To think that if you behave like a twat and then need rescuing, you should be charged for it.

Just watched an episode of 'Saving lives at seas' I'd recorded.

Some twat decided it would be 'an adventure' to set out in a life raft, live it rough for a while, then get washed back in to shore by the tide.

I know it's not practical, but is it just me that thinks these stupid fuckers should have to pay for their actions.

The massive difference between search and rescue costs and the cost of fighting smoking and obesity illnesses is the people doing the latter are not putting their own lives at risk because of other people's stupid decisions. People making stupid decisions re smoking, drinking, lack of exercise etc can be considered to be putting other people's lives at risk because there isn't the money to treat everyone.

I remember many years ago walking up Snowdon with my Father on early May Bank Holiday weekend. Sun was shining, lovely warm day with a light breeze. There were people walking up in flip flops, shorts, vests & nothing else. Women in sandals with wedge heels (!). People with toddlers in tow, even someone with a very small child in a push chair. We got very strange looks with our walking boots, trousers rather than shorts, coats hanging from belts, and small rucksack of essentials (food, drink, torch etc).

3/4 of the way up, the sleet hit followed by hail and howling winds. By the time we hit the top it was a complete whiteout. I really hope that those people lower down had turned back...
