Mine would be

Prawn saganaki
Chicken and lamb skewers with tzatziki and flatbreads, salad hummus etc
Desert would be something chocolatey maybe a brownie or one of those warm cookie dough desserts

I did a come dine with me with three friends over the course of one month - every saturday night a different one of us cooked.

My menu was 'Rock Music' themed
The Jam - Toasted ciabatta with homemade bacon jam and a fried egg.
Meatloaf - Veal, beef and pork meatloaf with roasted veg
Blondie - Brownies and blondies with vanilla ice cream.

One friend made pan fried duck breast with stir fried noodles and Bakewell Tart for dessert - I can't remember his starter.

One friend made Chicken strips, Curry and 'Banana Split'.
However, his banana split was literally a banana cut in half with some other fruit. No ice cream , no cream, nothing other than fruit. He didn't believe us when we told him it normally came with ice cream... and refused to believe us despite us googling many, many pictures.

The fourth friend never cooked her turn, broke up with her boyfriend, moved away, changed her name and was never seen again. Which was a slightly unexpected reaction.
She made 'banana split' boy look normal...

well if we go by last night dinner, undercooked broccoli and cauliflower cheese, the worse toughest silveraide roast beef you have ever tasted, frozen roast potatoes and brown water that only mildly passed for gravy. followed by a disappointing minced pie.

I usually cook really well and I don't know what happened...

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 01/10/2018 18:16

@ThisIsNotARealAvo what do you put food on if you don't serve it on plates?

You give everyone a plate and let them help themselves. You don't attempt a smear of pea goop or a garnish on a horrible brown square plate. Always looks so crap.

Fruitbatdancer · 01/10/2018 18:44

@eliza9917 I think we were separated at birth Grin
We did a couples CDWM among friend but pulled a country out the hat too! I got France! Snails, French onion soup, coq au vin, profiteroles!

If I didn’t do Eliza’s menu I’d do

langoustine bisque
Chicken stuffed mozzarella with pancetta and a roast red pepper white wine sauce
Creme caramel with honeycomb

ToffeePennie · 01/10/2018 18:56

Starter: roasted portobello mushrooms with garlic butter and Camembert dip
Mains: roast leg of lamb in a mint and red wine gravy, roasted honey glazed carrots and parsnips and sweet’n’white potato mash with lashings of gravy.
Dessert; my sticky fudge chocolate cake with homemade fudge and vanilla ice cream.
I must confess I haven’t considered a vegetarian option - I only know one vegetarian and she is fairly accommodating about swapping typical meats for quorn (although I know that’s not brilliant)

jellyandsoup · 01/10/2018 19:15

Starter goats cheese tart, main smoked haddock with a chorizo crust, with salad. Dessert white chocolate and Bailey's cheese cake

BellyDancer124 · 01/10/2018 19:39

Tomhardy I would give you a 10! Great menu

Paperdolly · 01/10/2018 19:43

Melon fan

Potted beef sandwiches (without crusts for poshness)

A banana.

No ones mentioned entertainment. 😳

Dog agility.

I win! 👏🏻

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 01/10/2018 19:46

I did this with friends 🤗

Homemade breads with various dips / oils and olives for nibbles when people arrive, along with a limoncello cocktail

Butternut squash ravioli for starter. (Giant ravioli, just one or two per person.)

Fillet of beef on sweet potato mash with roasted asparagus and a red wine jus for main course

Caderzone cheesecake for dessert

Vina Santa and cantuccini biscuits with optional coffee 😍

thismeansnothing · 01/10/2018 19:50

Heinz tomato AND cream of chicken soup together. (Gives amazing creamy tomato soup with the odd random chicken chunk) with French stick.

Fried (cos it's a treat) Birdseye cod fish finger butty on thick white bread with butter and chips.

Pudding a Sarah Lee chocolate gateux.

Thanks @discodown your welcome anytime 🤣

UnderHerEye · 01/10/2018 20:12

Brilliant thread !

Eliza’s menu would be a winner for me, and the Under household has been known to have that exact dinner on birthdays !

I would make

Starter:
Cheese and caramelised onion tart

Main:
Roast beef, Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, peas and carrots and cauliflower. (Obviously with gravy because I’m not a heathen)

Pudding:
Strawberry Pavlova
Coffee
homemade truffles

I’m getting seriously hungry now!!

JontyDoggle37 · 01/10/2018 20:29

Starter: Homemade crackers (salt & pepper flavouring) with a selection of dips (black olive tapenade, red pepper and smashed courgette with garlic)
Main: Ribeye steak, cooked to order, with triple cooked chips, grilled vine tomatoes and portabello mushrooms, with a peppercorn or bearnaise sauce
Desert: Chocolate Melting Heart pudding with ice cream
With the starter I would serve a bright fruity New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc like a Brancott Estate, with the main a deeply spicy Shiraz (McGuigan Reserve is pretty good for a supermarket job) and alongside dessert either shots of Baileys or a mellow Sauterne, depending on choice.
Meal to close with coffee, including Irish coffee if requested, and of course, After Eights!!!

Babybearsporij · 01/10/2018 20:39

Starter: fried halloumi with olives & dips etc
Main: Salmon en croute with new potatoes, asparagus & tenderstem broccoli
Dessert: Eton mess or cheesecake or lemon curd layer cake

noeffingidea · 01/10/2018 20:45

Selection of dips with vegetable crisps
Paella
Chocolate pavlova with lots of lovely raspberries and strawberries.

flyingspaghettimonster · 01/10/2018 20:52

Canapes of homemade chicken liver pate and mackerel pate on toast points.

Starter of crusty bread and mussels, prawns and clams in garlic white wine sauce.

Tagine of lamb with couscous and roast carrots.

Dessert would be mini chocolate cakes with raspberry coulis.

Tom Collins for drinks and a shiraz with the main course.

bananafish · 01/10/2018 21:00

Mine changes all the time (why am I even thinking about it? 😂)

Currently: starter would be poached lobster tail with cauliflower cheese (cheeky take on meunière)

Main - duck with wild mushrooms and buttery mash

Pudding - amalfi lemon tart with blackberry mousse.

Yum 🍰

Thisgirlcant · 01/10/2018 21:03

Cauliflower and cheese soup

Steak and kidney pie with homemade chips

A selection of mini cheesecakes

mimibunz · 01/10/2018 21:07

Starter: crab cakes

Main: seafood gumbo over rice

Dessert: salted caramel ice cream

tillytoodles1 · 01/10/2018 21:18

I'd be an awful guest as I hate goats cheese, lamb and tomatoes. I would serve salmon pate with salad and homemade bread. Some type of pork with dauphinoise potatoes and roasted veg. Desert would be apple tarte tatin with ice cream. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I love food like that.

StrongTeaDropOfMilkNoSugar · 01/10/2018 21:35

Starter: nibbly bits (sounds like a euphemism, but would actually be olives, houmous, bread etc)

Main: lamb shank tagine, herby lemon couscous with chickpeas. Harissa yogurt dressing.

Pud: mini passion fruit curd puds.

MorningsEleven · 01/10/2018 22:07

Cauliflower and cheese soup

DS's favourite soup.

DeliveredByKiki · 01/10/2018 23:36

Mine would currently be:

Nibbles of harissa hummus, fig and olive dip and pita chips and sliced veg and orange blossom water gin and tonics
Starter of mini herb and pistachio falafel on white cabbage leaves with cashew butter and tahini and lemon sauce and mint yoghurt with a crisp Pinot Grigio
Main of root vegetable and preserved lemon tagine, glazed roasted carrots in cumin and jewelled quinoa with toasted slivered almonds, tons of parsley and coriander and pomegranate seeds with a light Pinot noir
Pud of cardamom, pistachio and rose water cake with rose water sorbet and fresh raspberries with whisky just cos I love a single malt

Eliza9917 · 02/10/2018 11:45

I'm so hungry now after reading these!
