To ask for you not to let your dog...

Lick my feet in the queue at the vets.

Queuing to take poorly cat to see the vet.

Cat is obviously unhappy and crying, receptionist is obviously new and taking their time in learning their job.

Why does the guy in front think that I want their excitable dog to jump up me whilst I hold the cat carrier and then laugh when the dog licks my foot?

WIBU when I told him to get control of his dog and that I don't find it funny? According to this moronic guy, I should expect this at the vets.

Sorry, angry and tired and could do without arguments today.

Yabu. It's a lick - you could've moved your foot away from the dog - it definitely would've sniffed before it licked anyway.

Jaxhog · 03/10/2018 17:08

YANBU. Unfortunately there are selfish twats everywhere. Including the vets. I wish our vet had a dog v. everthing else area, but I doubt people would respect that.

Locandi · 03/10/2018 17:27

He sounds like a dick but you sound a bit precious. If that had been my dog I’d have pulled it back, apologised and rolled my eyes when you weren’t looking.

I used to puppy walk for Guide Dogs and was doing train familiarisation with my (enormous) puppy, he was lying under the seats out of the way on an almost empty train and I was thinking what a good boy he was being when all of a sudden the lady two rows in front burst out laughing - he had managed to stretch far enough to wrap his tongue round her foot. She very kindly saw the funny side, I was mortified!

DeathyMcDeathStarFace · 03/10/2018 18:05

Uurgh, tell him off and tell him off again if he doesn't listen. Not everyone wants his slobbery dog licking them, me included. (And I used to have a dog)

We he was about 2 or 3 DS2 was licked on the face by a dog outside school. Within minutes of returning home his face was all swollen, he went to sleep and couldn't be woken and had a massively high temperature. NHS Direct (about 12 years ago) sent an ambulance out for him. He'd had an allergic reaction, possibly to the dog or to something on its tongue. He's definitely not allergic to dogs now and it's happened again while in the garden so it looks like it was something on the dog's tongue he reacted to. So there are plenty of reasons to make your dog keep his tongue to himself.

YABU. Not worth getting upset about.

Observatorycrest · 03/10/2018 18:15

YANBU we don’t have a separate cat and dog area in our vets but if I see a cat I take my dog and sit as far as possible as they can distress they cats.

albert92 · 03/10/2018 19:00

My dog always acts weird/ over excited and unpredictable at the vets due to excitement or being around other dogs but I would apologize if my dog did that but it's not really a big deal in my eyes I wouldn't care if that happened to me

Purpleartichoke · 03/10/2018 19:15

Owner should control his dog. It’s not that difficult. Just takes actually paying attention.

Booboostwo · 03/10/2018 20:10

Come on, seriously? Are you looking for something to complain about? It was a lick, you’ll survive and btw cats lick their own bottoms as well, and the lick their owners, lick their fur which you stroke, etc.

Imamouseduh · 03/10/2018 20:46

If you were standing close enough for him to lick you that’s your problem, I’m afraid.

Locandi · 03/10/2018 20:50

Totally agree with booboo. It amazes me how many cat owners get all het up about how filthy dogs are when most can’t actually reach their bumholes anyway and don’t groom themselves much. In contrast cats lick their arses then lick their fur, and they also carry toxoplasmosis in their faeces. Hardly a cleaner pet than a dog.

Deadbudgie · 03/10/2018 21:04

Hopefully your cat is an indoor cat and doesn’t run round pooing on other people’s gardens! Not ideal for you the dog licked you but not exactly a crisis. The owner was prob distracted talking to the receptionist about his presumably poorly dog. Don’t stand so close to the dog next time

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 03/10/2018 21:08

YANBU

I'd also like to ask the random bus passenger from last week not to ignore my polite comments about DDog not being keen on strangers, stick her face in my dog's face, have her face licked and immediately go in for a second set of face kisses - at which point DDog's lip started to curl.

Even I draw the line at 'face kisses' from my dog, so god knows why strangers would want them from my dog. Grim.

SusanneLinder · 03/10/2018 21:15

I try and keep my dogs away from cats and their owners at the vets, simply because some cats are scared of dogs. If its a busy vets surgery, not always possible.
I wouldn't get upset over a lick though....😂
