Why did Theresa May come in moving to Dancing Queen?

Was it supposed to be self-deprecating humour after that video of her dancing with the schoolkids? Or why?

Two things

  1. Where was Anton?
  2. It should have been SOS by Abba
Rudi44 · 04/10/2018 07:10

It’s to take people’s minds off the fact that everything that comes out of her mouth is BS. I loathe the woman, but look at the headlines, most of it has been about her so called ‘dancing’ rather than policy.
She looked like a fucking idiot

HurricaneFloss · 04/10/2018 07:15

It's a shame some people don't recognise the difficult and painstaking job she has to do, with everyone on her back, whinging about whatever she does

We do recognise it - and the absolute mess she is making of it. We're on her back because she risks destroying our country.

She didn't have to trigger Article 50. She could have set up a cross party group to look into the best way forward for GB and work with the EU instead of pissing them off.

mellongoose · 04/10/2018 07:22

I think she did good. She's got the hardest job in politics at the moment. She normally doesn't play to the media and they give her a hard time because of it.

I believe the austerity comment needs to ge taken in context. For all you instant gratification social media people. In real life these things take time. Investment will come I have no doubt. I'm sure opinions will differ, but I'm entitled to mine.

I was pleased to see politicians talking up Britain and everything we have to offer. Makes a change!! I particularly liked Geoffrey Cox's intro. Bloody brilliant.

WhoWants2Know · 04/10/2018 07:26

I work to support some of the people worst affected by her policies, and I felt horrified. It's that "I'm alright Jack" attitude that she and the rest of the wealthy have while PIP and ESA cuts are actually killing people and Universal Credit is leaving working people homeless.

At another time it might have been a funny two fingers up, but right now it makes me sick.

TeddyIsaHe · 04/10/2018 07:28

mellon people have actually died from her austerity cuts, so yeah, I would like some fast action to rectify that.

Nenic · 04/10/2018 07:30

I think Jeremy Corbyn at festivals is more cringe tbh

Peregrina · 04/10/2018 07:46

I was about to come on to say much the same. She's doing her best, but her best isn't what is needed by the country at the moment. I thought that from the first PMQs she took, where she took a confrontational stance. The country desperately needed a reconciler and healer, not someone who makes worthy statements, and then does the complete opposite.

Ellisandra · 04/10/2018 08:01

Walking on to Dancing Queen would have been an amusing self deprecating nod to her lack of dancing ability.

Actually “dancing” to it was a left footed step too far, and showed that her adviser (and May herself) have no idea. Just embarrassing.

desertmum · 04/10/2018 08:10

I like the fact she can laugh at herself. I also think she's in a no win situation. All the leavers ran a mile when it actually came about and didn't want to handle the exit despite arguing for it prior to the vote. She didn't want to leave but is trying to sort out the shit Johnson and all the other twats got us into with their lies and rubbish leave campaign shit that people fell for.

The country voted, she picked up the baton. Now we have to live with it.

(No, I didn't vote for her btw).

WhoWants2Know · 04/10/2018 08:18

"Living with it" doesn't mean shutting up and being happy about it.

trancepants · 04/10/2018 08:19

May basically said a no deal Brexit will be fine. Japanese business groups have made it clear they are now preparing to leave Britain. Arlene Foster heavily implied/threatened a return to loyalist paramilitary violence with her 'blood red line' comment. But people are talking about a stupid 45 second dance.

That's why.

Spreadingcudweed · 04/10/2018 08:23

I thought it was ill-advised. A self-deprecating sense of humour is all well and good but the car crash that is Brexit is no dancing matter!

Peridot1 · 04/10/2018 08:26

Utterly cringey.

She is the bloody PM God help us all. She has back stabbers trying to unseat her. Brexit is a total total shambles. Her interview with Andrew Marr where he was asking about the border issue in NI was just appalling.

And she thinks dancing on to the stage at the party conference was appropriate. God help us all.

And the alternatives are even worse.

HurricaneFloss · 04/10/2018 08:34

Fortunately, that isn't how democracy works.

rogueantimatter · 04/10/2018 08:58

aintnothinbutaheartache

Re austerity and the deficit/national debt. Levels of personal debt have never been higher. It's a ticking time bomb. Our GDP has grown less than that of our equivalents in EU. and student loans are not included in the national debt, as the student loans companies are private. Councils are being taken to court for failing to provide services that they are legally obliged to provide.

Teachers are leaving in droves as they are being asked to do an impossible job and doctors are leaving the NHS for the same reason.

It's a scandal that the conservative leaders arrogantly assumed that the EU vote would be to remain, didn't run a good campaign then ran away from the disaster they had created. They made no contingency plan for the event of a leave vote. . Still didn't have a plan when they triggered the leaving process. Appear to be making a hash of the negotiations.

They have done very little to bring the bankers who caused the crash to justice, almost nothing about the housing crisis.

It's beyond me how anyone can defend the conservative party.

IdahoCrow · 04/10/2018 09:45

Her best frankly isn't good enough

MargoLovebutter · 04/10/2018 09:57

I was really torn. On the one hand, it showed that she or someone in her team has a sense of humour and wanted to give the two fingers to all the critics.

On the other hand it just didn't look prime ministerial. She should be leading the country not dancing with it or at it.

Many Brits look like upturned mops when they try and dance - which is fine if they are at a family wedding or nine sheets to the wind in a nightclub, but not good if they are representing their country in some capacity. It is as though as soon as the music comes on, their bodies are filled with long porcelain poles that they mustn't break at all costs. Just don't do it!!!!! Stand and admire those who can, smile and nod but don't bloody try and dance.

However, I can remember literally nothing else about her speech, so I imagine the clever political pundits behind the scenes have scored a point at her and my expense!

FinnegansWhiskers · 04/10/2018 10:33

We do recognise it - and the absolute mess she is making of it. We're on her back because she risks destroying our country

Ah well I'm sure that pillock, Corbyn, would have done a lot worse. Where is he BTW? Still hiding?
Never mind Boris could take the leadership soon. I'm sure he'll get the country back on its feet... and pigs will fly Hmm

May or Boris? No contest!

bridgetoc · 04/10/2018 13:25

May or Boris? No contest!

I agree....... If there was a leadership contest and it was between May and Boris the Conservative party faithful would vote for Johnson. It would be a landslide, no contest.

The problem for Boris is getting enough votes from his fellow MP'S so that he could be one of the last two.

ZenNudist · 04/10/2018 13:31

I hate TM but i thought this was a confident start to her speech and a marked contrast from last year. It goes to show how inconsistent she is. I didn't judge too harshly as you have to remember the audience are all Tory supporters. Its not like she danced onstage to addess an EU summit or a foodbank charity. I think she is trying to put on a brave and bold front to "fake it to make it".

citiesofbismuth · 04/10/2018 14:02

It feels like they're taking the piss out of the population by doing things like this.

I went into town the other day and was genuinely shocked by the number of homeless people there were and people who were off their faces on drugs. The country is in trouble and the Tories don't give a shit and I'm saying that as a non leftie.

IdahoCrow · 04/10/2018 14:10

The PM dances while Britain drowns in the wrong kind of Spice

JellyBears · 04/10/2018 14:28

I think she’s fab,

yesyesyess · 04/10/2018 18:27

Love her. You go girl! Boris had a chance to be PM but his balls retracted back into their sack. You whiners have no solution except you want a money pot for everyone. Well I'm sick of being taxed to death so good on the party!
