Now they want to mess with our pizza's!

Ok, this has come from the Daily Fail so not sure on the accuracy but they state:

Pizzas will have to shrink or lose their toppings under proposed Government plans to cap calories in our favourite treats in an obesity crackdown.

Drastic guidelines from Public Health England state pizzas should contain no more than 928 calories. The move will also apply to pies, which will be capped at 695.

So in reality, if this is implemented, we're going to end up with pizza's with far less cheese and other toppings. This assumes that everyone eats a whole pizza to themselves! I know I certainly don't. Likewise I never eat a whole pie to my self! The only exception is that I occasionally eat at Pizza Express (apparently my favourite there will be over the "limit") and if I do that I don't eat any other meals that day.

AIBU to think this policing of our food is getting way out of hand?

Yeah, I’m YOUR opinion, Jesus it’s not difficult is it?

If I want to call into a supermarket and buy a 2000 calorie frozen pizza then I should be able to.

leafgrass · 13/10/2018 10:26

At the moment there is less choice regarding good quality meals with less sugar and fat added. The market is driven by what sells. Unfortunately people seem to gravitate towards very sweet and fatty things in the absence of good quality fresh ingredients. Tweaking the market a bit by putting limitations over what can be produced and sold will either force people to cook from scratch more if they don't like it or eat healthier readily produced good. Win win in terms of people eating better quality food. But I think artificial sweeteners should be limited too.

mooncuplanding · 13/10/2018 10:26

i'd welcome more options for lower calorie meals when out

Most restaurant meals approach the 1000 calorie mark, which is way over the top for most people

WitsEnding · 13/10/2018 10:30

I'd love to be able to go into a supermarket and buy a pizza that doesn't blow my calorie allowance for the whole day, that's better quality than those clingfilmed cheese & tomato / tinned pineapple and processed ham ones. I don't have a freezer and it's not an option.

ReginaPhalange2 · 13/10/2018 10:35

I just want to know what I’m eating when I’m out. I macro count my diet and I’ve found it the most effective way to diet.

I can have what I want within treason but I need to know what I’m eating, calories, carbs, protein and fat.

I don’t agree that they should cap things as wouldn’t people just buy more or add more topping?

I ate a Pizza Hut Pizza the other week, the under 600 cals last week as part of my macros for that day and still lost 1lb that week.

They just need to enforce labelling, us sit won’t be 100% accurate unless you weigh everything every time but it will be there or there abouts.

Cachailleacha · 13/10/2018 10:36

Me too WitsEnding. I'd like more variety of pizzas for one available. I still want to be able to buy the other sizes though.

Crunchymum · 13/10/2018 10:37

A dominos pizza feeds 4 of us (granted we have sides and 2 of the 4 are kids Grin).

I could happily eat a whole pizza to myself but it would be dinner then breakfast and lunch the next day.

Caprisunorange · 13/10/2018 10:38

They’re not proposing tax though are they, they are proposing an actual
Limit in the amount of calories a pizza can be. It’ll never happen

SusanneLinder · 13/10/2018 10:41

Not a fan of Dominos/Pizza Hut, but if people want them, they should be allowed to have them.
Proper Italian Pizzas are the way to go....😉.

TooTrueToBeGood · 13/10/2018 11:09

No, the 928 limit would be on a pizza for one. And that's a massive number of calories for one dish at one meal for one person

It's maybe a massive amount for a 5' 2" sofa jockey but, newsflash for you, we're not all of the same size or activity levels. My maintenance calories are over 3000 per day and Im neither a giant nor a professional athlete.

AlrightBabby · 13/10/2018 14:04

Make your own pizzas. Add extra cheese and leave out the apostrophe.

Best reply ever!! 😂

ushuaiamonamour · 14/10/2018 08:37

Have you noticed a pizza deliveryperson appearing on your road at odd hours? Well, the pizza box she carries is a dummy one. She's actually an agent of MI5 and the back of the 'delivery' van contains surveillance devices. Your treachery toward Queen and country has been noted in important places, and believe me, you won't be able to eat whatever you like when you're locked up for high treason.

ushuaiamonamour · 14/10/2018 08:39

ReginaPhalange2 That was for you--your name went missing. I think spies are messing with my computer because I told you too much.
