... to be ridiculously excited about my new dishwasher?

We moved into our house almost a year ago and finally have got round to arranging/been able to afford a dishwasher. It's arriving on Wednesday and I actually feel like I'm waiting for Christmas. We had one in our last house and being without has made me realise how much I despise washing dishes and the inevitable pile on the side because neither of us seem to be capable of just washing something when we've finished using it.

Regale me with tales of how much you love your dishwasher.

I love finding new things that aren't dishes to put through it and come out all sparkly and new - dustpan and brush, anyone? Don't try flower pots - the spray arms get blocked with soil

HidingFromMyKids · 05/10/2018 23:55

I have a tiny kitchen

4 cupboards
So cleaning, pans, plates/bowls/glasses and dried foods/tins.

I still ripped a cupboard out and sacrificed it for a slimline dishwasher. It's not even next to the sink so had to do lots of magic pipework. Still worth it Grin

youngestisapsycho · 06/10/2018 00:00

Dishwasher drawers are even better! I really want them...

bellsbuss · 06/10/2018 00:02

We have 2 Blush they weren't expensive though as we got a good deal on our appliances when we changed our kitchen. Think we paid £350 for both, with our old kitchen I would load the dishwasher but would still have crockery and glasses which wouldn't go in as there are 6 of us. Best decision I ever made even though 99% of the time it's me emptying them.

Thewindsofchange · 06/10/2018 00:07

You are me a couple of weeks ago! I can't tell you how long I'd been waiting to get one. I'm soooo happy Grin

Plus I can make dishwasher vodka now!

TheSheepofWallSt · 06/10/2018 00:13

@TinselAngel

In exactly the same circumstances, that’s exactly what I have just done for my 31st! 1 month to go, and I get the gifts of TIME and DIGNITY (is there anything less dignified than slopping foody, sudsy water down your front when you drop a pan in the sink?!) in dishwasher form!

Titsywoo · 06/10/2018 00:22

Dishwashers are amazing. We're about to build a utility room so we're moving the washing machine out of the kitchen. I'm putting a 2nd dishwasher in the free space Blush. I should never have stuff piling up in the sink when I'm too lazy to unload ever again!

RB68 · 06/10/2018 00:22

I wanted a dishwasher - no money - so went second hand and got a slimline for the only spot we could put it - I took out the main standard drawers set so had to find new homes for cling film and foil, tea towels, baking stuff and the cutlery!!! 18mths later it died....2 yrs later I have today ordered a brad new one - can't bloody wait

AndBabyMakes3 · 06/10/2018 01:07

My dream build home shall have not one but two dishwashers - load one up and stick it on, then as you use those dishes directly out of the dishwasher you place the dirty ones in the 2nd until that is full...and repeat...reducing the need for storage cupboards and also great for parties/large gatherings in the house... neither me nor DH could agree on washing up (both hate it, I would happily leave it build up so as to only face one giant load whereas he would wash 2 plates to have the dishes 'done') so when we moved into our current house having one dishwasher definitely contributed a lot of value to our marriage!!

PlainVanilla · 06/10/2018 03:48

Dishwashers are worth their weight in gold as they enable you to have a relatively tidy kitchen for most of the time, are more hygienic than washing up and drying by hand and most modern ones are very energy and water efficient.

catlady3 · 06/10/2018 13:02

My mum used to put our toothbrushes in the dishwasher! I don't know if that's necessarily great for you, but they did come out clean ;-)

Candymay · 06/10/2018 16:12

I absolutely love my dishwasher. Bosch for me too. I recommend people rip out a cupboard and make space if you don’t have one. It’s one of the best appliances ever! Life changing. Good luck with yours. Def YANBU

bakingdemon · 06/10/2018 16:24

When we moved house last year we got a full size one (having had a dinky one before) and I love it. I didn't realise until we used it the first time that it has this fancy feature where it projects the time left on the cycle onto the floor. I pointed it out to ALL my friends Grin

Funnyface1 · 06/10/2018 16:31

Yanbu. It's priceless. The time it saves me is terrific. Me and dh always say it's the best thing we ever bought, after our house.

poppy196 · 06/10/2018 16:46

Dishwashers are fantastic, congratulations on your new buy .You won't regret buying it ever .
We have had one for years as I was so pissed of with dirty dishes on worktops waiting to be washed and now I just stack it all in dishwasher .
I now have an odd one of husband suddenly decided to wash every thing by hand 🙄I don't understand it at all , I load the dishwasher and then take dog out after tea and when I get back he has taken everything out and washed it by hand and dried it and put away .
I don't understand it at all as we just let dishwasher do it's job before.
The most odd thing is he only ever does this while I'm out .
I did question it but he said he likes to do it by hand 😁
Well he never sodding washed up by hand before .

AgentJohnson · 06/10/2018 17:12

I’m moving in less than three weeks and a dishwasher is on my list. We will also be getting a dryer (which I’m less excited about) because the new place has underfloor heating and no radiators but the solar panels on the roof makes me feel less guilty about running it. However, the dishwasher will be my first love.

Celebelly · 10/10/2018 17:49

It's here and the first wash is on! I am on tenterhooks!

We changed to a slim one when we put our new kitchen in... it’s still great tho... there are 4 of us.... there’s always room for a dishwasher!

TinselAngel · 10/10/2018 23:03

Congratulations on your new arrival Cele!

Pickupthephone · 10/10/2018 23:07

YANBU, I love mine so so much.

Weirdly, I fear my dishwasher breaking far more than I fear my washing machine breaking. I guess because I can go a few days without needing to use the washing machine!

Nichelette · 10/10/2018 23:14

I have dishwasher envy! We're moving soon and are so desperate for one we're probably going to take out a cupboard to accommodate a (slimline) one. Wish we had space for a full sized one.

Pickupthephone · 10/10/2018 23:21

Ps. My MiL hates dishwashers. She still believes the whole ‘you have to rinse stuff’ thing. Her way of using them is to rinse everything first, then load them, then cut a tab in half, then put the dishwasher on a quick cycle.

Last time she was here she did that to ours - I nearly cried - poor dishwasher!

Ploppymoodypants · 10/10/2018 23:25

I have just got my first one at nearly 40 years of age. I LOVE it sooo much. It has completely changed my life.
I now understand how people can have a clean tidy kitchen. It’s brilliant. It’s DD job to empty it before breakfast, And anything anyone uses goes in it. It’s a marvel and really has changed my domestic life 😁

trojanpony · 11/10/2018 08:02

YANBU
It will change your life. I love love LOVE 💕 my dishwasher and treat her gently.
Lots of salt and she gets a fancy dishwashing cleaner pack every 6 months.

It makes the kitchen look so clean and there’s no sloshing about near the sink and wiping things down all the time.

the only fly in the ointment is DP who insists on washing up. whhhhhhy?!

Honestly, you probably could pay me to get rid of it but I’d need about a grand a month and I’d continually complain about the emotional distress it’s loss has induced 😂

VenelopeVonSweetz · 11/10/2018 08:03

YANBU.

A dishwasher is my dream!

Enjoy it!
