To report my neighbours

WIBU really.

I live in a council tower block, standard entry phone system at main doors. I've lived here a fair few years.
Couple years ago new neighbours moved in. Originally it was just mum and 2 dc. Then a sister moved in, and another, one sister had a baby, grandma appeared to be living here too. I think grandpa lives there too, or he at least comes and goes ALOT.
So it's a 2 bedroom flat with up to 5 adults and 3 kids living there.
This of itself isn't a problem except the rubbish piles up fast (they pile it outside their front door and take it down to the bins randomly) and they are constantly doing diy which results in mess noise and debris strewn all over the communal hallway for days/weeks.

My biggest bug bear though is the fact that they have one door key.
One entry fob for the front door and one physical key to the flat. You can get second or third ones from the council for £15. Instead, they buzz my door and ask me to let them in.

This regularly happens at 8/9pm and last night 3 times at midnight.
Im a single mum with 2 dc 6&4 who are asleep at those times.
I've asked and asked them not to buzz my door, I've even asked why they don't buzz their own number.
They usually stop understanding English at this point but speak it perfectly when they want something from me (like a delivery taken in)

I'm now at the point of having to turn my buzzer off when the kids go to bed and turn it back on in the morning.

I'm certain they aren't supposed to have that many of them living there and that's why they won't go get more keys.
Would you report them?
WIBU to report them to the council?

You asked nicely, they ignored. Report them!

Givemeroomamonmebroom · 03/10/2018 13:04

Just stating a fact.

Givemeroomamonmebroom · 03/10/2018 13:05

The only time I froth is when drinking a Milk Shake.

Givemeroomamonmebroom · 03/10/2018 13:07

And if you think my statement was frothing you must of lead a sheltered life.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/10/2018 13:07

Just stating a fact. and I asked which 'fact' as it wasn't clear from your first response - what is illegal?

Givemeroomamonmebroom · 03/10/2018 13:13

Not being named on the Tenacy Agreement doh.

Givemeroomamonmebroom · 03/10/2018 13:15

5 Adults, 3 Kids 🤔

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/10/2018 13:17

Not being named on the Tenacy Agreement doh. You do know that wasn't clear from your post? Which is why I asked. You could simply have answered the question.

And it can be perfectly legal not to be named on any tenancy agreement.

Which is why OP has been advised to report the possible overcrowding rather than guessing at any legalities!

Givemeroomamonmebroom · 03/10/2018 13:18

Jeez you do like to have the last don’t you, are you Male?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/10/2018 13:19

Erm... are you The Thread Police?

Why so hostile?

Givemeroomamonmebroom · 03/10/2018 13:22

😂 no i’m not hostile, nice try though.

sunglasses123 · 03/10/2018 13:23

I wonder if they are illegals so have no where else to go and need to keep under the radar. Not your issue tbh. My DB lived next door to a house that seemed to be permanently overcrowded with Vietamese people coming and going at all times. They very much kept themselves to themselves. Didn't seem to be able to speak English.

It turned out they were illegals, working in the many many nail bars around him - cash only etc.

sunglasses well they aren't doing a very good job of keeping under the radar by buzzing the OP are they?! Anyway, if they are illegals, all the more reason to report them.

Fragolino · 03/10/2018 13:30

Without a doubt report then. Diary evidence etc. But be subtle about it. Its disgraceful when your there alone with young children.

UniversalAunt · 03/10/2018 13:31

^Report them

  1. For the overcrowding
  2. For the rubbish, fire hazard
  3. For the noise of the DIY, which they may not have permission for
  4. For the nuisance to you^

THIS - all four issues with health & safety knobs on.

DIY ? No planning permission, no building inspection, no building skills standards, no egress in emergency, materials not suitable for multiple occupancy building... & breaking tenancy agreement. But then they could be building bunk beds...

Do not hesitate to report as any compromise of H&S is not acceptable for all residents.

ClaudiaWankleman · 03/10/2018 13:46

I'm very much enjoying the madness that is buying passive aggressive Christmas presents for nuisance neighbours Grin

Rhiannon13 · 03/10/2018 13:59

Yes, I'd report them.

Partly because they're interfering with your life with the buzzer/ rubbish nonsense, and partly because the children living there deserve to be brought up in acceptable living conditions.

Lizzie48 · 03/10/2018 15:58

I'm amazed at anyone saying that you shouldn't report the overcrowding; this is a tower block and that was one of the major problems faced by the Grenfell Tower Fire rescuers. The rubbish is clearly also a fire hazard. They're also being a nuisance in ringing your buzzer during the night.

You should definitely report all of it.

blurredspeech · 03/10/2018 16:02

Why wouldn't you report them? They are probably breaking the terms of their tenancy and they are being antisocial, rude and causing a mess. Do it!

BlessYour2Sizes2SmallHeart · 03/10/2018 16:04

They aren't buzzing their own place at night because they don't want to wake up their family and kids but are all too happy to wake yours.

REPORT THEM.

Tiredtomybones · 03/10/2018 16:04

Yanbu

SnuggyBuggy · 03/10/2018 16:09

I'd report, they sound like a right nuisance

GladAllOver · 03/10/2018 20:11

More than a nuisance. They are a danger.
If you don't report it you may have cause to be very sorry. Do it.

glintandglide · 03/10/2018 20:17

“Not being named on the Tenacy Agreement doh”

@givemearoomamonmebroom what do you mean it’s illegal not to be named on a tenancy agreement? Illegal how?! You reckon the police are going to arrest them?
