Why’s there no Pumpkin Spice?

Hi,

I live in the UK and the only Pumpkin Spice thing I have found is the PSL from Starbucks and Greggs Bakery. My AIBU is why is it so big in America but not in UK? Gutted I love Pumpkin Spice Sad

How can I buy Pumpkin Spiced products and shipped to the UK.

Is there anything that we can get in the UK that people really want in America?

Thanks in Advance x

I think it’s Pumpkin Spice as it Spice to flavour pumpkin as opposed to Pumpkin and Spice iyswim?

Mines just skinny coffee syrup from TK Maxx (£3.99 for a HUGE bottle) in a latte. I sometimes sprinkle some cinnamon or ground mixed spice on top.

As far as I know there is no actual pumpkin in PSL although it can look a bit orange tinged.

The Quaker Oats do taste a bit pumpkiny but I think that’s from the seeds.

I’m a bit confused about pumpkin spice... pumpkins aren’t spiced?! Is it just a spice/mixture of spices added to pumpkin flavour? In which case can you make your own?

ShadyLady53 · 15/10/2018 12:01

@soydora - it’s exactly that. It’s similar to the sort of spices you’d use in simnel cake or something. You can make the spices yourself very easily and flavour anything.

Dunno, but I really bloody wish Starbucks had announced this on their notice boards this past weekend when DS2 decided he wanted one. It'd have saved me for queuing for 10 minutes in a place I normally avoid* like the plague.

*Instead all their outdoor boards and indoor price lists were boasting about the Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Laziness on top of their awful, awful "coffee" - I swear I'll never go near one again.

LoudJazzHands · 17/10/2018 02:34

@CabanaBayLife I bought both of these locally.

One is better than the other Wink

@loudjazzhands did you buy them in the UK or USA? I would definitely drink them and the PSL Starbucks one looks lovely.

In Canada. It's Pumpkin Spice everything here too.

I got a pumpkin spiced alcoholic drink from Aldi, a Bailey's type. Tastes nice enough.

Bekabeech · 17/10/2018 15:43

Umm you can make your own pumpkin spice - I have two lots from slightly different recipes last year (mix of cinnamon, mixed spice, etc.).

And you know that Libby's Pumpkin is often/usually mainly Butternut Squash - as there is no legal difference in the US between Pumpkin and Butternut Squash. Which is why people people often say Pumpkin pie made with the tinned stuff is far superior to the fresh stuff.

And if anyone has spare seeds they are about to through away could they post them to me I won't be baking them to make toasted seeds which is the best bit of the pumpkin in my opinion

Strawberrytraveller · 17/10/2018 16:07

isn't it just sold as mixed spice in the Uk? I mean thats what people add to things like gingerbread, and Christmassy baking etc

Ocado Mixed spice is just cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves - www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Bart-Fairtrade-Organic-Mixed-Spice/44406011?from=search&param=mixed%20spice.

So you could buy a jar ready done, or just mix your own as others suggest.

This american website lists Pumpkin pie spice. ingredients exactly the same as the Barts mixed spice on Ocado. www.luckyvitamin.com/p-257897-frontier-natural-products-pumpkin-pie-spice-salt-free-blend-1-92-oz?LanguageCode=EN&locale=de-AT&scid=scplp114188&sc_intid=114188&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjsWO-d-N3gIVgeR3Ch079QK4EAQYBCABEgLpz_D_BwE

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/10/2018 16:18

I really don’t get pumpkin spice - in my experience, pumpkin has almost no flavour, so surely it is just a spice mix?

Member · 17/10/2018 16:30

I tell you what I’d like and that’s to be able to get cartons of egg nog like they use in Starbucks for egg nog latte in the run up to Christmas (unless anyone has any bright ideas that don’t involve adding a raw egg to latte)

SuperGekkoMuscles · 17/10/2018 17:43

Because it’s disgusting I imagine...

I hate flavoured hot drinks, I just want a hot chocolate without the seasonal crap.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/10/2018 17:57

Thanks @StrawberryTraveller ; It’s a bit more expensive than I thought it would be Shock

sunshinewithabitofdrizzle · 17/10/2018 18:30

Tesco sell canned pumpkin in the World Foods aisle. Also Amazon UK has lots of pumpkin spice stuff.

ForalltheSaints · 17/10/2018 18:47

There is no Pumpkin Spice because Simon Fuller rejected her at audition and chose Posh Spice instead!
