To be worried about my arse

Name changed.

Basically, this summer I morphed into a repulsive monster - I kept getting these painful spots on my arse. It started with one, then that one would go, but two others would appear.

Nightmare.

So, after 3 months of trying everything I could think of (benzoyl peroxide, tea tree, witch hazel, hydrocortisone, turmeric tea etc etc) I have been to my lovely dr who prescribed oral antibiotics. Nearly finished course and things are MUCH improved.

BUT!!! She did say they might come back. Obviously there are more steps to take if this happens. But I can't bear them to come back. They made me feel so awful. I am soooo dreading feeling a new one erupting Sad

So... how can I prevent it??? I was already doing all the obvious stuff - two showers a day, cotton pants etc

I feel like I don't really understand what caused them in the first place, so don't know what's for the best. I realise I should have asked the dr more questions... but I didn't...

Any ideas? My arse needs your help.

Oh - just read the bit about blood poisoning. Feel ever so slightly less upbeat now Shock

Dr did say it was nothing to worry about...

Have actually considered not wearing knickers; the knicker line across bottom of buttock seems a particular danger zone.

I'm prone to tiny little horrific spots in my groin from wearing knickers!

Wear boy shorts and go pant less overnight and very rare these days.

I used an antifungal cream on mine that seemed to work.
Mine looked like acne not boils though.

Just catching up. Clearasil do salicylic acid pads, they're about £5 in Morrison's. Apple cider vinegar in a shallow bath followed by salicylic acid pads seems to help although it's really difficult to tell when you have no idea what's causing the spots in the first place! It's really disheartening when there seem to be new spots daily!

Cressida89 · 30/09/2018 08:07

Thank you Jarred

Yes - that's what I really struggle with... not knowing if anything I'm doing is having any effect at al!

Thanks everyone for your responses. Current situation is that I'm on the last day of my 2 week antibiotic course and the spots have cleared...

I had this on the tops of my thighs and underarm area. The doctor told me it was folliculitis and prescribed antibiotics. They have never returned. I thought that might help you feel positive about it. They were huge great big boils that made it hard to walk and move because they were so painful. The course of antibiotics were over 10 years ago now, and I haven't had a single one since.

Cressida89 · 30/09/2018 08:18

That really does help stormwhale Thank you!

Fingers crossed...

Do you spend alot of time sitting in your job or day to day life?

Cressida89 · 30/09/2018 08:22

No - that's the thing - I'm always on my feet! Work full time at a non-desk job and have two primary-age children...

DD suffers from this, albeit to a lesser extent. Long warm bath soaks in heavy concentrations of Epsom or magnesium salts always work wonders. They are usually on special offer in Home Bargains but I recently got a good deal in Boots. My sympathies - it is miserable.

MissusGeneHunt · 30/09/2018 08:27

Dear Cressida's Arse

I know your pain... My spots are the same, and it turned out to be follicular problems. Prescription cream, gentle exfoliation and as much time in the open air as possible. Although clearly, that last bit could be tricky. Perhaps a referral to a dermatologist? Was also using witch Hazel at one point. Mine come and go but are minor now. Hope you get better.

Do you use biological washing powder. I did and found myself unconsciously scratching which infected spots. Non biological and sulpher soap helped.

Cressida89 · 30/09/2018 12:44

I do always use non-bio...

Cressida89 · 30/09/2018 12:57

But I really appreciate all the suggestions.

Sorry to go dark but mine turned out to be a symptom of Diabetes T2.

MissusGeneHunt Loved your post!

Cressida89 · 30/09/2018 13:44

Did you have any other symptoms Dontcallme ?

Sun bed! people with really bad acne find it cleared up when they went to sunny country. You can get UV pens for spots.

TheApeOfDeath · 30/09/2018 15:23

CBD is fantastic for inflammation. I use it neat on spots and they disappear. Is it too personal for me to ask if the spots contain pus? Do you have any other symptoms? Do they itch?

Cressida89 · 30/09/2018 15:33

Where do you get CBD?

Some pus, yes - but not really squeezable (sorry - TMI).

Re: sun/sunbeds, sunshine just did not seem to help this summer. Yes, I lay on my lawn and attempted to get some rays on my buttocks! I have always found sun good on, for example, facial spots. But here it just didn't help Sad

DontCallMeCharlotte · 30/09/2018 16:11

Cressida89

No I didn't. Twenty years on and I still haven't.

Cressida89 · 30/09/2018 18:40

No symptoms at all?

I have looked into it a bit and apparently I'm v low risk for diabetes (low BMI, low blood pressure, no family with diabetes) - but am going to have a blood test anyway.

OP posts:
DontCallMeCharlotte · 30/09/2018 19:45

Good idea. No, no symptoms at all although I was high risk - overweight, family history etc.

Crumbkee123 · 15/08/2025 15:34

Hi were you ever able to resolve these bumps- if so how?
