Sketch?

Someone has sent me one on WhatsApp, I hate Benny Hill and that type of humour. The bloke sending it does or should know I wouldn't find it funny.

It's misogynistic, sexist and ridiculous!

Can I ask you for a great "put down line".

I've a feeling it was sent with a "this will wind reallyreally up" type way!

Haaa! ^^

Send him this?

Rhinofeet · 14/10/2018 09:15

You could either ignore entirely or say something like 'thank God no one sensible finds that funny anymore'

What is it with men sending 'funny stuff' to women that's clearly not. I've had one this week where a school gate dad sent me a picture of a baby wearing a Halloween baby grow with the print 'I want to suck you boob' suggesting I buy it for my own 7 month old Hmm

When I ignored him, he accused me of having no sense of humour.

I dunno, maybe I don't, but increasingly wondering whether this Is a subtle form of sexism to make women feel uncomfortable.

It could be but equally some could just be non-discriminating asshats. It's not just women who get peurile emails and IMs sent to them, though I don't need to be convinced that women almost certainly get the worst of it and men are the worst offenders. I've had to tell a few numpties to pack it in over the years but being 6'3" and looking like shrek means they tend to take me more seriously than most.

ivykaty44 · 14/10/2018 12:52

Ignoring misogyny just lets it continue, by ignoring this behaviour give the message it’s acceptable

ChilliHobnobs · 14/10/2018 15:03

"Eurgh. What misogynist bullshit. Can't believe people used to watch that crap. Glad we've moved on from that type of thing"

Shame we haven't moved from your personal type of crap.

reallyreallynow · 14/10/2018 15:35

@ChilliHobnobs could you explain your comment? I don't understand what you're trying to say?

OP posts:
RomanyRoots · 14/10/2018 15:39

I would completely ignore it, he did it for a reaction. Or block him completely.

Can I just ask anyone else who posts and OP, "does the theme music sound bad to you as well" Do you just think eurgh when you hear it, or do es it not bother you?

onalongsabbatical · 14/10/2018 15:41

Please do what iliketomoveitmoveitMOVEIT suggests and links to, it's genius. I'm now just awaiting the opportunity to use it myself. Grin

reallyreallynow · 14/10/2018 15:55

@RomanyRoots hate the theme tune! 😤

OP posts:
ChilliHobnobs · 14/10/2018 16:18

@reallyreallynow Bumblebore knows.

BumbleBored · 14/10/2018 16:45

No idea. Confused

Usersname · 14/10/2018 16:47

It's a generational thing. If it really bothers you then just ignore it obviously. Let it go over your head. It's no use getting heated up over something from ages ago. They won't be filming any more series will they?
Some people including our family actually found it funny at the time, it was lighthearted entertainment and just of its time and now society has to cater for people who find it offensive.
Everybody finds something offensive.

It's shocking what was on TV back in the day compared to what we tolerate now but Id rather they banned shite like love island and all the other plastic coated reality shows.

Womaningreen · 14/10/2018 16:51

OP who is the "someone"?

can't you just unfriend them or whatever? Then if they ask, you can say "I don't mix with people who find that funny" and shrug. They may get annoyed, but just let them Grin

Ta1kinpeace · 14/10/2018 16:51

Could you not reply
"Benny Hill is dead"
which can be taken in many ways, that make the point.

Bluelady · 14/10/2018 16:53

It was absolutely of its time. I always found it puerile, so did most people with half a brain. Not much 1970s/80s comedy withstands modern scrutiny. There was much worse around, lots of racist stuff which black actors readily worked on.

Luglio · 14/10/2018 16:56

I love Benny Hill. A misunderstood comedy genius. Way better than Ronnie Barker.

Ta1kinpeace · 14/10/2018 16:57

I met Benny hill a couple of times - he and I used the same Chinese Takeaway
He was of his time
but he is dead
and so is that time

Womaningreen · 14/10/2018 17:00

if my mum and her mates are anything to go by, he certainly made a lot of women of his time feel really uncomfortable, which of course was his aim

and the aim of this guy sending it to OP.

ChilliHobnobs · 14/10/2018 17:05

That should have been bumblebored knows.

pigsDOfly · 14/10/2018 17:10

I'm old enough to have been an adult when this crap was aired on television.

I had no idea then why anyone found it funny and I doubt it's become any funnier as time has gone on.

It's rubbish, aimed at people with a lavatorial sense of humour.

I suppose if you find ugly little men lusting after young women with big breast then it's your sort of thing.

Whatever Benny Hill was he wasn't a comedy genius.

figelnarage · 14/10/2018 17:13

Send him a 'bore off' gif

Sadoldbagpuss · 14/10/2018 17:19

I loved Benny hill a hen it was out , I think I was about 8 , the smut went over my head. I am thankful shit like it isn't made anymore but as someone before mentioned can we judge the 70's when love island etc.. is still on our screens.

AfterSchoolWorry · 14/10/2018 17:22

Runnynosehunny 😂😂😂 brilliant!

smallfootpercy · 14/10/2018 17:22

Ignore it. Really.

Any other reaction and he'll know he got to you. Don't mention it to anyone he knows, just delete.

It's much more satisfying to just say "What clip? Oh I didn't look at it" if he ever mentions it.
