That if Voldermorte had gunned for Hermione from the start, rather than focusing on Harry, there would only have been one film. Harry wouldn't have lasted two minutes without her.

writersblock but the maze was in Hogwarts so how did the portkey work there?

ShowOfHands · 30/09/2018 04:22

I wonder if they'll ever remake the films.

I know they can't put everything in the films but I always watch GoF and wish they'd made more of Barty Jr. How he ended up escaping Azkaban and his relationship with his father always seems dramatically far more interesting than some of the stuff they left in.

AngeloMysterioso · 30/09/2018 04:33

I’d like the BBC or someone to do a serialised TV version, where they could take their time to include the more intricate plot details. They could make it a season per book.

I mean the PofA movie didn’t even slightly go into the whole Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs Story, or explain Sirius escaping Azkaban because he was a dog, or how Lupin knew the Marauder’s Map was a map. I always thought non-book fans would be pretty confused by all the gaping holes in the plot.

And don’t get me started on how they wrecked the ending of Deathly Hallows.

TheHulksPurplePanties · 30/09/2018 04:39

I love Volde's pages long explanation of his devious plot at the end of GoF (the book), I can't help but think of Austin Power's and James Bond films where the bad guy taking forever to explain his genius gives the good guy the chance to escape. I keep waiting for Volde to say he'll let Harry go if someone gives him a million dollars.

The plot of GoF is a little contrived, but the ending marks the turning point in the books being really kiddish to more young adult.

MidniteScribbler · 30/09/2018 07:54

Rather than the Buzzfeed ripoff (can they ever produce anything original??), watch the original video "Hermione Granger and the Goddamn Patriachy':

Funkyslippers · 30/09/2018 08:21

Voldemort was not physically strong enough to harm Harry in any way until the fourth book/film. By the fifth, people all around the school were protecting Harry so Voldemort's only option was to use magic (his scar, the dreams etc...) because he couldn't usually get close enough to stab Harry. He also didn't like muggles so wouldn't want to use one of their ways of killing.
And he hates all mudbloods - he wouldn't expect one like Hermione to be of any threat to him.

AngeloMysterioso · 30/09/2018 09:03

The awkward moment when MidniteScribbler bashes BuzzFeed for not being original and links to a video... by BuzzFeed. Which is based on the “ripoff” post that I linked to.

Oops.

@Buggerbrexit how could I have missed that one?

I remembered another one - Slughorn/Archmaester at the Citadel in season 7

Trills · 30/09/2018 09:19

If you liked that Buzzfeed post you'll probably enjoy seeing that author's first experiences of Harry Potter.

Muggles.

Writersblock2 · 30/09/2018 09:53

SgtFredColon - the maze was near Hogwarts, not in the protected area/official grounds.

quirkychick · 30/09/2018 10:10

The Goblet of Fire really annoys me because it's just so far fetched and just an excuse to show the Tri Wizard Tournament, with dragons, under the lake and the maze. I agree about the portkey being the cup is unnecessary and also, surely clever Dumbledore would have twigged that his long time friend, Mad-Eye Moody was an imposter over the course of a whole school year!

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 11:03

I love this thread,

“First 3 Books about wizards, giant snakes and centaurs cohabiting the earth wth us are totally believable but the 4th is far fetched because it has a big hunger games style tournament”.

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 11:07

Remember, they have form for difficult tasks for children. The three of them ended up in the forbidden forest in book 2 (I think?) as a puncishment Grin

TheHulksPurplePanties · 30/09/2018 11:14

The three of them ended up in the forbidden forest in book 2

Book 1, with Draco, to find whatever is killing unicorns (which is apparently a really horrible, evil thing to do, so who better to send to investigate then three 11 years year olds).

MrsJayy · 30/09/2018 11:14

Order of the phoneix next week my favourite I love love love it

PinguDance · 30/09/2018 11:19

I really like GoF - it’s PS that has the major plot fail in that if Harry hadn’t gone to look in mirror of erised the stone wouldn’t have appeared and Voldemort would have just been down there for ages until Dumbledore came back. I can forgive it though cos it’s the first one and so much a children’s book. I love book Hermione but I feel like Emma Watson actually got worse at acting throughout the series... that scene when they dance to Nick Cave 🤦🏻‍♀️

PinguDance · 30/09/2018 11:24

Totally agree about Hermione tho - Peter pettigrew really ought to have told Voldemort that she had all their good ideas. Apart from that time in CoS where she believes Malfoy might be responsible for killing muggle borns then they all take polyjuice potion For ‘reasons’

SgtFredColon · 30/09/2018 12:34

Writers it was on the quidditch pitch - I’d assume that is in Hogwarts grounds
