To want a 'heavy' duvet?

SistersOfPercy · 10/10/2018 13:48

Looking around for a winter duvet and reminiscing back to my childhood, snuggled under layers of heavy blankets and a big heavy duvet.
Every duvet I look it boasts it's 'Lightweight'. I don't want bloody lightweight I want to feel pinned down and snuggly.

Has anyone actually got a proper heavy duvet they can recommend?

We've got the 12 tog Honsbar duvet from Ikea, it weighs loads.

We had an expensive Fogarty one before and the Ikea one wins hands down.

I have this. It’s like being eaten slowly by a really heavy marshmallow: www.lancashiretextiles.co.uk/duvets-cotton-blend-16-tog/ 💕

Have a look at Devon Duvets. They make an all seasons one which is a light weight and middle weight which can be used separately or tied together. When tied together they are super warm and super heavy. DH jokes that he can't get out of bed as he can't lift the duvet off.

They're so lovely I bought the mattress topper and duvets for the kids.

You just need a down duvet. Mine is wonderfully heavy!

BikeRunSki · 10/10/2018 22:43

We have just got a midweight wool duvet from Baavet. It is heavy and lovely.

beeefcake · 10/10/2018 23:03

Sorry to derail your thread op but now we have all the duvet experts here:

Someone was posting on here a while back about duvets which kept you warm in the winter but cool in the summer- what are they???

NicoAndTheNiners · 10/10/2018 23:08

I have a winter weight baavet, lovely and heavy.

Athena51 · 10/10/2018 23:17

I declare this thread to be the inaugural meeting of the Baavet Wool Duvet Appreciation Society Smile

Anyway, I'm off to bed to snuggle up under mine.

Excited101 · 10/10/2018 23:22

I’m EXACTLY the same as you op, I have windows open all year around and unless it’s PEAK summer (when I have my 4.5 tog duvet) I use my 10 tog. When it’s cold enough I add a ridiculously heavy blanket from Egypt, it’s amazing! Doesn’t tend to fall off, it’s SO heavy. But it is only me in bed... generally!

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 10/10/2018 23:23

Another vote for feather duvets here. Mine just sort of falls around my body with a reassuring weight. I love it and I'll maim anyone who tries to take it away from me. Cool in summer, warm in winter.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 10/10/2018 23:27

And to add, my DM slept in my bed one night. The VERY NEXT DAY she went out and bought her own feather duvet. She was completely converted, after years of insisting on sheets, cellular blankets & a quilt on top (yeah, used to love making the bed for when she came to stay Hmm )

GooseDownCreek · 11/10/2018 09:36

I do love down /feather duvets but I'm allergic to feathers. I stupidly bought a really expensive one and an allergy cover for it. It was divinely heavy but I still sneezed and sniffled all night under it.

beeefcake I think it was wool duvets that were supposed to keep you cool in winter and warm in summer. I bought one after reading about them on here and it's lovely and heavy but unfortunately far too warm for menopausal me. I will try it out again once the weather is much colder.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 11/10/2018 11:11

Just to say a good down duvet will not be heavy - in fact it will be incredibly light (I could flick my old king size one with one hand and it would float slowly back down and land silently). If you want weight, feathers are better, and you won't be paying for lightness you don't want.

SistersOfPercy · 11/10/2018 12:30

Right, DH is off work tomorrow and will be delighted to learn we're going duvet/blanket shopping.
Dh can't have feather pillows so I assumed he'd be ok with an allergy cover on a duvet, though now I've read gooses post I'm not so sure (great name for this thread btw!)

sanitygirl · 11/10/2018 12:32

Haven't read the whole thread but I would suggest a wool winter weight duvet - I have one and it's really heavy (too heavy for me!)

SistersOfPercy · 13/10/2018 13:06

Right, I have a duvet!

DH and I went to dunelm and fondled many. Neither of us liked the wool one and that had been our preferred option before we actually got to feel it.
In the end we went for a Dorma Sumptuous like down. £70 for a king.
It actually crinkles like a hotel duvet. It's bloody lovely. It's not massively heavy but feels really luxurious. Because I'd not spent the £100+ I'd planned on a wool one I had some left over for a nice heavy quilted throw as well. Had the best nights sleep last night.
😍

teaandtoast · 13/10/2018 13:17

Sounds brilliant! Could you link to the throw?

SistersOfPercy · 13/10/2018 13:54

No tea, the trow was tkmaxx

teaandtoast · 13/10/2018 16:25

Ah ok, thanks. I'll have a look in ours when I'm next down that way.

scaryteacher · 13/10/2018 19:37

www.soakandsleep.com/ is where I buy my 4 seasons duvets from. Can't beat them.

Gilead · 25/10/2018 05:05

Couldn’t make a decision so night the Ikea twenty five quid feather and down quilt recommended above as a stop gap measure. It’s permanent. Best £25 I’ve spent in a long time.

Gilead · 25/10/2018 05:06

Night? Bought!
