Hospital wants to send me home after PPROM. I don’t want to go. Help.

Posting for traffic. My waters broke at home and were bright red, and I was 26 weeks with DCDA twins. I called an ambulance and was rushed to hospital where I had a huge gush of red fluid. I was counselled about preterm birth and given steroid injections. I saw a neonatal doctor who stated the most important thing was to deliver at a hospital with NICU cots.

Despite severe agonising pain, a week has passed and I haven’t given birth. Twins aren’t distressed and my observations are fine.

However I feel incredibly unwell. I keep burning hot and turning red but my temp is not raised. I feel like I have the flu or another illness. I have no energy and can barely move due to pain. Codeine won’t touch it. A midwife told me to have a hot bath which I am sure is contraindicated.

The staff want to send me home. I have stated I do not want to go home due to me living an hour from the hospital and the risk of infection, cord compression, preterm delivery and stillbirth. I do not want to lose my babies. I want to remain in the unit with NICU like the doctor advised.

Can anyone give me any advice? I can’t find any info on this anywhere and feel like the staff are fobbing me off.

I know that seems a bit concerning but you were having some contractions weren't you? It does affect their heart rate and he's still not in the danger zone.
Great to hear you're being monitored. Hope you enjoy time with your son and mum. X

CatsEye99 · 20/10/2018 13:54

Had another massive bleed and Dr came up. They want more bloods from me and are keeping an eye, said babies look okay for now but just to stay aware of any changes.

LoniceraJaponica · 20/10/2018 14:02

Oh no. I have everything crossed for you Flowers

CharlesChickens · 20/10/2018 14:02

All this blood loss cant be great for you either op. I hope things calm down and that your babies are fine inside for a while longer .

Littlebluebird123 · 20/10/2018 14:38

Oh how worrying for you. But glad you're still in the place that can help.
Hope all settles down for you.

CatsEye99 · 20/10/2018 14:38

Its not. They're guessing I lost 30mls which doesnt sound a lot but looks loads. I'm still bleeding too.

Littlebluebird123 · 20/10/2018 14:40

Have they discussed what your options are? Are they taking precautions for pre term labour ie steroids?

CatsEye99 · 20/10/2018 14:42

Already had steroids. Goal is to keep babies in as long as possible but if they get distressed or I get an infection they have to be delivered

OP posts:
Littlebluebird123 · 20/10/2018 14:45

Of course they want to keep them in as long as poss. Glad you have already had the steroids. :)
Do they know what's causing the fluid loss? Is it the amniotic fluid so you're in labour?

CatsEye99 · 20/10/2018 14:55

Its amniotic fluid combined with blood from a small placenta tear

OP posts:
CrabbityRabbit · 20/10/2018 15:14

The loss of blood and fluid must be taking a toll on you OP. Are you staying well hydrated to replace liquid? Are you in danger of becoming anemic?

CatsEye99 · 20/10/2018 15:21

I'm drinking lots but am already anaemic so am on iron.

OP posts:
CatsEye99 · 20/10/2018 23:29

Got my bloods back. Hemoglobin has dropped again. It went from 103 to 102 back to 105 last week but now its 100 despite me taking iron. Apparently this is due to the constant bleeding

Thehop · 20/10/2018 23:32

Am thinking of you and crossing everything x

babycatcher411 · 21/10/2018 02:50

@Cateyes do not worry about baby heart rate changing, this is completely normally. A HR shouldn’t be static, a static heart rate is way way more worrying than a changing one. From one beat to another a baby’s heart rate should change by 5-20bpm. But alone the change from one beat to another does not tell you anything about the baby, you need to be able to see all the other features as well and if they’re normal. So please don’t worry about that.

Also regarding Hb changing, a change by up to 5g/dl could be arguably a discrepancy from one test to another. Less than that is subjectively indifferent.

CatsEye99 · 21/10/2018 02:52

Fuck sake. Woke up with pain heavy bleeding and clots. Consultant told me these are warning signs.

Midwives annoyingly blase about it and doctors are stuck on delivery suite.

I was told by dr before if this happens this may require a crash section but everyone's fucked off so I'm lying here waiting for pain relief wondering wtf is happening

OP posts:
babycatcher411 · 21/10/2018 02:57

Sorry I didn’t mean for that to sound so dismissive about Hb.
How many times a day are you on iron? It’s not unusual for Hb to drop in pregnancy in general anyway, so maybe they’ve not put you on a high enough daily dose taking that into account also.

CatsEye99 · 21/10/2018 02:58

No you didn't sound dismissive don't worry. Just annoyed at the staff here.

Twice daily ferrous fumerate

OP posts:
Applesandpears23 · 21/10/2018 02:59

I hope the doctors come soon.

CatsEye99 · 21/10/2018 03:02

They're finally listening to the heartbeats in a minute. Only because I asked. I shouldn't have to be reminding them how to do their jobs. I've lost patience with all of this now.

OP posts:
ohfourfoxache · 21/10/2018 03:03

Oh for fucks sake Angry

Have they not read your notes?

CatsEye99 · 21/10/2018 03:08

They found both babies thankfully. Doctors not answering the bleeps. Why do they even have consultants if noone listens to their plan.

OP posts:
CatsEye99 · 21/10/2018 03:09

Got pain relief but still bleeding and in pain. Midwife says clots aren't true clots but just mucus. I'm unconvinced but who knows.

OP posts:
babycatcher411 · 21/10/2018 03:12

If you Hb is not improving, given your active bleeding, I would ask for ferrous sulphate/fumerate three times a day. The worst this may do is make your poo black and a little constipated.

ohfourfoxache · 21/10/2018 03:12

Is your mum still keeping a record of what happens and when?

You would be completely justified in complaining very, very loudly after everything you’ve been through
