Thinking of ttc next year, looking over finances and the terms and conditions of my employer's maternity pay - which is confusing!!

One of my friends says her company pays full pay for an entire year, which I'm a bit Shock and Envy at.

AIBU to ask what your maternity pay is like?

Statutory.

FlowThroughIt · 13/10/2018 15:07

6 weeks at 90%, then 33 weeks of SMP.

There's ZERO maternity pay in my home country so I'm not complaining.

BlackberryandNettle · 13/10/2018 17:43

Statutory (so 6 wks at 90% then 33 at ~£600pw ie the legal minimum). It's a big company as well. Not impressed.

Eminybob · 13/10/2018 17:50

I’m going to get 18 weeks full pay then smp.
If I were to start mat leave a week later, it would be 22 weeks full pay as they are changing the policy Angry

Stephisaur · 13/10/2018 17:52

I get 8 weeks full pay, then 32 weeks half pay.

I’ll be throwing loads of money into savings before I go onto half pay so that I can still enjoy my comforts!

thethoughtfox · 13/10/2018 17:58

Work out additional holidays; it can make a big difference when added on at the end.

Ohheyyy · 13/10/2018 18:24

Statutory. So I've been getting something like £140 a week and this month is my last mat pay packet. Joy.

romany4 · 13/10/2018 18:31

I only had 12 weeks at 75%.
But this was 1994

overagain · 13/10/2018 19:16

6 weeks 90%
12 weeks 50% + SMP
21 weeks SMP

carly2803 · 13/10/2018 19:37

6 weeks 90% - 39 weeks 145 a week

Ive been there almost 7 years too! middle management - absolutely crap package!!!

Luckily I will not be returning after this baby and will take into consideration the next job, about their mat benefits as i want a 2nd!!

AhhhhThatsBass · 13/10/2018 19:40

6 months full pay. No idea what else as went straight back to work then.

Pinkblanket · 13/10/2018 19:44

Statutory (professional workplace, plenty of money)

greendale17 · 13/10/2018 19:47

^Your friend is having a laugh

MicroManaged · 13/10/2018 19:48

5 months full pay then 4 months statutory.

cheminotte · 13/10/2018 19:52

A friend of mine who worked for Jaguar Land Rover got a year at full pay.
I don’t know what my current employer offers as I’d already had my kids when I started there.
There is a campaign for companies to publish their maternity, paternity etc pay rates as you never know until you start otherwise.

MagpieWife · 13/10/2018 19:52

I'm in the US, so absolutely nothing which is completely shocking to me! A generous maternity package is 3 months off on 50% pay. Much more common is 3 months off unpaid - or less. My friend had to fight to get 6 weeks off, unpaid. She also gets 10 days holiday a year which she is using.

I honestly don't know how families manage - but they do!

Yura · 13/10/2018 19:56

6 months full pay, afterwards smp. most people don’t take the full year

lifechangesforever · 13/10/2018 19:59

SIL gets full pay for a year - she's a solicitor.

I work for the NHS and currently on maternity, I get:

2 months full pay
4 months half pay + SMP
3 months SMP
3 months unpaid - which I won't be taking as we can't afford Sad

lifechangesforever · 13/10/2018 20:02

@greendale17 there are plenty of places that provide full pay for a year

SayNoToCarrots · 13/10/2018 20:08

I looked up accruing holiday as a teacher on mat leave. You are entitled to 28 days, minus any school holidays that take place within a school year before or after your leave. But!! But but but!! Your school can ask you to take these during periods of school closure. So, the holidays.

Dreamingofkfc · 13/10/2018 20:11

NHS here. I've spread my payments so taking a whole year. I also did a bit of bank in the qualifying period (what you get paid between 17-25 weeks) sot's a bit more than I normally would get.

Happygummibear · 13/10/2018 20:17

In a small European country they pay out a sum of money and the mother can chose to receive the money over a maximum of 3 years!!! 3 years maternity would be amazing :D

OrangeWoman · 13/10/2018 20:35

I get 9 months full pay and can take another 3 with no pay. With holidays I can probably get to 10/11 months paid.

FlotSHAMnJetson · 13/10/2018 20:40

Statutory, but if you only have stat you don't have to pay it back if you decide not to return.

Livpool · 13/10/2018 20:51

I get 6 months full pay, which I think is very generous
