Sofa delivery at midnight

sunstrokecity · 27/09/2018 23:28

Ordered a new sofa, got confirmation email this morning that sofa would be delivered between 20:00 and 22:00.

Delivery driver called at 22:30 to state the obvious, he was running late.

Has just called again to say he will be here at approximately 00:00.

AIBU to think 00:00 is far to late to be delivering a sofa to a normal home address on a Thursday evening?!?!?

I'd call up for a massive discount or cancel the order!

Contact the company and ask what they can do to rectify the problem as quickly as possible. It’s in their best interests to efficiently and effectively resolve the issues. Try reminding them of their professional obligations towards customers. Do they have a store or not?

Leave a message on the Facebook page or email or phone them. Do you have any receipts or not? Take pictures of your new sofa and then post them on the Facebook page or something. I’ve never had to answer my door at midnight except when my partner came home totally drunk one night earlier this year.

Irregardless this isn’t good customer service. I’ll be annoyed if that happened to me. If all else fails order a new sofa from a better store next time.

We had this with a sofa company too - it was coming from Wales to London. I think they turned up at 10pm despite it being due by 6pm. The chair was going in DD's room who was then about 4 or 5 yrs old so it was a bit weird her being woken up by 2 big blokes carrying a chair in.

Last year on my birthday I was expecting the delivery of a washing machine (rock'n'roll!) from John Lewis. Paid extra for short delivery slot in the morning. Finally at 9pm they cancelled and I'd spent my entire birthday waiting in. They then said they'd neither redeliver or refund and it actually took a while for the to concede that if I'd paid for it but not received it, they'd have to return my money, including the delivery fee. Bonkers. Will never use them again.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/09/2018 10:08

That is beyond annoying op. I wouldn’t fancy being the person who answers the phone to you ar 365 today!!

W0rriedMum · 28/09/2018 10:08

I once had a sofa delivered at 6pm on Christmas Eve!

LuluJakey1 · 28/09/2018 10:14

John Lewis left a wardrobe in the middle of our hall (literally couldn't get past it) on a Saturday when Christmas day was on a Tuesday. They had told us it would go up the stairs and the 2 men who delivered it would not even attempt it.

I rang up and complained and they sent 3 men from Alnwick at 7pm on a Saturday night to get it upstairs. They were delighted because they were being paid triple time.

dingdongdigeridoo · 28/09/2018 10:22

Was it the furniture company themselves or are they using a courier? Arrow XL are the worst for weird time slots. They seem to be used by loads of retailers and will only tell you a time slot the night before. It’s always either 7-9am, which means they show up about 6.30 and piss off your neighbours, or 6-8pm and they show up whenever they fancy, getting mad at you if you dare to go out because you weren’t expecting them.

Why are furniture deliveries seemingly so hard?

Christmasplanner · 28/09/2018 10:29

LuluJakey1 Buying anything for upstairs usually ends in a complaint from me, I tell them when I order it will need to be taken upstairs, I repeat this when delivery is confirmed and then 9/10 the delivery driver turns up expecting to leave it in the hall, presumably for some imagined husband to arrive later and take it upstairs.

I've even sold things on ebay, very cheaply, on the basis that the buyer dismantles and collects from upstairs, I've confirmed that I will not be able to help and that collection is from upstairs, only for one person to turn up expecting I'm going to help them or I'll have a man on hand to help them.

LuluJakey1 · 28/09/2018 10:38

Christmas We took all the measurements of the staircase into John Lewis, plus DH did a drawing to show everything. The man was fully confident it would fit. To be fair it did fit, they just didn't send enough people to carry it and DH was out when they left it or he would have helped.

Ecofluffynanny · 28/09/2018 21:47

Did you complain OP?

sunstrokecity · 29/09/2018 10:27

Phoned them and spoke to the manager, earliest they can get it redelivered will be Monday, so we now have the whole weekend with no sofas!

They gave me the whole speech of he has done this before etc and has now been 'let go' however whether or not I believe them is still undecided.

Good luck for Monday!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/09/2018 17:03

That's beyond shit, OP. Waiting up till past midnight AND no bloody sofa!

OldShuck · 29/09/2018 17:07

Wow, atrocious service Angry

LadyLindaT · 29/09/2018 17:33

I had this with AO and a dishwasher. I spent the whole evening tracking the delivery and eventually it got cancelled at about midnight, and I was told that I had to ring to rearrange it. What made it even worse was that it was a housewarming present for my daughter, who was sitting there like a prune waiting for it, and had to be up for 5 am for her commute. Oh, well, no good deed goes unpunished.

SubtitlesOn · 29/09/2018 17:41

AO have very bad reputation round here too

sunstrokecity · 01/10/2018 14:36

Woohoo it arrived!!!!!

Congratulations on your new sofa OP - and at least they didn't deliver at midnight.

Anyone reading the thread should try Ikea for sofas - very reasonable and delivered within 1 week of ordering. No messin'

SubtitlesOn · 01/10/2018 17:09

Hope you all have a comfy evening relaxing on your new settee SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

LukeSkywalkerBoots · 01/10/2018 17:21

Enjoy the sofa!

StoneofDestiny · 01/10/2018 19:29

Congrats - safe to say that store has lost a lot of potential customers - rightly so.

LavendarGreen · 01/10/2018 19:41

Would piss me off, but I would just be glad to get it tbh. I would have a moan on twatter about it after though.

We had something similar happen last year... We were awaiting a new bed, and the time slot was between 4pm and 10pm. So we held off having dinner, and waited, and waited, and waited.. six hours! Rang the helpline at 9-ish to check they were still coming, and got no answer. It just rang and rang.

Half nine came. The delivery driver rang us and said he should be here within the hour. Half ten came, then eleven. We were verrrrrrrrrrry pissed off now!

11.45pm, we got a text from the driver ... 'unfortunately, I am unable to make it tonight with your goods, but shall endeavour to deliver it between 8 and 12 tomorrow morning.'

I was livid, and tried ringing back, as there would be no-one in the next morning.

He didn't answer, obviously. Hmm

I texted back saying we would not be in. No reply. We had a big fat card through the door though saying 'tried to deliver your goods at 11.40am.'

I was so mad that I cancelled the order and told them to shove the bed.

2 MONTHS it took to get a refund. I will use Argos next time!

LavendarGreen · 01/10/2018 19:45

Just saw that you got it. Fab! Grin

goforkyourself · 01/10/2018 19:46

Was there pivoting? Wink

nextdoorscatwantstomovein · 01/10/2018 19:50

It took currys 4 weeks and 5 attempts to deliver a dishwasher:
1-damaged at store
2-damage noticed on delivery
3- main helpline promised a delivery on Sunday,dh waited in , no delivery in our area on Sundays
4 promised delivery by 4 on saturday, by 5 no sign so rang and said that we going out at 6. Guess what, sat in theatre at 6:45 waiting for show when they rang to say they were at house!
Finally got it on the fifth attempt
