To think pmt like this isn't normal?

mallap345 · 06/10/2018 08:23

I'm 33 and my pmt is out of control.
10 days before my period I'm out of control.
Extreme tiredness where I'm exhausted getting out of bed.
Really sore boobs and hot sweats,I literally drip in sweat, palpitations and the mood swings are so bad,I'm so angry,I've grabbed my boyfriend by the face and actually have thoughts about punching him.
I'm so angry and then I will cry all the time, hysterically cry.
I've punched myself before and I think about just escaping life because I can't cope ..as soon as my period starts it all goes and I'm back to normal.
My doctor is no help at all.
My period isn't due for 9 days and yesterday I was out of control.
Screaming, throwing things then crying, hot sweats and palpitations.
I take evening primrose oil but no help.
My doctor won't even check my hormone levels as my periods are regular.
My thyroid is fine.
I can't stand my life this way.

It sounds like PMDD. Do a little research online about it and then find another doctor for help.

collywobble · 06/10/2018 10:24

Maca Root , Agnus Cactus, Vitamin b6 and evening primrose oil , magnesium all really helped me . I stopped taking the Agnus Cactus a couple of months ago and boy did I know it ! . It's a horrible thing to live with as there just isn't an easy way to get it right . Your symptoms sound exactly the same as mine . I went low carb and it didn't work out but exercise definitely helps me and cutting out caffeine completely worked too .
I was considering hrt but now these supplements and changes are in place it feels much more manageable. Hope you get some relief with it

I've just had a awful spell.
Missed heartbeats started,I was sweating and shaking and started screaming..my heart was racing and now that's stopped but I'm so tired.
I'm honestly sick of my "life"

Im Like this, except with extreme depression and migraines added in. I have to remain on birth control or i can’t function.
Up to 10 days and then it’s like a seitch has bern flicked and i’m fine again.

mallap345 · 06/10/2018 13:20

God it's awful isn't it.
I didn't think it would affect so many people.

I started tracking my cycle for the only reason of being able to warn people, in advance, that I'm likely to turn into a crazy, psychotic bitch! It horrendous, and like you I really do believe I could commit murder. 7 days out of every month is wasted, I can't concentrate, I think that everyone is trying to fuck me over, I'm useless at work, I hate my partner and then there's the rage Angry. I'm going to try the keto diet based on pp.

MissusGeneHunt · 06/10/2018 17:59

@mallap345 - about two or three people on here have mentioned PMDD - please check that out (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). Good luck, I feel your pain. Flowers

I went to the doctors for years with awful rage inducing pmt and was fobbed off, patronized and ignored. Eventually saw a woman doctor and had an MRI a week later. Was a slow growing brain tumour. Easily fixed with drugs, but I had years of misery which I didn't have to have if they'd just listened to me and stopped saying pmt was fucking natural and telling me to basically suck it up. If it's a 'women only' issue they really don't care. But something like male impotency and they're all bloody on it!

mallap345 · 06/10/2018 21:12

That's awful ...I hope your ok now.
I've stopped going to the doctors now,I'm sick of them trying to make me out to be neurotic.

Could you try going on the pill?
I'd suggest also not seeing your bf during this time of the month as it's not fair on him

Wordy15 · 31/12/2018 14:01

Following too and would love to support on this.

40 years old and 3 year old twin boys.
Normal stresses of that aside(!) I spend 1 week of every month in a paranoid, blubbing, anxious PMT mess. I can't face anyone or anything which makes family life with 2 little ones very difficult.

Have been tracking it all with the CLUE app on iphone. I take vitamins and am not on the pill. Having hormones tested next month. I lost my dad to alcohol when I was 21 and have suffered anxiety since then due to that but I'm slowly realising though tracking it all that it's more likely to be due to PMT. Would have thought even hormones from a twin pregnancy would have settled by now. Could be peri-menopause. I have Agnus Cactus so trying that next.

I read a blog last year by a woman who suffered in a similar way. It's not me and I hope it's OK to share the link but she recommends vitamin b6. I told my friend about it who had terrible pmt and it's literally changed her life. You can buy it in H&B. Worth a try I reckon. www.brummymummyof2.co.uk/2018/05/i-can-finally-breathe.html?m=1

Bambamber · 31/12/2018 14:10

I agree with pp suggesting PMDD

Wordy15 · 02/01/2019 13:57

Thanks MaverickSnoopy, great article.
Apparently for PMS you can take 50-100 mg of Vit B6 daily.
I've been taking Wellwoman Max vitamins and they only have 8mg of Vitamin B6 in them so I've ordered the 50mg from Holland and Barratt and will take them on top and see if it helps.

It sounds like you have a major hormonal imbalance. If your go won’t give you a test have a look at medichecks.co.uk they have doctors who will discuss your results with you if needed. It’s a test you do at home. I’ve had a few tests from them and can’t fault them.

Definitely look into changing your diet, I used to have symptoms, all be it nothing like yours but I had read that the more intense the symptoms the body is out of sync. It’s always so shocking to women when they hear it’s not supposed to be uncomfortable! I didn’t believe it a first either.

I have no dairy or meat (added hormone in the body) and I have no refined sugars and very minimal fruit intake in the month. I also have no more than 25g of sugar per day ideally 15g. I do make sure to eat plenty of protein (I do this according to my weight so I don’t get too much or too little) You can also eat according to your cycle (there’s four phases and what you eat is slightly different during each stage) I also take supplements to ensure I have balance of nutrients and minerals which also helps everything.

There are certain foods to avoid and one of them is Soya, it increases estrogen levels which in turn makes the pmt a whole lot worse! Typically it is excess estrogen that causes pmt, you can reduce estrogen by taking milk thistle. But do research into ways that you’d find most suitable for you as there are loads out there.

Have a look on Dr Mercola for help and also mind body green for natural tips, that aren’t going to negatively affect the hormones further in the long run.

I hope this helps, and doesn’t sound so hippie. I always look to the more alternative options as I feel they’re most gentle on the body.

Good luck! x

BF888 · 03/01/2019 01:13

I forgot to add that if you’re on the pill or have an implant. Have a look at some other options as I don’t think it will be helping. X
