CabanaBayLife · 14/10/2018 22:46

Hi,

I live in the UK and the only Pumpkin Spice thing I have found is the PSL from Starbucks and Greggs Bakery. My AIBU is why is it so big in America but not in UK? Gutted I love Pumpkin Spice Sad

How can I buy Pumpkin Spiced products and shipped to the UK.

Is there anything that we can get in the UK that people really want in America?

Thanks in Advance x

You can buy canned ready to cook things - croissants, pain au chocolat and I had cinnamon rolls the other months as well. Biscuits are basically a slightly less risen scone so just make thin scones. Often cooked on a hot pan rather than in the oven

Errrrm
Well apart from marmite I’m having a go at a vaguely sane head of state?

LoudJazzHands · 15/10/2018 00:15

I'm in Canada. Everything is Pumpkin Spice at the moment.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/10/2018 00:17

Isn’t it because USA and Canada make a REALLY big deal about Halloween?

TheSmallAssassin · 15/10/2018 00:19

Well, blackcurrants are banned in the US, so I guess they are missing out on Ribena. And Kinder eggs. And salmonella free eggs and chicken.

NorthEndGal · 15/10/2018 00:19

But its not just about Halloween, here in Canada at least, it's about the Fall, and Thanksgiving, and sweater weather

TheSmallAssassin · 15/10/2018 00:25

Well, that explains it then, NorthEndGal, we obviously don't have Thanksgiving and we have autumn instead of fall and jumpers instead of sweaters Grin

NorthEndGal · 15/10/2018 00:32

Of course! It's just lost in translationGrin

NorthEndGal · 15/10/2018 00:34

Also , living in Canada is the best of both worlds, as we get ribena, black currants, kinder eggs, and pumpkin spice!
Mmmmmm

Atchiclees · 15/10/2018 00:42

We make our own pumpkin spice, easy to make and we then use it in pumpkin pie. I took me ages to try pumpkin pie because I was scared of the sound of it, but it is bloody delicious and we can’t make it fast enough round here as friends love it too

Cecily85 · 15/10/2018 00:52

TheSmallAssassin, I grew up in the US, where my mom used to pay me to pick black currants off our bushes when I was a kid, and then we'd have jam from them.

Black currants were banned in parts of the US because there was some kind of fungal currant blight in the early 1900s that was killing forest, etc. But that's over, and black currants are very much legal in the part of the US where I grew up.

People, you can buy Libby's canned pumpkin at grocery stores here in the UK. I got some at Tesco last week. It made good pies, though of course not as good as fresh.

The secret to a great pumpkin pie, though, is adding lots of whipped cream to the finished product.

Pumpkin pie:

3/4 cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
2 Large eggs
1 can LIBBY'S® 100% Pure Pumpkin (15 oz)
1 can NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk (12 fl oz)
1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie shell ((4-cup volume))

There are lots of American foodstuffs available through Amazon and The American Candy Store.

If you are in London, try Selfridges food halls. They used to have quite a bit (but it has been a while since I last checked).

sansouci · 15/10/2018 01:06

Homemade pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream is divine! PSL are disgusting. Coffee and pumpkin spice
and loads of sugar = 🤮

theoldtrout01876 · 15/10/2018 01:09

PippilottaLongstocking Here is my pumpkin pie recipe. Its fool proof, honest. If you cant get pumpkin, butternut squash works really well too and you really cant tell its not pumpkin

a pie pumpkin
1 cup sugar
1.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon mace
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 large eggs
3 cups pumpkin glop
1.5 cans (12oz each) of evaporated milk

The trick is to bake the pumpkin or squash and let the glop drain for a bit in a sieve after you scrape it out the skin.

Mix everything up and pour into a pie crust and bake at 425F for 15 mins then turn down to 350 and bake till a knife comes out clean when stuck in the center

Also swirling some of the glop through a cheesecake mixture is awesome too. Pumpkin pie cheesecake is to die for Grin

Thank you everyone for your comments, I certainly would love the UK to start selling Pumpkin Spiced Chocolate and Cereal.

I also think Primark is something Americans don’t have with a lot of Disney and Harry Potter clothing?

Yes I need an American friend like a pen pal also it’s only 27 weeks until I’m next in America on holiday but I will have missed pumpkin spiced stuff by then. Sad

@theoldtrout01876 Agree on the cheesecake mix. We also make pumpkin pie with a cheesecake base, but add the spices to the base too for extra warm spice hit.

llangennith · 15/10/2018 01:20

Pumpkin is horrible unless you add spices and lots of sugar.

mathanxiety · 15/10/2018 01:28

Try adding a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses or treacle to your pies, Cecily85 and theoldtrout, and cut the sugar back a bit. Half a cup should be fine.

LoudJazzHands · 15/10/2018 01:37

I don't like pumpkin pie even though it's everywhere.

marylou1977 · 15/10/2018 04:33

If you google pumpkin spice creamer you can find a recipe to add to your coffee. Pumpkin spice coffee is really good.

Peridot1 · 15/10/2018 05:26

There is a huge Primark in Boston Cabana. Apparently when it opened first loads of Irish people living in New York flew to Boston with empty suitcases to fill up at Primark. (Primark is originally Irish and trades as Penny’s there).

I’m not sure I have had pumpkin spice - not keen on sweet milky coffees.

Funkyslippers · 15/10/2018 09:48

As a result of this thread, I just had a lovely bowl of Pumpkin Spice porridge. In most major supermarkets. But all it probably is is a sachet of porridge with a bit of spice and some pumpkin seeds. Lovely though

ShadyLady53 · 15/10/2018 11:49

Sipping on my homemade PSL doing a nightmare piece of work on the laptop. It’s helping me through!

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/10/2018 11:55

Is there any pumpkin in a pumpkin spiced latte or is it just the spices? Is it sweet or just the spices?

Blackcurrants are banned in the US? Shock Eh?

Large Asdas often have US groceries, so they might have pumpkin spiced or other stuff.
