/2018 18:05

Cockroach?

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 16/10/2018 18:13

I had to restrain one of kids mates from squashing a gorgeous iridescent beetle, we’d spotted on a fence and his immediate reaction was “Eeww. Kill it!”

The reason being that it was a....bug.
Even spiders get escorted off the premises here when they start getting a bit too bold. Not splattercated.

fifithefoof · 16/10/2018 18:38

Where I live we teach our kids that killing things you don't need to is pretty fucked up.

ElizabethMainwaring · 16/10/2018 18:45

Horrible and pathetic. 'It was near the window'. The horror! I'm struggling to express how angry this has made me. OP, do you not understand how the world works? It is full of creatures, food chains, pollination etc

fifithefoof · 16/10/2018 18:49

One of ds's friends has been very 'kill it' towards bugs his whole life. His parents are too.

They treat their dog like shit too.

They're now ex friends. I don't want my son picking up on that.

Itchytights · 16/10/2018 18:51

My pet hate is people killing creatures. Who gave you the right to do that?
I find it very ignorant and extremely unkind to kill things just because you happen to not like the look of them.
Ffs you should have woman'd up and captured it under a glass and then let it outside.

Zipadeedoodah2 · 16/10/2018 18:59

Why would you kill it? Cruel .

fifithefoof · 16/10/2018 19:00

I don't even kill spiders and I am absolutely, totally petrified of them.

--May partially be because I can't get within 20 feet of them.

When I lived alone I used to call friends to come over and get them out. Even knocked at my neighbours who I didn't know a few times.

No excuse for killing things. Except obviously for a rattle snake that's about to crawl in to your dc's cot or similar.

SlightAggrandising · 16/10/2018 19:06

You sound like a spoilt 4 year old OP. What a shit thing to do.

GinaCarbonara · 16/10/2018 19:18

I find the whole 'burn the house down/move house' spiel ridiculous.

No one would actually do that, it's a fucking bug, pick it up in a piece of paper and put it outside.
