To dump this bag of rubbish on the pavement?

ScentWorkBags · 11/10/2018 07:44

Got up this morning to put recycling bins out and someone has put a full bin bag of 3ltr cider bottles in my bin Hmm

WIBU to take it out and leave it in pavement for bins to take because
A) I have a load of recycling I need to put in there myself!
B) They've left it in a bin bag which means they won't take my bin as it's non recyclable.
C) I don't want the bin man, who I always say hello to, to think I'm a raging alcoholic with a penchant for cheap cider!

Photographic evidence attached.

As annoying as it is who do you then expect to move the dumped bag?

Rebecca36 · 11/10/2018 07:47

Phone your council refuse department and tell them what happened. Then put it in your bin, leave your bin out and they'll organise a collection very quickly - if not today, tomorrow.

Same happened to me and that's what my council did. I was impressed.

Snugglepiggy · 11/10/2018 07:53

If it was me I would put on some rubber gloves, shake the bottles out of the bag into the bin,pop my other stuff on top and squash it all down. How much more stuff do you have to fit in ?I doubt the bin men are really that interested in the contents of your bin, they have a job to do and crack on with it.Plus if you put stuff loose on the pavement it can get kicked over, blown around and it's more plastic litter rolling around.Cheeky of whoever put it in granted, but if it's your bin day today as you intimated is it really that big a deal ? Hopefully a one off.

ScentWorkBags · 11/10/2018 07:55

I don't have any gloves and I don't really want to rummage in the contents. Fuck knows what else is in there. It's not unusual to find used needles round here.

Agree with PP, phone the council.
Random bags of rubbish are often left outside my house since a limit of 3 black bags fortnightly was imposed. Council always arrange for it to be collected when I phone.

longwayoff · 11/10/2018 07:55

Put on gloves. Pick up bag. Empty into recycling. Dispose of black bag in main rubbish. Tell mumsnet.

Bluewidow · 11/10/2018 07:55

It's only 1 bin bag, yes it's annoying but you are making a big issue out if nothing. Don't put in on the pavemen. Try and empty the bottles out of the bag and out in recycling bin direct. If you don't want to do this just out in general waste- not ideal from env point of view but hey it's not your waste. Try and squish the recycling down to try and get your recycling in too. Dust bin men won't care what's In your bin.

Finfintytint · 11/10/2018 07:56

You’d be fly tipping yourself if you put it on the pavement. Just report to the council or take the excess down to the recycling centre.

longwayoff · 11/10/2018 07:58

Ps the binmen dont care how much you do or dont drink. You have very civic minded alcoholics in your area with their bin bags and recycling even if it is in your bin.

Hellywelly10 · 11/10/2018 07:58

Just put it in a bin bag.

SputnikBear · 11/10/2018 08:04

If you chuck it on the pavement the bin man won’t take it. I wouldn’t empty it out either. God knows what’s in it. Move it into someone else’s bin?

ScentWorkBags · 11/10/2018 08:12

I have a full container of bottles and tins to go in.

If I leave them in there I won't have room for my weeks worth of recycling

OP posts:
Bluewidow · 11/10/2018 08:12

Well that's nice isn't it... Move it into someone else's bin and they are then as bad as the person who did it in the first place.
It really is a fuss over nothing. It's a good job your not a business - if they get fly tipped on the waste becomes their issue and they have to pay for it to be disposed of and can't reclaim that money unless there is a prosecution. Use that logic and it's now your rubbish so just put it in a bin.

claraschu · 11/10/2018 08:15

I pick up recyclable bottles and cans all the time. Yesterday, I picked up about 25 behind a bus shelter while I waited for my daughter's bus. I put them in my recycling bin- perhaps the bin men think I am drinking all of that myself, but I doubt they care.

I think that picking up other people's recyclables and dealing with them is one of the little things we can do to make the world a bit better. It is easy and painless, (and makes me feel good about myself). I have yet to contract any terrible disease from touching other people's garbage, even though I don't always have gloves. I just wash my hands well, with soap and hot water.

claraschu · 11/10/2018 08:16

If you push them down, they will probably fit. Otherwise, you can usually leave extra recyclables in a cardboard box next to your bin.

ScentWorkBags · 11/10/2018 08:18

I'm taking it out and calling council.

If I'm about when bin men come I'll explain to them. They might be happy to empty the contents straight from the bag.

I can't leave it in as I need the space.

OP posts:
ScentWorkBags · 11/10/2018 08:19

I'm not pushing down as there could be needles in there!

It's not a nice area and they are found all over the place so it's not out of the realms of possibility!

BMW6 · 11/10/2018 08:22

Get yourself a bin lock OP.

Sirzy · 11/10/2018 08:24

Use a brush or something to push it down.

I can’t beleibe you are considering leaving a bag your worried may have needles lying on the pavement! Hmm

justwantedalaugh · 11/10/2018 08:27

Just put it out with your rubbish and get the bin lock for next time. If you are a good citizen who recycles yourself, why not be extra civic-minded on this occasion? Think of it a bit like charity work or something.

Zigazagazoo · 11/10/2018 08:27

Oh lovely, so supposing there are needles in there, they could well end up in with the recycling if the bin men are ‘happy to empty the contents straight from the bag’.

LadyChatterlysLoofah · 11/10/2018 08:28

Agree with Clarashu. Rescuing recyclable litter is the right thing and simple. I bought cheap litterpicker, then sort, using gloves, wash hands thoroughly afterwards. Easy .

NobodysChild · 11/10/2018 08:29

What a non issue. Just walk down the street with it and find a bin that you can empty it in to.

longwayoff · 11/10/2018 08:30

First world pro . . .

diddl · 11/10/2018 08:30

Will the council really get involved?

If so, couldn't anyone just complain that someone else has filled their bin?
