I never used to go around with a water bottle, let alone, grab a cup of coffee

@thenightsky cafes, restaurants, pubs, tube stations, department stores, shopping centres... there are toilets everywhere...

Dilovescake21 · 14/10/2018 19:06

Yep - agree with you there. Drinking water is ok but no wonder we have an obesity problem in the uk when people are constantly guzzling drinks and eating.

nannykatherine · 14/10/2018 19:13

@littlebookofcalm
but they are all withered up and dry

Cambalamb · 14/10/2018 19:13

179 cals in a flat white compared to about 20 in a filter coffee with milk.

OP, maybe they are far too busy. And to say it screams "Look at me?", Well does it? And to whom? Because I've certainly never clocked them and thought that. And to start a thread about it Grin

You're bored, they're busy!

HappilyHarridan · 14/10/2018 19:17

Trouble is my conscience won’t let me, and sometimes it’s children, my sister never takes water out and when my nieces are eyeing up mine cos they’re thirsty I feel too guilty saying no. I have tried saying at the outset ‘right has everyone got a drink to take’ but am invariably met with cries of ‘we don’t need a drink’ and then lo and behold when I get my drink out suddenly every fucker is thirsty.

kennycat · 14/10/2018 19:25

I’m with you OP.

I’m sure it won’t be long before we see swathes of people wearing camel packs so they can do the whole constant hydration thing in a hands-free fashion.

I know I obviously need bigger things to worry about but it drives me nuts seeing people drinking/carrying a drink all the time. Haven’t they heard of bags or pockets?

My daughter got a smiggle bottle with a straw nozzle thing for her birthday (not from me I might add) and I told her if I caught her sucking it like a baby as she walked out of the classroom I’d charity shop it!

So far she is still in possession of the bottle...

TheWiseWomansFear · 14/10/2018 19:27

And @LittleBookofCalm we had school water bottles when I was a child in the 90s

Polarbearflavour · 14/10/2018 19:27

I have a lovely reusable Royal Navy water bottle that I carry around an a travel coffee mug from a professional body.

Beansonapost · 14/10/2018 19:29

Lived in China and it was there I started carrying my own water bottle and reusable cup! They always had bottles with them... and glass flasks for teas. There was also always a hot tap and the drinking water is always warm.

.... I take my cup to the coffee shops etc.

I have my water bottle with me always. It's great. I don't buy bottled water any more.

China has all seasons... the problem is people think that in winter they don't need to stay hydrated... why do you think so many people walk around with peeling lips etc. Staying hydrated is not just for hot weather.... you sweat just as much wrapped in so many layers!

thenightsky · 14/10/2018 19:30

@thenightsky cafes, restaurants, pubs, tube stations, department stores, shopping centres... there are toilets everywhere

No there really isn't. Unless you are in a City centre or shopping mall like Meadowhall. There are two towns within a half hour drive from me. There is not one public toilet in either unless you go to a café (to down more liquid).

Recently I did a weekend away in the Scottish borders. It was ruined for me by the fact that it was a 2 - 3 hour drive between towns and then another 20 mins finding a toilet when arriving in said towns.

My DSs school a bottle of water is part of their essential equipment. They get a detention if any part of their essential equipment is missing.

StonyBrokeAgain · 14/10/2018 19:37

I'm with you shreddedbanksy. No office and I could be anywhere in the South East. I can be out for anything up to 16 hours a day.

RoseLillian · 14/10/2018 19:40

I don’t drink coffee, as I don’t like it. I do however take a reusable bottle of water most places, as does DH. I generally just feel thirsty quite easily. DH gets terrible migraines if he doesn’t drink enough (the type where you throw up). I am certainly not trying to be/look healthy by having a bottle of water with me. I agree with your point Op about waste and that we create far too much. I really don’t see why you have an issue if people are using reusable bottles/cups. If you really have nothing else to worry about you must have a very easy life.

Banamara · 14/10/2018 19:47

It is an antidote to smoking. Something to do with the hand to mouth thing. Seems to have happened once smoking was banned.

But it is also a veritable nod that you are fit, a walker or a runner. Look at me! I have a headband a fitbit and a bottle of water, I am virtuous, lol.

Just being lighthearted here. Coffee on the go is just so wasteful of money though. Make it at home/work. But another signal I reckon. I can afford it etc. Oh well, each to their own.

I really don't get what the problem is.

EK36 · 14/10/2018 19:51

I love drinking lots of water. It definitely makes a difference to my skin. My skin looks great for my age and its all down to the water I drink.

Harrassedhubby · 14/10/2018 19:56

Because the significant majority of pollution currently comes from emerging markets, and people in the western world would feel hypocritical begrudging developing countries their own industrial revolution, considering the benefits we have reaped sinceHalo

Harrassedhubby · 14/10/2018 19:57

Wrong thread!!!! GrinBlush

angel3008 · 14/10/2018 19:59

I try to carry with me a water bottle everytime I go out. It is not only good to keep yourself hydrated but also important for any kind of emergency. I was once stuck in the underground for more than 30 minutes and really needed some water and had none! Also the random irritating hiccup or cough amdvimsgine if you are far from a shop or water source. Water is such an essential when you are out and about.
About coffee, I rarely drink even at home.

Banamara · 14/10/2018 19:59

I don't remember all this water drinking when a kiddo. You got your squash, milk and tea and that was that!

Remember, too much water is dangerous too. Just saying.

OK if you are walking/running 10miles to work. But most of us lead sedentary lifestyles with a smidgeon of activity outside the home. Water is good, but it should not be a fashion statement constantly in your hand.

See above, in years past that was a cigarette.

Lalliella · 14/10/2018 20:01

I have a medical condition that requires me to drink very frequently. I reuse water bottles. It’s none of your business. How dare you judge me.

meohme · 14/10/2018 20:03

How you even have time to notice this I do not know! I wish I had enough time on my hands to be bothered by people drinking water as they go about their day.
