To be worried about my arse

Name changed.

Basically, this summer I morphed into a repulsive monster - I kept getting these painful spots on my arse. It started with one, then that one would go, but two others would appear.

Nightmare.

So, after 3 months of trying everything I could think of (benzoyl peroxide, tea tree, witch hazel, hydrocortisone, turmeric tea etc etc) I have been to my lovely dr who prescribed oral antibiotics. Nearly finished course and things are MUCH improved.

BUT!!! She did say they might come back. Obviously there are more steps to take if this happens. But I can't bear them to come back. They made me feel so awful. I am soooo dreading feeling a new one erupting Sad

So... how can I prevent it??? I was already doing all the obvious stuff - two showers a day, cotton pants etc

I feel like I don't really understand what caused them in the first place, so don't know what's for the best. I realise I should have asked the dr more questions... but I didn't...

Any ideas? My arse needs your help.

Diet? Did change your diet in summer .

Marie0 · 29/09/2018 14:15

Metanium is very good for ‘drying out’ spots

Polarbearflavour · 29/09/2018 14:15

How about a good quality multivitamin including zinc? Maybe supplement with lysine and probiotics?

BiscuitDrama · 29/09/2018 14:17

I saw someone mention on a shampoo thread that some shampoos and conditioners give them arse spots. It couldn’t be that could it?

Cressida89 · 29/09/2018 14:18

Will try the vitamins yes, thanks.

Metanium is a possibility too. I did try sudocrem as it works for nappy rash... !

Don't think my diet changed really.

Never apply bum to public loo seat obv.

villainousbroodmare · 29/09/2018 14:19

Although multifactorial and suggestions above all valid.

Cressida89 · 29/09/2018 14:23

I suppose I don't really get whether it's a skin thing (ie I need to worry about what I put on my skin) or an inside thing...

OP posts:
Cressida89 · 29/09/2018 14:24

And if antibiotics make it go away, how can it come back? (I don't mind if you explain things to me as if I'm an idiot...)

Do you suffer from constipation? I've noticed on myself that when I'm not regular I break out in spots on my bum.

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 29/09/2018 14:27

Could be that you're showering and using the wrong soaps too much. Skin has natural oils which help protect it like your hair does do washing too much can exacerbate issues like that.

Have you tried different soaps/ways of washing ie natural sponges etc?

OuchLegoHurts · 29/09/2018 14:28

Did you come off the pill? I got them on my face when I came off it. Went on antibiotics and they cleared up and I was worried they'd come back after I finished the course. They did a little bit, but not badly, then completely cleared up after a month or two

OuchLegoHurts · 29/09/2018 14:29

I should add, I had them nearly a year before going on the antibiotics, so it was definitely them that cleared them up

Cressida89 · 29/09/2018 14:35

How strange ursus - I wonder how constipation could be linked? But yes - I do sometimes.

The thing is, I don't feel like I've changed anything I do - re diet or washinv...

OP posts:
Cressida89 · 29/09/2018 14:40

Not come off the pill, no. I've got the mirena coil - had it for over 2 years...

Should be better now the weather is turning- I find if I get a flare up it’s far worse in hot weather - no bending over for your DH in the bedroom for a bit then Smile good luck hope they clear up soon xxx

Lynne1Cat · 29/09/2018 14:42

Do you wear tight jeans? You need cotton knickers, with skirts or at least trousers which are not tight. Get more antibiotics, possible a cream fro the doctor.

Pinsandneeedles · 29/09/2018 14:46

Sorry you had to deal with this it sounds grim and painful.
I think an exfoliating regiem is very good for keeping skin clear. So perhaps use a loofah and tea tree wash every time you are in the shower to stop pores blocking up?

Rudgie47 · 29/09/2018 14:48

Theres only one solution, you have to have it kissed better.

Just ask people to kiss your arse.

Cressida89 · 29/09/2018 14:50

So is exfoliating likely to be a good course of action? I was worried about aggravating the skin Confused

Anyone got any views on coconut oil?

OP posts:
Marie0 · 29/09/2018 14:53

I exfoliate and it helps - then add metanium

I find any kind of oil (including coconut) just adds too much moisture to the skin and doesn’t help clear it up

I use those exfoliating gloves you can get for a £1 from wiko or somewhere

Notajourno · 29/09/2018 14:54

I used to have a spotty bum, backs of legs, boobs and arms.

Since exfoliating everyday my bum and legs are completely clear just a few on the tops of my arms and boobs.

Vickister · 29/09/2018 14:55

Is it mainly where the root of the hair follicle is? It sounds like folliculitis which is the follicle becoming inflamed. Laser hair removal can stop it but the child's farm products are great. Also loads of exfoliating.

Hope it goes for you

ivykaty44 · 29/09/2018 14:59

What did your gp say might be causing the spits and if antibiotics cleared them up does that mean they were bacterial?
