Or do u stick to a branded one. Want to re paint DS room just as a tidy up. But b&q, is on a major road closure / roadwork route so don't fancy sitting in traffic to get there unless u have to?

I always use wilkos paint. It goes on well and the colours have been lovely.

HorseDentist · 07/10/2018 10:29

Awful.

RiddleyW · 07/10/2018 10:30

I did a bedroom as a stop gap to cover some awful paint. It was fine but did need more coats than more expensive paint.

Merryoldgoat · 07/10/2018 10:31

I’ve used the emulsion and it was terrible.

HorseDentist · 07/10/2018 10:32

I should elaborate. It has a sort of rubberised texture that means it sticks to the roller/brush but not the wall. It goes on.lumpy and really holds the brush strokes. Nightmare to decorate with.
Having said that. Once you actually get it to stick to the wall in some sort of smooth fashion, it does actually last well. But if you are going to decorate yourself I really wouldn't recommend.

KeysHairbandNotepad · 07/10/2018 10:32

The kind I bought was awful. It went on like custard , I had to ask for a refund and pay out more to fix the appearance of the wall.

I can't remember the name of that particular type but I stick with brands after this.

GreenLantern53 · 07/10/2018 10:34

all the ones i used were fine. why not check the website for reviews??

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 07/10/2018 10:36

My mum loves wilkos paint and shes used a lot of paint in her life she'll decorate for the sake of decorating.

She was really impressed with it

OnBail · 07/10/2018 10:38

I wanted a mint/light green colour for the bathroom, got the closest colour I could find, the small colour sample on the tin looked ok, put the paint on and it was fucking luminous, briiiiiiiight green, it was awful and in no way resembled the colour on the tin.

Went to b&q and got their own brand and it was lovely. Put me off buying Wilko paint again.

SplishSplashSplosh · 07/10/2018 10:38

I used it for DD bedroom and would use it again. (I bought the emulsion in the black tin)

I found it covered well and hardly smelled.

MrsMotherHen · 07/10/2018 10:48

ive always used wilkos paint nothing wrong with it.

GerdaLovesLili · 07/10/2018 10:48

My kitchen units are done in their "almond milk" satin. They took two coats and still look great two years later.

HowCanThisBeRight · 07/10/2018 11:17

A mixed bag then. I only have a couple of days to do it. So don't want to waste time if it'll need doing again if don't go on well.. And I have zilch patience for that. Lol
Altho dp reminded me homebase is close too so maybe I'll get it there?

Interested in responses too. We want to repaint every room in the house we are buying and don't fancy forking out £16 a tin for Dulux... Wilko currently have an offer of £7.50 a tin (was £15 - seems to be there more premium range). But equally don't want to scrimp if the paint quality is rubbish.

ParadiseLaundry · 07/10/2018 11:26

We've used a few different paints recently and found Wilko to be one of the best. I think it goes on beautifully and the coverage is really good. We usually use Little Greene and the shades aren't quite as nice as those but performance wise I really rate them, and obviously they are a lot cheaper!

DragonflyInn · 07/10/2018 11:28

Really surprised by some of the comments here. Having always used Farrow and Ball I recently did our living room in Wilko emulsion and it was excellent. Maybe we were just lucky! Will definitely be using it again.

UpstartCrow · 07/10/2018 11:32

Wilkos paint is made by Berger, so its good quality. I'm not a fan of all of their colours as they can be bright. The muted tones are better imo.

bellabasset · 07/10/2018 11:36

B&M as well as the Range stock branded paint at good rates. You can get Johnstone paints. No Homebase nearby any longer.

I have some B&Q but needs 2 coats, put off a bit by the Valspar issues.

We are lucky to have a paint hub near us that sells paint at reasonable prices

AviatorShades · 07/10/2018 11:39

I mourn the passing of WoolworthSad Their paint was brilliant, oh!and could sustain yourself on pick'n'mix chocs while you did it!
I dont know about Wilkos own but can vouch for B&Q.

Manderleyagain · 07/10/2018 11:46

Not as good as deluxe. More likely to need another coat. Better than b&q own brand. In My experience.

MilkchopsMcgee · 07/10/2018 11:49

We used wilkos in my daughter's room, and I think it's fab, went on well has a lovely smooth finish to it, my only issue I'd it needed 2 coats where as a more expensive brand probably could have done it in one. It was the Matt emulsion in the white cans, avoid the black durable tins as these are the rubberised ones and are a faff to paint with!

Thymeout · 07/10/2018 11:52

I think they sell testers. I don't know about Wilco's paint but I've found them much better for brushes and paint pads than our local Homebase since it was taken over by Bunnings.

MissMarplesKnitting · 07/10/2018 11:55

Their kitchen and bathroom paint is really good.

Not sure about standard finished though.

SaltyPeanut · 07/10/2018 11:55

Have used Wilko silk emulsion in the kitchen because I liked the colour. Looks like a lovely texture in the tin but when you get it on the roller it's like sticky custard and although it looks like it's going on nice, found roller skids and speckled patches where the previous paint shows through. Uses a shit tonne extra paint too. It took 6 coats to cover white with a mid tone colour and there's still a few bad patches. Had to buy a second 2.5 litre can and it used all of that too where one 2.5l of Dulux would have been enough to finish it with plenty spare as there isn't that much wall when cupboards are taken in to account.

Also used their quick dry white gloss once. It turned yellow before it was dry.

Also used their 'diamond hard' coloured varnish...chipped as hell NOW and started chipping a couple of days after applying to my new work bench.

Also tried their clear varnish on the pine coffee table I had made...it's still sticky after eight months and am going to have to sand it back and get some Ronseal.

False economy in my view, looks good but the performance is poor.

ProfessorMoody · 07/10/2018 12:11

I've used a lot of Wilko paint as it was all I could afford at the time. It's awful, thin, garish colours, needs so many coats.

This time we were able to get Dulux and the difference has been amazing.
