Cage fighting

Just caught a bit of female cage fighting, by accident, it came on after something else.
I was totally horrified 😳 two women beating the fuck out of each other, both were bleeding.
It’s not a sexist thing, I’d feel the same if it were men.
AIBU in thinking this is not a sport? It seems to me it’s no different from cock fighting, or dogs?
That said, animals don’t have a choice

Don’t blame you, I was fucking bored even writing it

Didn’t want you to have an empty AIBU so I thought I would pop by and say hi. Smile

HB2Me · 30/09/2018 08:14

Ive never seen the attraction of anything like that whether it’s male or female sport. I’m very squeamish about blood

araiwa · 30/09/2018 08:22

I really enjoy watching it

All the combat sports really

I'm an MMA fan (female).
It takes years of training and skill to become a good fighter. They have a strict diet and take their job very seriously.
Rugby involves a lot of contact and bloodiness, but no one calls it 'cockfighting'.
Women choose this for themselves and are (on the whole) well respected in the sports. In fact a couple of years ago a woman was the biggest star of the whole sport (Ronda Rousey).
You're being very narrow minded.

PristineCondition · 30/09/2018 08:29

I don't like football, doesn't mean it's not sport though.

HundredsAndThousandsOfThem · 30/09/2018 08:31

Doesn't sound like a sport I would ever want to see. Unlike rugby I'm assuming the only point is to hurt the other person. That said if they've chosen to do it and there are safety measures then I guess it's fair enough.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/09/2018 08:34

YAbVU it's a combat sport, they are choosing to take part. My combat fitness bootcamp instructor is a Female MMA fighter, she is very professional. There are a shed load of rules they have to follow in an organised fight, if the ref feels that any of tge fighters safety is at risk, they end the fight. Fighters can it beat up opponents and do as they wish, they drill their skill and technique and train really hard months beforehand. Judges are looking for skill, they are looking for certain techniques. If you do not know about MMA, you don't know.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/09/2018 08:35

Meant to say, fighters just cannot do what they want and beat up opponents, it's not street fighting.

PositiveVibez · 30/09/2018 08:39

Yanbu OP. I simply can't see the 'competition' in people twatting each other to crown one 'the winner'.

It's barbaric. But then again, I feel the same about boxing.

People hurting each other on purpose for sport and the baying crowds egging them on. It's just so base.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/09/2018 08:51

I am learning MMA kickboxing, not to fight, but to keep fit, tgere is a lot of skill aand technique involved, it's quite complicated. You cannot beat anyone willy nilly. It is like a tactical game, you have to read the opponents body language, and judge how they fight technique, to be able to defeat them.

PositiveVibez · 30/09/2018 08:57

Please let's call it what it is. For all the skill, reading body language, tactics, technique, it is really about who is the best at beating the other up.

Broken noses, black eyes, swollen jaws. It is primeval.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/09/2018 09:01

Yes it's a contact sport like Karate, or Jujitzu or Kung Fu. Just because you don't agree with it, does not make it wrong. At tge end of the day, fighters are sport people who CHOOSE to take part.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/09/2018 09:13

No different to Rugby or Football where they can end up with a bloody nose, or bruises.

PositiveVibez · 30/09/2018 09:14

I didn't say it was wrong. I may not understand it, but if battering another human is what floats their boat, fair enough.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/09/2018 09:17

That's why i am not fighting, as it is not for me, and I don't have the skills to do it, I am just learning the technique side of it, and we do light sparring in the dojo to practise it. People can do it if they wish, it is painful to watch though, as they do it without protection.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/09/2018 09:17

If their defences are not up to scratch, they can get a blow to the head, or body.

MeanTangerine · 30/09/2018 09:19

it is primeval

No, not really. MMA rules are probably easiest understood as a combination of wrestling, boxing, judo and tae kwon do - four Olympic sports.

LaurieMarlow · 30/09/2018 09:19

YANBU, it's totally barbaric.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/09/2018 09:50

It's barbaric if you are not familiar with the sport.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/09/2018 13:45

Thanks for the replies was feeling a bit Billy no mates there😬
I agree that people get hurt in football, rugby etc but that’s a risk of the game, not the purpose, no?

OP posts:
MeanTangerine · 30/09/2018 18:50

Is this a question of civil liberties, OP? Do you think combat sport should be banned?

SmallState · 30/09/2018 19:44

It's not my thing at all, but I don't think it should be banned.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/09/2018 20:59

I don’t think it’s a question of civil liberties. I’m assuming that the men and women who take part in it do so of their own volition.
I’m also a great believer in personal choice.
I just personally find it disturbing to watch, so I guess the answer is don’t watch!

OfaFrenchmind2 · 30/09/2018 21:10

I like watching the fights. I actually like violent sports, it satisfy my slight bloodlust and it is between matched combattants that are trained and eager to fight. I guess it is the same as my love for violent movies when the violence is between people that either deserved it, or can fight back, like a good Kill Bill, and not a Saw.
