Boys and men with ear rings??

About 40 years ago when my brother was a teen he had is left ear pierced as it was 'fashionable' at the time. However, this phase shortly passed and by the time he was 20 the ear ring had gone forever.

I see younger and younger boys (from age 8 or 9 upwards) who wear an ear ring in the left ear.

AIBU to ask if this is still to do with fashion or am I missing a much deeper reason such as cultural?

My BIL still wears an ear ring (he's in his late 50's) and in his case it is definitely NOT cultural - he just thinks it looks cool!!!

I think he looks ridiculous AIBU? I try not to laugh when I see him, but that's more because he has huge ears and the ear ring draws attention to this!

@AllThingsServeTheBeam Oh I’m sorry I thought this was a AIBU thread on whether earrings on men and boys look ridiculous 🙄
Which they do, and I stand by that!

Why do men look ridiculous with earrings but not women?

tttigress · 26/07/2022 16:34

Personally I think the older you are as a man with an earring, the worse it looks. A 50 year old guy with an earring usually looks pretty sad.

Obviously massive disclaimer, it's up to them etc. etc.

Apart from the fact that this is a zombie thread, I'm a woman with several piercings, and tattoos, and frankly the ageism here is disgraceful!

I mean, DS(5) is asking for his done as he wants to look more like me and daddy and we both have lots of piercings.

I've told him the same thing I'll tell any child - wait until you are old enough to get them done in a proper piercing shop with a needle. I have 2 old piercings that were done with a gun and if they were on their own they'd probably look fine, but compared to the precision of a needle piercing (and the easier healing period) they look proper shit.

Depends on the person
It makes some kids/adults look like thugs.
I do like it on brown/black man tbh :)

Mally100 · 27/07/2022 13:42

I have to say I can't think of the last time I saw a man with earrings.

AnchorWHAT · 27/07/2022 14:15

Or maybe 'AIBU to think football tops should only be worn on the pitch?'

Or “AIBU to think bikinis should only be worn at the beach or on holiday and not at the local leisure pool/health club pool? You’re there to swim, not get a tan.”

xogossipgirlxo · 27/07/2022 17:13

Justin Timberlake looked fine with earrings. I can't imagine my husband though 😆

I am so confused. I’ve been quoted from 2018. 🤔 Do I need to go back and RTFT? I see the comment that resurrected this thread has been deleted.

Haha loved that I've got deleted. Pathetic

Imagine if this was a "Why do women wear trousers? It's really offputting"

A toxic thread by all accounts. Let people wear what they like - chances are they are not trying to attract you.

A goady thread from nearly 4 years ago. But I did post a great picture of Rob Lowe on it originally. Grin
