To not bath my kids every day?

I have a 2 year old and an almost 5 year old. DH works away a lot and I'm finding the whole daily schedule so tough on my own. I bath them both every day at the moment, but I'm wondering, would it be wrong of me to skip the odd bath now & then? DD1 is an exceptionally clean kid, DD2 not so much. But DD2 gets baby wiped within an inch of her life after every meal because of all the mess she makes.

How often do you bath your kids? Would not bathing them daily be wrong of me?

Face and hands and down below bits daily. Everything else can go days!

Orangecake123 · 04/10/2018 17:18

I only used to have a bath once a week on Sundays. Grin

Always bathed my son everyday but never wash fruit and veg

My children have a quick shower twice or so a week. DD tends to wriggle a bit I’ve noticed whenever I try doing it for her so now I supervise her efforts to clean herself properly instead. I also encourage her to assist DS with getting in and out of the bathtub as well. My job is to promote their independence and proper bathroom hygiene skills as well.

YANBU. I bath my 4 yo and 5 month old every other day.
My 4 yo would have a bath or wipe down with mitt or quick shower every day during the heatwave though.

I'm not sure what the connection is Grin but in the event of having to make a choice, after working around the FDA in a satellite context for a few years and learned quite a lot about pesticides and herbicides in fresh produce these days, I'd leave the kids dirty and wash the fruit and veg! Grin

I try and get away with bathing as little as possible!!! In the summer when it was hot DD always seemed to have been 'putting dirt sun cream on in the mud kitchen' or similar, so bathed most days then. But this week they had a bath Sunday night, then Wednesday night.Blush we aren't a very clean family lol.

maggienolia · 04/10/2018 19:20

I autoclave both of my DDs. 121 degrees C for 30 minutes does it.
And their sheets and pyjamas go on the shelves too.
I'm saving up for a bigger model that I can fit their mattresses in.

MilkRunningOutAgain · 04/10/2018 19:25

I bathed my PFB daily until he was out of nappies, then every 2-3 days. I started bathing my DD daily too but this came to a rapid halt within a week or so as she had bad eczema. She bathed only every week or so, but washed daily wherever needed! Agree that sun cream means they need more baths!

IAmMumWho · 04/10/2018 19:29

I don't bath mine everyday.

Pebblespony · 04/10/2018 19:34

We were specifically told by the midwife in the hospital and again by the health visitor to not bath our newborn every day. They both said it was a fad. I'm in Ireland though. Maybe we're more relaxed here. Every night seems mad.

straightjeans · 04/10/2018 19:46

Whatever happened to filling a bowl or bathroom sink with soapy water and wiping yourself down?

Alicatz66 · 04/10/2018 20:56

I shower twice every day .. when my kids were little I bathed them everyday .. they are now grown up and shower every day ... it's just hygiene ... it's nice to feel and smell fresh ... but as usual the cool moms don't mind if their children stink and share food with the dog for the health of their immune systems .. guess I'm old and out of touch ..

Seniorcitizen1 · 04/10/2018 21:24

bettedaviseyes it refers to another post about whether people eash their fruit and veg

SmartyPants0 · 04/10/2018 21:33

Wow... my children are in their early 20's and I bathed them every night until they were old enough to do it themselves. They still bathe/shower daily now... I have a shower every day sometimes twice. I'm suprised how many people don't bathe.

Childrenofthesun · 04/10/2018 21:38

Mine are 6 & 8 and bath or shower every other day.

I am 40 and also shower every other day (gasp).

All these hot baths and showers must be giving some people huge energy bills.

annikin · 04/10/2018 21:42

3 per week at that age. Now DD becoming a teenager, every day before school (but obviously doesn't need my help!)

Lweji · 04/10/2018 21:46

I autoclave both of my DDs. 121 degrees C for 30 minutes does it.
Now we're talking. Star

Lweji · 04/10/2018 21:51

DS never really let any food go to waste, so apart from washing his bum at nappy changes, he didn't really need anything else. And smelled great. As babies do. Not of soap.

Spinningteapots · 04/10/2018 22:36

My kids get a bath about once a week unless they've been rolling around in mud or something. I don't think it's too healthy to be washing young skin too frequently. Will be a bit different once they get old.

Cumbrianlass66 · 04/10/2018 22:59

Kindnessplease

I only do my dd every 2/3 days. She has eczema so it's better for her.

This as advise by my GP both had eczema. Bathing every day dries their skin out.

squaddiemrs · 05/10/2018 00:06

I try to bath my toddler every day but for toddlers who hate bathtime it's not easy! I did find this blogpost with good ideas on how to get your tots in the bath, but tbh I'm more relaxed now it's colder as she's not sweating or playing outside as much! www.mummykind.com/2018/08/bath-boohoos-to-bath-wahoos.html

Itsnotabingthingisit · 05/10/2018 10:49

Friday, Sunday, Tuesday for my 5 year old. She does after school activities Weds, Thurs which leaves no time for a bath. Wipe round of the bits and pieces other nights, hands washed and face washed every night.

Teeth brushed every morning and night, but that's pretty standard I think. ( Although it can last no more a minute most times)

She also goes swimming on Thursday, does that count?

starlord84 · 05/10/2018 11:26

I used to bathe my son daily he used to suffer with bad eczema and I would put creams on him and try and keep him clean then one day my friend said "stop bathing him he's too clean". So I did. And his eczema completely cleared up! Now I bathe him about 2 or 3 times a week, every Sunday and Wednesday and if he's had a particularly dirty day then I do it then aswell. He is fine and his germs are breeding nicely :) :)
