Just read the news. Meghan has, in a complete break with tradition, closed the car door herself instead of leaving it to whoever is her royal car door closer. Shocking modern American behaviour. What next? Will Charles squeeze his own toothpaste? Thank heavens we've got a Royal Wedding (lite) to look forward to.

Hmm. Man without balls. Can he cheat?

Her real name is Rachel? I thought her real name is Princess Harry. Or Princess Henry. Or Meghan Duchess of Sussex. Or Princess Meghan or Meghan ofHarry. I feel an identity crisis looming.

Jay, he’s a renowned adulterer - was for years. He’s a vile man. Mind you, they don’t spoil a pair.

Come and join the Royal Style & Gossip thread

We often talk about frocks, but in between there’s plenty of insider information.!

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 27/09/2018 09:30

She uses her middle name as her "normal" name instead of her first one. Many people do that, me included. It's quite normal for royalty too - the Queen's father was Bertie (Albert) but officially he was George.

I can't decide whether the car door story is funnier than the outrage about Meghan crossing her legs while sitting on a chair.

prettypossums · 27/09/2018 09:32

She strikes me as a rather pretentious, social-climbing bore...

She strikes me as a rather pretentious, social-climbing bore

Based I presume on your extensive interactions with her. Wink

necromumda · 27/09/2018 09:39

I'm all in favour of having nice things if you want them and enjoying fashion BUT I don't know how she can hope to be taken seriously as "someone who is going to work" as an ambassador for change/for charity etc when each outing is just a fashion parade. Sure, I realise its the press reporting and she doesn't have to weat a bin bag but really? "Meghan wows in Chanel suit whilst waving at poor" etc

necromumda · 27/09/2018 09:40

Perhaps she should wear black a la "ask her more" Oscars protest?

LittleMissedTheSunshine · 27/09/2018 09:41

Not sure why this is a feminist issue? Surely the royals be the male or female have had serfs closing doors/opening doors for them since the year dot.

I remember seeing at William's wedding him go through a door that was opened for him, he has balls and a cock I believe.

LittleMissedTheSunshine · 27/09/2018 09:42

I do apologise I thought this was in feminist chat! (exits stage left)

longwayoff · 27/09/2018 09:46

I dont know. What with car door closing, leg crossing and name changing breaking out amid the younger royals I have to ask. Is our monarchy crumbling? Being undermined from within? Stiff upper lips vanishing? Civilisation trembles.

OH heck! Megans big roll! I meant role hahah!!! bless her reckon she will manage if they cut the crusty bits off!!! sorry! I too am now picturing her struggling with a huge baguette in one hand trying to shut the door with her knee!

coolmule · 27/09/2018 09:51

I really don’t understand why Philip has any fans at all with his disgusting racism. It was the same with the queen mother. Like him she never tried to hide her bigotry and racism, particularly towards black people. Their age was no excuse either. Makes you wonder how many more of them share the same views, but wisely keep it hidden.

lynmilne65 · 27/09/2018 09:52

Yeah you'd know pretty

lborgia · 27/09/2018 09:57

I always like the nugget of information that Philip was born on a kitchen table on Corfu.

Did well for himself then Grin

specialsubject · 27/09/2018 09:59

not being brought up with a silver.spoon, she probably has the habit of closing doors rather than walking off.

she may even flush a toilet, turn off lights and put rubbish in a bin. unlike a large number of non Royals.

BlingLoving · 27/09/2018 10:07

I know, the whole thing was bizarre. And then another reporter tweeted a picture of Kate doing it and it all kicked off because everyone thought that she was suggesting that she thought it was important to mention that kate was first (from what I can gather she was pointing out that this really isn't a big deal...).

I get that when you're the royal family your private lives are grist for the mill and all that, but I think it gets completely out of hand. The Express reporter was tweeting the other day that because Meghan and Harry are going to a Zika area she's unlikely to get pregnant for a while. Now, I know that of course we all wonder - every single person who has ever got married has then had to put up with enquiring gazes, knowing looks and often, outright questions about a baby - but I think it's so inappropriate for the media to be speculating like that. I do understand that once she is pregnant, it's news, but the sly gossipy speculation is not necessary.

SassitudeandSparkle · 27/09/2018 10:12

I thought they were going to complain say she'd breached protocol by wearing black, royals don't wear it apart from funerals (Diana's black dress shortly after her engagement - she claimed she didn't know).

I also recall that the Princess of Wales should have been called Princess Charles but I think they realised early on that it would be a bit of a gaffe to insist on it.

When Charles becomes King, will William and Catherine be the Prince and Princess of Wales? William and Harry have (or use) the surname Wales, I think. I am not sure of the ins and outs of the royal titles but am slightly fascinated by all the rigidity behind it!

BlingLoving · 27/09/2018 10:13

Yes, William will be invested (or whatever the word is) as Prince of Wales. As far as I know, there's no reason harry can't keep his "surname' of Wales in theory, but now that he's the Duke of Sussex I assume he's technically Henry Sussex, not Henry Wales. But I'm not sure.

OddBoots · 27/09/2018 10:14

The car door thing is more down to security than pomp, the door is meant to be left open until the principle (Royal, VIP, whatever) is into the building they are visiting so that they have an easy escape route back into the car is there is a security concern. It was probably a reflex to just shut the door though, most of us that haven't grown up in these things would do so.

longwayoff · 27/09/2018 10:16

None of this is necessary but as we're paying for them we may as well get full entertainment value. Please dont tell me about the tourism . . .

The Royal Family hold the country back in the way they are currently set up. Embodiment of a ridlculously outdated class system. Deference and nonsense. They are bogus. Even though they may be good people. The monarchy served its purpose back in the day ,but not now. Let them run for election and win on their own merits and let us have a president we choose ourselves. I used to be a staunch monarchist but even I see how ridiculous and showbiz the younger ones are. End it after the Queen dies or let Charles or William run with others to be an elected head of state.
