Aibu in thinking there is no way to get rid of the really hard skin at the bottom of my feet? Sorry I know that is totally gross... but I've tried a foot spa, pumis (sp?) stones and they soften up slightly but it's like my foot has just turned to hard skin especially on the heels! Any tips????

The best thing I've found is to soak my feet in warm water with some listerine and vinegar in, then use a green dish scourer to scrub off the dead skin. I did that once a week for a couple of weeks and use flexitol in between and my feet are much better now

AromaticSpices · 03/10/2018 12:14

Don't bother fucking around with creams or gently abrasive stuff. For proper hard skin you need to shave it off. THIS: www.superdrug.com/Superdrug/Superdrug-Corn-And-Callus-Remover/p/649258?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg4igw5Hq3QIVSOd3Ch19Yg6iEAQYAyABEgLEKPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CIyP7MaR6t0CFdCeGwodhAYBUg

Have a bath or soak feet first, then start slowly. It works like a cheese slicer, it will take off the hard skin easily. Go carefully though as it's quite easy to get carried away - and watch the angle of the blade, keep it angled away from the skin otherwise you can cut yourself.

This is what a proper foot specialist would use, although they often do it freehand with a scalpel. This is safer.

Another vote for Footner.
Read all the instructions though.

StealthNinjaMum · 03/10/2018 12:26

I see a few people have recommended Footner.

If you do try it I recommend you do a thread on style and beauty and update us with your progress. Plenty of pictures please, I love a good footner thread and there hasn't been one for ages.

froomeonthebroom · 03/10/2018 12:30

Dermatonics Once. My feet are really, really awful and this is the only thing that works. I also soak my heels and slice off the hard skin once a month or so, and file them every couple of weeks.

Flexitol was good for a while but I think I might have become immune to it!

AynRandTheObjectivist · 03/10/2018 12:31

After your foot falls off with Footner, do you find that the formerly hard bits have also regained their sense of touch? Feet are supposed to be touch sensitive but I can't feel a thing on mine and I'd like to.

foxychox · 03/10/2018 12:37

footner and then maintain with one of the razor things from Boots - gross but effective....

Chiropodist. Honesty after a 30 min appointment you won't recognise your feet. They will be pink and baby soft. And so much easier (and probably cheaper) that faffing about with lots of products. They have professional level tools and a lot of experience. If you go regularly your feet will never get bad again!

Agree with this.

I do use an emery board in between podiatry appointments if necessary (my husband calls it my 'foot polishing'), and that helps. Lots of Vaseline intensive care lotion on feet.

You can't beat a good chiropodist though.

Dash38 · 03/10/2018 12:38

I agree with previous posters.

I spent a fortune on creams and gadgets. Had fortnightly pedicures.
The only thing that has sorted my feet out is a visit to the chiropodist. I go every 6/8 weeks to Shuropody and have never looked back. She laughed at me when I said I'd been having pedicures to get rid of hard skin!

TheBigFatMermaid · 03/10/2018 12:44

I treat myself to a once a month foot overhaul by a podiatrist. She comes to my home, she is amazing and charges me £25. I have mobility problems and was struggling to cut my own toenails. I feel she has made an amazing difference to my life. She even comes to my own home!

WhatsGoingOnEh · 03/10/2018 12:44

Footner all the way!

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 03/10/2018 13:01

Margaret Dabbs foot file & use a thick foot cream overnight with socks to help keep it on.

Katedotness1963 · 03/10/2018 22:22

Glad to see I’m not the only one! I can hear the hard, dry skin on my feet dragging at the bedding at night. I’ve never had it like this before. I think I’m going to try the Footner, it sounds horrifyingly good.

I’m not normally squeamish, but the thought of those wee fish having to eat disgusting dried skin makes me feel sick.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 03/10/2018 22:24

Chiropodist.

They are profesionals with scalpels.

The amount of calloused skin mine takes off my feet every quarter is embarassing

tallpoppies · 03/10/2018 22:31

Footner doesn’t work for me. Takes lots of skin off but leaves the really hard tough bits there - also gives me eczema on my feet!! Depends how hard and tough your skin on your heels is, mine used to get pretty bad before the wonderful callous/corn remover scraper thing that’s already been recommended - game changer!!

FTFF · 03/10/2018 22:43

Chiropodist-get s professional to sort them properly first then regular maintenance.

The Margaret dabbs foot file is amazing. A bit on the expensive side but it really works miracles. Alongside flexitol heal balm (or anything with a high concentrate of urea) is amazing.

bellsbuss · 03/10/2018 22:45

Chiropodist who will use a scalpel then a pedi egg to keep on top of it in between visits. For best results I use mine on dry feet, it's like a cheese grater, after I apply palmers cocoa butter foot balm. I get a build up on the balls of my feet and heels, OH says they are like concrete blocks sometimes Blush

Haffiana · 03/10/2018 22:50

Those that use a chiropodist - how much does it cost? -Maybe state your region as well, please?

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/10/2018 22:51

Definitely Footner - gross but amazing!

AromaticSpices · 04/10/2018 10:16

Agree with some of the PP who say that Footner doesn't work for them - it took away some of the softer bits that I didn't need to lose but left the really hard bits completely untouched. Dealing with the horrible tight feeling for a whole week without moisturising was no way near worth the results. It makes my toes curl up just remembering it!!

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 04/10/2018 10:26

About £30 for a half hour session.

huttub · 04/10/2018 10:34

Chiropodist every 6-8 weeks = sorted!

nokidshere · 04/10/2018 10:39

Ped egg is easy, quick, cheap and effective. Just grates off the skin and then upkeep with lots of moisturiser regularly.

MelonBuffet · 04/10/2018 10:41

I was very excited about Footner, but I also found that they left the really tough bits at the back.

Now I use a corn knife and then my DP gives me a foot rub with Flexitol whenever he’s here, which really helps. I see him maybe 3 nights a week, so when it’s been a couple of days or he goes away on business, my feet miss him!

AynRandTheObjectivist · 04/10/2018 13:31

If you use one of those cheese grater things, isn't there a chance you'll go too deep and cut into live skin?
