AIBU to think Morrisons sales of Mozzarella are going to drop because of this

Have you seen how they are packaging their mozzarella now? In a clear plastic bag.

Now I love the stuff, but seeing a white misshapen ball floating abound in a cloudy liquid with stringy bits of what looks like mucus is not selling it to me!

Doesn't bother me. Assumed that this was what it was supposed to look like!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 02/10/2018 12:11

I agree it doesn't look very nice, but you don't impulse buy mozzarella because it looks nice, you buy it because it's on your list and you're going to make a pizza later.

Popping on to keep a lookout for the recipes.

Also as a single person household I would like to know how long home made cheese can be kept and whether it can be frozen please.

PeridotCricket · 02/10/2018 12:33

I've made mozzarella and it was very easy.

Labneh is even easier.

I've also made cheese strings...which are just cheese - not anything awful at all!

TonnoEMaionese · 02/10/2018 12:33

You'd not be able to eat if you saw how the best stuff is packaged round me....it's just swimming in a baggie! (I'm living in Italy right now!)

UpstartCrow · 02/10/2018 12:34

Yanbu. This is why major supermarkets conducted research into what colours are most appealing for food and which ones are appetizing.

I do like the suggestion that your thread means you are scared of cheese.

Skittlesandbeer · 02/10/2018 12:34

Maybe they’re selling it to markets further away than you? I’m in Australia and I can assure you I need to see every bit of the ball & the liquid before I decide if it’s fresh enough to spend $$$ on it. 24 Hours on a plane does not generally enhance proper mozzarella!

I’d never invest in a mozzarella in opaque packaging. Too risky. Once brexit kicks in, I’m sure you guys will be pickier too. You’ve clearly had it too good cheese-wise until now! Grin

PinkHeart5914 · 02/10/2018 12:39

This is the weirdest OP I’ve read in a while!

It’s mozzarella, surely anyone buying the delicious little ball knows it comes in water? Most people’s eye won’t burn from seeing it in the water in the packet

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 02/10/2018 12:45

Grin I know.

It seems a mere observation and opinion means that I'm clearly hysterical and I need therapy according to some posters

No, Fior di Latte is just cow's milk mozzarella.

Mozzarella for pizza has less water and less whey, hence less liquidy and better for cooking. (see pic)

I remember wondering why on earth my recipes with mozzarella didn't work out looking like they would in a pizzeria, then dp explained the difference. I think you can buy "pizza mozzarella" in supermarkets now.

Books OP her counselling! Wink

Well. Who knew. There's mozzarella. And 'pizza mozzarella', in supermarkets!

OP- what about burrata? Even I, cheese lover extraordinaire (although of course, no Italian considers mozzarella to be cheese really) baulk at that. Dp loves it but it makes me heave. (fior di latte, shaped like a bag, that you slice into and all its stringy innards float out swimming in cream) There's sickly, and there's too sickly.

Poppins2016 · 02/10/2018 13:24

It wouldn't bother me - in fact I'd be more likely to buy it because I could see the product! I prefer see through packaging.
