To think pmt like this isn't normal?

mallap345 · 06/10/2018 08:23

I'm 33 and my pmt is out of control.
10 days before my period I'm out of control.
Extreme tiredness where I'm exhausted getting out of bed.
Really sore boobs and hot sweats,I literally drip in sweat, palpitations and the mood swings are so bad,I'm so angry,I've grabbed my boyfriend by the face and actually have thoughts about punching him.
I'm so angry and then I will cry all the time, hysterically cry.
I've punched myself before and I think about just escaping life because I can't cope ..as soon as my period starts it all goes and I'm back to normal.
My doctor is no help at all.
My period isn't due for 9 days and yesterday I was out of control.
Screaming, throwing things then crying, hot sweats and palpitations.
I take evening primrose oil but no help.
My doctor won't even check my hormone levels as my periods are regular.
My thyroid is fine.
I can't stand my life this way.

I've just ordered these from boots.
The reviews are good.
I really need something.

To think pmt like this isn't normal?

I had this for YEARS

It literally ruined my life every month

In the last year, I have completely overhauled my diet. No sugar, very low carbs, high fat, (it’s called ketogenic diet) and it has transformed by hormones and PMT.
The diet is renowned for healing your hormones - starting with insulin and then the sec hormones also heal over time.

I could not believe that nutrition could have such as effect, but it has. It took a few cycles mind you...month 1 was horrendous PMT, then I had a 3 week period, then it calmed down. I now have what I call “old fashioned” pmt where I cry at kitten videos or a vaguely sad situation, but the rage and depression has gone completely.

Diet is the key because it is NOT normal.

mallap345 · 06/10/2018 08:32

Wow Thankyou for that il look into it.
I get so annoyed at these movies that show women with ice cream watching chick flicks as a representation of pmt when in reality I could probably commit murder

I was the same and didn’t realise it was hormone related for years. I hope you find a solution & can enjoy more of your life.

mallap345 · 06/10/2018 08:48

Thankyou me too.
Pleased your ok now :-)

Agnus Castus may help. Also my PMT massively worsened when I had low Vitamin D.
Magnesium might help as well, and zinc.

mooncuplanding · 06/10/2018 08:51

I take those magnesium supplements along with the Ketogenic diet

I honestly thought I’d be like that forever and like you, doctors refused me hormone tests as too young, regular periods etc. But I’d never have thought in a million years that I’d be able to sort it through what I eat

shelleymermaid · 06/10/2018 08:54

I also did the ketogenic diet, I actually did it to lose weight and could not believe what a difference it made.

Unfortunately I didn’t have the willpower to maintain low carb once I’d lost weight but hoping to try again at some point.
I usually get tremendously bloated around my period with water retention as well as similar PMT to what you describe and on the ketogenic diet my stomach was pretty flat throughout my period, another thing that must have been down to the diet. My mood swings were noticeably better and my energy levels went through the roof. I was able to do sport again and felt so much better.
Last Saturday I spent all day in bed unable to get out with such bad energy levels related to PMT.

This post has actually made me think its time to start Keto again!

mallap345 · 06/10/2018 08:55

Thankyou I have a little hope now anyway.
It's been so bad I even thought about a hysterectomy.
I just want my life back not 10 good days a month

Look up pmdd. There’s stuff that can be done. I was offered antidepressants to take just around period in retrospect I wish I’d taken them....

Branleuse · 06/10/2018 08:57

Have you tried agnus castus?
I found it was absolutely a game changer.
Try it alongside evening primrose and vitamin b6 . You can get it from health food shops but its much cheaper online. You take it every day for best results

mallap345 · 06/10/2018 08:57

Did anyone feel sickly with pmt? I'm never actually sick but feel sick really bad and headaches too.

OP posts:
mallap345 · 06/10/2018 08:58

No I've never actually heard of that.
I will have a look in Holland and Barrett.
I'm willing to try anything

mooncuplanding · 06/10/2018 08:59

I did keto specifically for the sole reason of life destroying PMT
But I have lost weight too, Brucey bonus

There’s a great podcast called Keto for Women which details a lot of the hormonal / diet stuff. I say great in that the info is good, her voice is slightly nauseating though so may send you under in current PMT state

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 06/10/2018 09:09

Following! Feel the same here OP.
In my early 40's and pmt seems to be taking up 1/2 the month at the moment. My poor family are being screamed at very frequently and I'm in tears most days.

I'm trying macca powder at the moment... https://www.organicburst.com/products/maca
As well as being healthier - drinking less / exercising more... do you fancy checking in with each other here to see what helps?

Thanks
cookiesandchocolate · 06/10/2018 09:13

I am a big believer in diet helping with a lot of things like this.
Placemarking as I think my diet is in need of a shake up with the amount of processed stuff I consume.
Hope you manage to find something that works OP

mallap345 · 06/10/2018 09:23

It would be great if we could all help each other.
It feels so lonely sometimes when none of my friends have pmt like this.

OP posts:
mallap345 · 06/10/2018 09:24

This is the time when I start craving ridiculous amounts of sugar
From fizzy pop to sweets etc
Which I know I can't or shouldn't do

mooncuplanding · 06/10/2018 09:26

I realise that keto might not work for everyone but I would urge you to try it if it is so bad. But like I said, the first few months are Rocky...it really disrupts your cycle but I saw this as a sign it was doing something to my hormones. It’s actually called the healing phase as your body literally heals the hormone production and regulation. I’d say give it 3 cycles at least.

I’ve done masses and masses of research and there is no doubt that what we eat has a fundamental effect on our hormones.

mooncuplanding · 06/10/2018 09:31

Mallap

So sorry you are in that awful place that you rationally know is wrong but feel powerless to do anything about it in the moment

I’m not saying keto will cure you, but when I say I used to be the same right down to the loneliness and sugar binges, I mean it!

Do some research on low carb high fat, get to grips with how food interacts with hormones. You’ll see it’s bloody obvious when you look into it. The rage I feel now is that I suffered for so long being given shit advice.

titsbumfannythelot · 06/10/2018 09:46

@mooncuplanding do you know how keto is different to lchf, if at all? I'm certain I'm in for an early menopause and wanted to start lchf after holiday this month. I've also had some mid month bleeding recently- sorry if tmi.

Gnomesofthegalaxy · 06/10/2018 09:58

Yep I'm the same, just had a blissful escape during pregnancy but they're back with a vengeance. Screaming at my partner, rage over nothing, nausea, headaches, exhaustion where I can feel myself being dragged to the ground almost (so weird, can't really explain that one to people but far beyond normal tiredness), hysterical sobbing and anxiety.... The list goes on.

I've attempted keto before as have a big interest in Nutrition and impact of diet, but I have no willpower, especially when I have raging PMT Sad

Need to have another go as I definitely think it works

mooncuplanding · 06/10/2018 10:10

Titsbu

Keto is LCHF

The only thing I’d say is that keto does say to limit your carbs to 20g max per day to make sure you are fat adapted

The danger is if your carbs aren’t low enough that you will be stuck in no mans land where you don’t have enough carbs for fuel and you are not fat adapted...bringing on exhaustion

I’d personally aim for below 20g of carbs for at least the first month until you can feel you are fat adapted ( less appetite, more energy) then go from there.
I prob eat about 20-50g of carbs a day now, but I don’t track it anymore, I’ve gone intuitive 😀😀

mooncuplanding · 06/10/2018 10:14

You still do get PMT cravings on keto....of a sort...

I’ve aceepted I need to eat more in that week, so I do

If i get a chocolate craving and eat some 80-90% dark chocolate. Apparently it’s the magnesium we crave, not the sugar!

Branleuse · 06/10/2018 10:14

Depending on your age and other symptoms. You might find benefit from a low dose of HRT if you can get a doctor to prescribe
