... to be ridiculously excited about my new dishwasher?

We moved into our house almost a year ago and finally have got round to arranging/been able to afford a dishwasher. It's arriving on Wednesday and I actually feel like I'm waiting for Christmas. We had one in our last house and being without has made me realise how much I despise washing dishes and the inevitable pile on the side because neither of us seem to be capable of just washing something when we've finished using it.

Regale me with tales of how much you love your dishwasher.

@trojanpony What does putting salt in it do? I've always used the All in One tabs?

LaurieMarlow · 11/10/2018 09:07

I loved mine so much we got two when put in a new kitchen.

I am living the dream I am. Grin

Oooh interesting thread as we've moved into a house with an ancient dishwasher with no instructions (and apparently nowhere to put the salt??!) and the shortest cycle is 2 and a half hours.

It's going. Angry

But clear something up for me, dishwasher gurus..... Is a short cycle good enough? My friend has been muttering darkly about short cycles being "useless" and "unless you want them to still have bits of food on them, you have to go at least an hour and a half"

Surely that's a load of bollocks in this day and age?

trojanpony · 11/10/2018 10:49

@tinselangel it means you don’t get limescale.
I have all in one capsules but use salt too as I live in a hard water area. the heat means the heating element would get all limescaley and stop working as well Shock and the inside would get all crusty too.

because I’m a weirdo I love filling it up. There’s a cap at the bottom which you take off and it has water in the salt reserve and you put this plastic funnel in that looks like a hat and top it up with a giant bag of salt being verrry careful not to over pour (it’s a skill Wink)

Salt is for if you have hard water I think. We have soft water so don't need it.

The one-hour cycle will probably be pretty good on an older dishwasher. New dishwashers tend to have long cycles as tiger default because of energy and water efficiency. We always used the one-hour cycle on our ancient dishwasher and it was fine for everyday stuff. The only exception would be pots and things with stuck/burned on food.

Our new one came with a little dipstick to test the hardness of the water, which was oddly satisfying (and a bit like doing a pregnancy test!)

My mind has been blown...

blue interior lighting like the lighting in toilets in dodgy areas that discourages drug taking as you can’t see your veins

I never knew that!

Dishwasher drawers are even better!

Googled them - how brilliant do they look?!?!

RangeRider · 11/10/2018 10:55

Where's the picture?! You tell us you have a cutlery drawer and yet you don't show us?!!!! Angry

Oh I am envious! That is clever. Assuming they've designed it right you should get lovely clean cutlery every time even if you have loads. You lucky, lucky creature!

bettybyebye · 11/10/2018 11:07

Oh I am so jealous. I am trying to persuade DH that we should extend our kitchen, mainly so we can fit in a dishwasher! I am so sick of pots!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 11/10/2018 11:10

oooh look at the pully out drawer!
It's like the dark ages in my house I have to tumble the big utensils over the cups like a savage!

I use salt in mine even though we have soft water, I am sure I read somewhere it's best to do this, as it helps with keeping food particles from clogging up the works.
Besides which, mine has a very annoying red light on it if it wants something which I cannot bear so I use salt.

Claude is beautiful Grin
