To ask how to raise £300 by 1 November?

NeedmoneyAsap · 13/10/2018 07:53

I really need £300, and I've tried to sell my unworn clothes on eBay and various sites online, Facebook etc. Only sold one item, and it's not like I'm selling it for high price, only £10. I just need the money now, what else can I do?

Does it need to be cash or could you get an interest free credit card?

Thisreallyisafarce · 13/10/2018 07:58

I'm useless at these. I can never think of anything. Sorry!

Borrow it?

Antigon · 13/10/2018 07:58

When do you need it by? Royal Mail are looking for christmas staff.

Have you tried a job agency? Temping?

Leaflet dropping? Paper round?

Antigon · 13/10/2018 07:59

Ask bank for an overdraft?

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 13/10/2018 08:00

It's very difficult to give you specific advice because we don't know your circumstances but hers a few general ideas.
Car boat sale,
Old toys on eBay and Facebook
Overtime, but this may get is it after 1st Nov but would your employer give you an advance.
Could you negotiate a payment plan for the 300 pounds?

Sorry I know I haven't been overly helpful but I'll keep thinking

ferntwist · 13/10/2018 08:00

£10 is pretty high for an eBay clothing item unless it’s from a recognised label. You would do better to sell cheaper and you’ll sell much more.

NeedmoneyAsap · 13/10/2018 08:01

How do I get an interest free credit card? And what are your experience with it?

Seniorschoolmum · 13/10/2018 08:02

Baby sitting. Put the word around your friends so you are targeting people who know & trust you.

ferntwist · 13/10/2018 08:02

Can you move out of your room and crash with a friend/relative/partner and put your flat or room on AirBnB? My brother and I have both done this before.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 13/10/2018 08:02
  • typo paid not is it
NeedmoneyAsap · 13/10/2018 08:03

@ferntwist there's no point in selling it for under £10 if I'm offering for free shipping. Shipping cost me nearly £3, then there's all the eBay/Paypal fees, I'm looking if I make £2-4 profit

Why do you need the money as that might help people cone up with an alternative plan

Yellowflowersgreengrass · 13/10/2018 08:05

Depending on how desperate you are, do you have any excess furniture you can get rid of on gumtree? Anything you don’t need? £300 is a lot to raise by selling second hand stuff though.

HappyHedgehog247 · 13/10/2018 08:05

Try selling on Facebook marketplace so it’s people close to you who can collect.

Thisreallyisafarce · 13/10/2018 08:07

OP, I'm not sure how desperate you can be if you haven't looked into getting a loan or credit card. Why would a loan or credit card need to be interest free?

bridgetreilly · 13/10/2018 08:09

Yes, don't do it like this. Set the price low, but add on shipping separately. People searching for clothes won't expect free shipping but they will look for low starting prices.

ShellsBells76 · 13/10/2018 08:09

I agree with PP sell on Facebook Market Place.
I was clearing stuff out and had never really sold anything before and had a lot of success, plus no fees or p&p.

Is there any bar/pub/restaurant work you could do in the evenings and weekends, lots have staff availability in the run up to Christmas.

No legal job that you can just pick up at the drop of a hat is going to pay the OP £300 before 1 November. Hmm

Because of my religion, but I'm desperate goodness knows how many sites I've been trying to sell my clothes on.

I thought free shipping would attract attention, I have so much clothes I need to get rid of, hope this works. I've even thought on doing auction on Sunday?

Thisreallyisafarce · 13/10/2018 08:27

But you haven't looked into Islamic finance/credit cards? Okay.

ShellsBells76 · 13/10/2018 08:28

No maybe not but she could earn a bit of extra cash over the next few weeks, I'm not advocating she works illegally. Why would you think I'm suggesting that?
Many jobs pay weekly in pubs etc so it's an option.

Twillow · 13/10/2018 08:31

Could you take in ironing?
Make samosas and bhajis and sell at a car boot?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 13/10/2018 08:31

Do you have any jewellery you could pawn for a short period?

Thisreallyisafarce · 13/10/2018 08:33

ShellsBells76

Sorry, I didn't mean you advocated illegal working. I was just pointing out that yes, some law abiding employers will pay cash in hand rather than monthly, but for the most part you'd be looking at cash in hand because they weren't paying tax. And a weekly income for an evening or weekend job might make her £50 or so, but not £300. That's if you ignore how unlikely it is that she would just walk into a bar, ask for a job cash in hand, shifts tonight or tomorrow, and be given one. It's just not how it works, is it?
