To ask for you not to let your dog...

Zillcat · 03/10/2018 10:55

Lick my feet in the queue at the vets.

Queuing to take poorly cat to see the vet.

Cat is obviously unhappy and crying, receptionist is obviously new and taking their time in learning their job.

Why does the guy in front think that I want their excitable dog to jump up me whilst I hold the cat carrier and then laugh when the dog licks my foot?

WIBU when I told him to get control of his dog and that I don't find it funny? According to this moronic guy, I should expect this at the vets.

Sorry, angry and tired and could do without arguments today.

No the dog shouldn’t have been licking your foot, however was it your actual foot or your shoe?

Zillcat · 03/10/2018 10:59

Actual foot, wearing ballet type flat shoes with leggings.

Not ok, must have been gross and I say that as a past dog owner. Was there any chance you’d dropped something on your foot though? Hope kitty is better ASAP.

EnglishRose1320 · 03/10/2018 11:02

I had a dog jump up and lick my shoulder outside my ds' school yesterday and felt incredibly annoyed, I don't like dogs at the best of times, I certainly don't like dog owners who don't control their dogs.
You have every right to be annoyed and it's not the kind of thing you expect whilst waiting for the vet.

FairfaxAikman · 03/10/2018 11:37

I've got a dog which lives to lick everything but I sure as hell wouldn't let her lick your feet ... I don't know where you've been Grin

CalamityJane10 · 03/10/2018 11:44

If the man and dog were already there, why did you decide to stand so close to them that the dog could jump up at you and then lick your foot? Especially bad idea if you’re carrying a distressed cat and don’t like dogs.

The man should have had the dog on a tight lead, but equally if you stand really close to a dog then you risk it...behaving like a dog.

onedayiwillmissthis · 03/10/2018 11:52

Yep. Don't stand so close to other patients and their owners if you don't want 'interaction'😁

quarterpast · 03/10/2018 12:09

At least you didn't get pee'd on, look on the bright side OP 😄

Belina · 03/10/2018 12:20

Vets should have a dog and cat area most I go to do usually but some dont.
Hope your kitty is okay

LakieLady · 03/10/2018 12:21

Both my current dog and her predecessor have been foot lickers. It's bloody embarrassing.

If we're in a queue or something, I keep her on a very short lead, so she can't do it, but there have been other occasions where people have stood nearby without me realising and she's managed to sneak a couple of toe-licks before I've had a chance of stopping her. Thankfully, most people are ok with it and find it funny, and a couple have even said it's nice!

Previous dog not only licked feet, but used to love putting his cold, wet nose on the back of people's bare legs. Going out with him in the summer, when people are in shorts, required constant vigilance. I swear he thought it was amusing to make people jump.

AngelsSins · 03/10/2018 12:23

I think you’re being a bit precious. Yes, it may not have been nice, and no, on principal, you have the right to personal space, but of all the deeply unpleasant, dangerous and scary things that can happen to you in this world, a dog licking your foot is hardly something worth getting worked up over.

I’m sure not everyone approves of things your cat might do - but that’s animals for you, they aren’t robots.

CarolDanvers · 03/10/2018 12:23

it's not the kind of thing you expect whilst waiting for the vet.

Maybe you should? Given that it’s an animal focussed location.

KaosReigns · 03/10/2018 12:39

Yanbu but while you're at it can you ask people to stop letting my dog lick them? Whenever she meets someone I tell her not to lick and they bloody well say it's ok and stick their hands by her mouth. Makes it damn near impossible to train a compulsive licker.

lovechocolates · 03/10/2018 12:48

Could've been worse.. Could've been an aggressive dog. This wouldn't bother me at all and I'd just laugh it off.

Littlejayx · 03/10/2018 12:57

What a thing to take time out of your life to post about 😂

If it happens agaib, Just step two steps back, make it abit jazzy, turn it in to a dance, will snap you right out of your mood ☺️

DeltaZulu89 · 03/10/2018 13:09

Ooft. Yabu. It’s a lick on the foot, he didn’t chew your leg off.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 03/10/2018 13:14

Our vet has separate cat/dog waiting areas which seems to work well. A little lick on the foot isn't the end of the world though, more something to laugh off.

CloudCaptain · 03/10/2018 13:18

Oh dear. I'm not great fan of dogs (or cats) which are not perfectly behaved. I don't like being licked either, but these things happen and are most likely to happen in a vets.
I thought this was going to be a controversial thread about dog poo or letting uncontrollable dogs run about off lead terrorising all and sundry, knocking toddlers and elderly over, causing sheep to miscarry. I'm so disappointed in you Op.

Zillcat · 03/10/2018 14:21

For PP's...
I was a good enough distance away, the dog was on a retractable lead but was being allowed to freely roam. Couldn't move backwards as another dog owner behind me.

I had nothing on my foot to be licked off Confused

No separate dog and cat reception... only one slow receptionist.

Considering dogs lick their own backsides I don't really want a dog doing that to me.

I'm not a fan of dogs since being bitten as a child so this post took my mind off that whilst sitting in a packed waiting room and the difficult conversations regarding my old darling cat.

Wheresthel1ght · 03/10/2018 14:37

Yanbu and I would be saying the same to him and I am a dog owner. There is no excuse to allow your dog to wander out of control anywhere let alone at the vets.

misscockerspaniel · 03/10/2018 15:02

YANBU. He was being a twat for using a retractable lead. And his reaction was bang out of order.

Junkmail · 03/10/2018 15:04

People behave very oddly at the vets. I think some of them forget that some people may be there because their animals are really sick and they don’t want strange dogs approaching or trying to engage. The people who walk through the waiting room with retractable leads unlocked or the dog owners who sit in the cats only section are the worst. Have a word with the receptionists about it although if they’re like my vets they’re probably sick of saying the same thing over and over to insensitive customers.

WorriesGalore · 03/10/2018 16:48

Oh do get over it. Yes, he was being unreasonable but this incident is not a huge shock.

LARLARLAND · 03/10/2018 16:51

Going to the vets is stressful for animals and their owners. I tense up at the thought of it!

flumpybear · 03/10/2018 16:56

Ug! I bloody hate dog owners who think everyone loves dogs jumping up and kicking people - fucking train them! Or control them!

I love dogs ... have cats as our lifestyle doesn't cater for a dog but I would bloody control them, as I have in the past - it's the same as allowing your cat to jump
On the lap if people or your parrot sitting in anybody's shoulder just because it's a vet - not ok!!
