every time I went out.
what is it with people having to be constantly Slurping!

the world cannot cope with all the rubbish this causes.

I don’t have nice coffee at home. I don’t have time to sit in the cafe and drink it but I do want a nice cup of coffee! I bring my own cup and it’s a bit of a treat (sad I know). I look forward to it. My parents don’t get the drinking coffee on the go thing either thought. They think I’m strange.

Don’t see why it annoys you if people are using their own cups

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/10/2018 14:46

“the elderly are often dehydrated. Their kidneys do not function as well as they used to so the thirst reflex gets less efficient as you get older. The fact they don't carry bottles is not a point in your favour”

Well, you said it yourself. The fact they are dehydrated is because their thirst reflex deteriorated with age. It has nothing to do with having constant access to water. I am constantly having to tell my own dad to drink more when I visit. He only has a few cups of tea a day and one or two tiny glasses of water. Plus wine! He doesn’t go anywhere and has a perfectly good tap, glasses and water filter jug at home. and I suspect that’s the case with most elderly people.

Really, anyone can be perfectly healthy with a drink at home in the morning, a mid-morning cuppa or glass of water at work, a drink of whatever at lunchtime, mid afternoon cuppa or glass of water and nothing else till they get home from work.. A glass and a tap, that’s all you need to stay hydrated. Different if you’re going to the gym afterwards, obviously.

RandomObject · 13/10/2018 14:47

There are a lot of things that people do nowadays that they didn't used to. It doesn't make it a trend, it just means times have changed, get over it!

I'm a continual slurper Smile i take medicine that gives me dry mouth so it's nice to be able to sip. Not to mention it keeps bad breath at bay.

ravenmum · 13/10/2018 14:47

Oh, I'm just trying to wind OP up. Where I live this is not such a big trend, people are too environmentally aware, and I work from home so just sit here with my own coffee. But I still think SIBU.

Slurping on a lovely cappucino right now actually.

Mmmmm.

Fernicktylo · 13/10/2018 14:47

agree about the unnecessary need to lug around water all day like a camel in the desert
BUT
i do drink coffee on the go. I NEED a morning coffee between 9 and 10 and if I am between offices or out and about at that time I have a takeaway.

Caprisunorange · 13/10/2018 14:49

“On trend” Grin
People have been carrying around bottles of water and coffee cups for at least 10 years. Where do you live?!?

Unicornandbows · 13/10/2018 14:50

Why do you care???

JacquesHammer · 13/10/2018 14:50

I work from home but on days when I visit clients I take a drink, we’re not always in places when I can access a tap. Far easier and less wasteful to bring from home.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/10/2018 14:51

@NotACleverName:
“Referring to something as innocuous as drinking water as a trend, ill-disciplined, infantile (etc) is also fucking ridiculous.”

Don’t be ridiculous . Humans have been drinking water since the dawn of time. It is the “how” that is being discussed on this thread, not the fact that people need H2O in their lives.

LittleBookofCalm · 13/10/2018 14:52

I really dont believe the argument that people are busier today.
they have just fallen for the consumerism.

OP posts:
WrongSideOfHistory · 13/10/2018 14:53

I take meds that make me extremely thirsty. I drink at least 4 large bottles of water when I'm out and about. I also go to the loo a lot!

It seems like this offends some people - well, my health and well being is more important than your easily offended sensibilities.

baristagirl · 13/10/2018 14:54

I think it's hilarious that so many of you are bothered by other people's drinking habits.
You have no idea if they are going to recycle their cups / bottles.
Those that are bothered by others drinking coffee whilst walking around town etc, might I suggest that you get a hobby or something.
You really must live pretty miserable lives Confused

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/10/2018 14:54

Random: “I'm a continual slurper smile i take medicine that gives me dry mouth so it's nice to be able to sip. Not to mention it keeps bad breath at bay.”

So you have a medical need to sip all day. I’m sure no-one here would have anything to say about that at all. People are not discussing the medical need to drink whenever they need to. They are discussing the average healthy adult or child.

MamaLovesMango · 13/10/2018 14:55

they have managed to live without constant hydration

Sorry if someone’s already pointed this out but OP, not a human on earth has managed to live without ‘constant hydration’. Really, zero.

LittleBookofCalm · 13/10/2018 14:56

@baristagirl interesting name, is this your job?

OP posts:
Caprisunorange · 13/10/2018 14:57

OP have you ever considered how supremely arrogant it is to judge others for what they drink and find them lacking - and not only that, to challenge their reasons for doing so as not being good enough for you?

I don’t think people were so arrogant or interfering in the past either really.

LittleBookofCalm · 13/10/2018 14:57

was that wrong @mamaloves, should it be constant re-hydration, my mistake

OP posts:
LittleBookofCalm · 13/10/2018 14:57

nerve touched @caprisun ?

OP posts:
CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/10/2018 14:58

“I NEED a morning coffee between 9 and 10”. You don’t, though. Unless you were up at 6 and didn’t have a drink before you left home. That’s a very precise time. If you were a nurse seeing to patients at that time then you woukd manage perfectly fine without, as do many people in many jobs who are busy working at that time each day.

LittleBookofCalm · 13/10/2018 14:58

i dont feel arrogant for being annoyed

OP posts:
ButAIBUtho · 13/10/2018 14:59

Now you're arrogant OP for pointing out people's obsession (and falling for the consumerism, good point) with having a bottle constantly attached to their hand.

Arrogant.

Apparently.

Caprisunorange · 13/10/2018 14:59

Well no arrogant people usually don’t. Too self obsessed to recognise feelings like that 🤷🏼‍♀️

RandomObject · 13/10/2018 15:00

I mentioned meds because they are fairly commonly prescribed and dry mouth is a frequent side effect! As it is with an awful lot of prescribed medication, including those for depression, anxiety, allergies, pain, high blood pressure, acne, diabetes and cancer. So a LOT of people.

LagunaBubbles · 13/10/2018 15:00

Why on earth does anyone actually care about other people eating and drinking outside, what a pointless thing to be concerned about!

RandomObject · 13/10/2018 15:01

I suppose I'm being hypocritical though because I also find rushing about with a Starbucks a bit silly - but then I like nescafe
