to ask for first time mum's experience of induction?

I'm due to be induced at 36+6 due to high bp in the umbilical cord. I've heard that first time mums are likely to need a c section? Would love for the induction to go smoothly but slightly worried I'm going to end up disappointed and with an emergency section.

Is it possible realistically to be induced this early with your first? AIBU to be super anxious about it?!

I was a first time mum, 16 days late induced and had an emergency c section. It was delicious! "Ooh you've reached 4cm off to a private room for you!" Then I had an epidural straight away few more hours then off for a very calm c section. If I had another baby I would be requesting an elective c section! The induction is not so nice very painful forced contractions but it's bearable. And it's all worth it at the end. My advice is go with the flow and try and keep your eyes on the prize. Don't stress Flowers

I was induced with dd and I'm afraid I did end up having an emergency C-section, but honestly, by the time it got to that stage, I didn't care how she came out - I just wanted to meet my baby!

Nobody can tell you what will happen in your labour, but please try not to be anxious - it will be what it will be and you will cope with it.

StitchingMoss · 11/10/2018 19:06

I was induced at 37 weeks and had a natural birth albeit in theatre!

emz1990 · 11/10/2018 19:07

I was induced with my first DD and didn't need a c section. Had forceps delivery with a tiny tear (only needed 2 stitches)
All the best x

SlipperyLizard · 11/10/2018 19:07

I was induced at 38 weeks for high BP. Pessary first, then they broke my waters which started contractions. DD was delivered 6 hours later.

Hurt like hell but then so did DD2 where labour started naturally!

PippaRose · 11/10/2018 19:08

I was induced and didn’t have a c section, had an epidural though.

Good luck and all the best!

Mimmee · 11/10/2018 19:09

I was induced at 38 weeks and actually found it a largely positive experience. Body didn't respond to the pessaries but once my waters were broken things progressed well and had no intervention. I would advice to ask for an epidural as soon as you have the drip or before as the contractions ramp up pretty quickly.
I was pretty scared before the induction as I had heard so many horror stories but I honestly think it can be as good an experience as any other birth. Good luck and hope it all goes smoothly for you.

crushedstrawberries · 11/10/2018 19:12

I was induced at 37 weeks due to 10 episodes of RFM. They had to break my waters but all went smoothly after that. Baby did have to have a clip in his head because he was slightly distressed. He was born in 4 hours with no injuries. He's 7 weeks today and is healthy, happy and currently fast asleep on my lap Smile

Cornettoninja · 11/10/2018 19:14

I went 10 days over and was induced. With the pessary then drip. I would definitely echo the advice to ask for an epidural before that!

Mine was pretty quick - admitted at 11am with the pessary and dd was born at 9am with a ventouse in theatre.

Focus on the baby arriving by any means necessary and be at peace with that. My only real desire with childbirth was to spend early labour at home (I hate hospitals) so was gutted to spend the whole thing there but it was fine.

Lolacherrycola78 · 11/10/2018 19:15

Induced first and 2nd time, got to say they were pretty easy, minimal pain (no pain relief) and both very quick (1st 3hr20min, 2nd 6hr59min, but back to back).
Would not hesitate about being induced again.
Good luck xx

Matiaana · 11/10/2018 19:18

Thanks everyone. I have a feeling being induced at 36 weeks is going to be less successful than at 40/41/42 but let's see...

I was induced due to h BP too and it all went fine. 12 hours from start to finish, gas and air only. The pain was fine until I was 7cm then they broke my waters and it ramped up hugely but it was only another couple of hours until she was born.
Good luck hope all goes well

GMtoBe · 11/10/2018 19:19

I was induced with my first for medical reasons on my due date. Had an epidural and forceps delivery with episiotomy. It was an emergency delivery in the end because my daughter's heart rate dropped significantly but that wasn't because of the induction. Didn't go anywhere near theatre though!

crispysausagerolls · 11/10/2018 19:19

Induced at 39+2 and he came a few hours after the second pessary. Was very painful once things got going but wonderfully quick and the best experience of my life!

WindsOfChange2018 · 11/10/2018 19:20

I was induced as he was 9 days late and had stopped moving.

I also have ms which means my muscle tone is much weaker and I get tired faster, so I had a failed labour.

I ended up with forceps which did terrible damage.

This meant my second birth I insisted on c section rather than forceps, and found the c section 10 times easier to recover from.

A midwife gave me the tip: ask what percentage success they expect from forceps. If it's less than 50> they shy away from offering it because they know it will damage you. I should have done that with dc1, but my sip used my newfound Knowledge and was offered c s immediately!

PeanutButterAndJamOnToast · 11/10/2018 19:20

I was induced at 40+2 for high BP. 3 days of nothing happening, then they broke my waters after DSs heart rate dropped, some very mild contractions to start, then they put me on the drip and everything went from 0-100 very quickly, the gas and air tube was a god send and it was all a bit blurry really after that, DSs heart rate dropped twice and they rushed me in for a CS. I didn't even have chance to realise what was happening, and I had a little bit of a panic attack. All was well in the end and I would have another CS next time as that actual part was a lot less stressful than the induction part.

ismellsnow · 11/10/2018 19:21

I was induced with my first (and second) and didn't get a C section although I had a ventouse delivery and an episiotomy.

Hope all goes well Thanks

DollyTots · 11/10/2018 19:25

I was induced on drip at 38 weeks with my first and gave birth naturally, no interventions but a lovely bit of pethidine

Lawm · 11/10/2018 19:25

Hi, I was induced at 36+5 for bp issues. I read about what could happen eg pessary not working first time (it took 3 goes for it to work), needing waters broken, strong contractions ramping up quickly, epidural, drip, ventouse&episiotomy, so when all of those things happened I wasn't bothered and just went with the flow. I found it quite nice to know when I would be having the baby(ish) instead of potentialy going overdue.

dreamyflower · 11/10/2018 19:28

I was induced at 40 weeks and ended up having a c-section. Pregnancy just didn't progress. Would recommend epidural. It is very painful. I went 12 hours before requesting it and wished I had had it from the beginning. My mum was induced for all 4 of her pregnancies and all 4 were natural.

dreamyflower · 11/10/2018 19:30

Labour not pregnancy!

Nothisispatrick · 11/10/2018 19:35

I was induced on a drip but had already had contractions for two days, but had a haemmorage so they needed to get things moving quicker due to the blood I was losing.

Tbh it was fine. I had an epidural and the pushing stage was very quick.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 11/10/2018 19:36

Induced at 39 weeks. Cervix not even close to ready when the gel first went in with the midwife predicting it would likely be a few days. Nothing for 6 hours then the contractions started and were a minute apart from the get go. No time for an epidural once the anaesthetist arrived. Active labour was 5 hours 45 minutes in total. Baby born 12 hours after the gel was inserted.

It was pain I couldn't even imagine and I could barely breathe the contractions were so intense but once I started pushing it was fine.

Go in with an open mind.

TrainsandDiggers · 11/10/2018 19:38

I was induced at 37 weeks with first. Had ventouse but otherwise normal vaginal delivery. Good luck!

kitkatsky · 11/10/2018 19:38

I was induced because of meconium in waters and delivered vaginally with the help of ventouse. It was fine!
