Did something spontaneous... now regret and feel stupid!

So I am a very sensible, professional, 39 year old mother. I’m not (totally) boring but I’ve never really done anything really spontaneous.

But at the weekend I decided to be spontaneous and get a TATTOO.... so I got a very small one on my lower back of a bluebird.

The picture I took in was a black line drawing, similar to that you would see in an old nature book. Kind of sketched but realistic.

Went to the best tattoo shop in town and checked out the artists work. All looked amazing with loads of nature pictures. On Facebook he had countless rave reviews and a few people a know who have tattoos confirmed his good rep. He appeared totally confident and I booked in to have it done the following day.

So in a go, and he does it. It’s very small (50p sized) and it hardly hurt at all.

He told me to keep it wrapped for 1 hour then uncovered or very loose clothing until fully healed. Wash/cream etc.

Firstly, I’m not that happy with it but it’s hard to know what it will look like when fully healed. The proportions of the bird look a bit off and very different to the picture I took in and the transfer he printed off. Also the skin behind the tattoo immediately become very red and sore and all the lines became really swollen so I couldn’t really tell what it really looked like even straight after.

Since then (4 days later) it has become even more red and swollen. It actually looks like it has been drawn by a child with black felt tip!

Looking at all his other tattoos the lines are so thin and precise! There’s a tiny spider (literally about the size of a 20p) and you can see the individual hairs!!

Anyway, have seen a practice nurse and a GP today who both confirmed it is definitely not infected or an allergic reaction, I just have delicate, pale skin which has effectively been injured by the tattoo.

However, I still totally regret having it done! I feel like MASSIVE wanker for thinking I’d be spontaneous, not doing any proper research etc, only for it turn out a bit shit.

The few people I have shown have said “oh that’s lovely” but I can tell they are just being nice bless em!

Anyhoo... my AIBU question is:

AIBU to go back and ask to have it corrected? Can it even be corrected? I have since learned of an amazing artist in a nearby shop who apparently can work magic so is it worth going somewhere else... ? The only problem is, I can see they are friends on Facebook....

The other thing is my tattoo artist posted pictures of all the other work he did that day but not mine!! He obviously wasn’t that proud of it! :(

It's not too bad that little bee,, from the angle of your photo,it looks like the bee has fallen over and gone to sleep,, but it's not something you should be hiding away. Save the bees I say !

todayisnotthedayy · 29/09/2018 12:12

Could you afford to get it lasered off?

Ollivander84 · 29/09/2018 13:06

It's lovely, I think something for it to land on would work perfectly
Here's my bee on my ankle (I have 8 others!)

I really love your little bee tattoo! Love bees & thinking of one for myself now Grin

Ok as a heavily tattooed person i will break down my thoughts ( as i am better at listing things than garbling in paragraphs.)

  1. Its lovely. A bad artist would copy/trace the exact internet image. Yours is slightly different that makes it more personal.
  1. The internet image is probably bullshit. Half if pintrest tattoos are fake drawings and not real tattooes at all. The ones that are real tend to be brand new unhealed images so they look darker/crisper.
  1. Your foot skin is thin af and takes ages to heel. Also anything below the knee is further from the heart so takes ages to heel. My shins took ages.
  1. Bepanthan is evil chuck it. Palmers hard oil is way better the vitamin e in a white tub.

5.stop worrying its cute and loads of women have size 9s.

luckycat007 · 30/09/2018 23:24

You wouldn't be able to excise due to where it is - you either laser, cover up or keep.

I think it is very nice. BUT. I also know what it's like to have something on you you find you dislike so totally understand if you don't get used to it. But it IS nice!

It’s looking soooo much better now! I’ll post a photo in the morning.

TheMonkeyMummy · 13/10/2018 20:32

I love it!

HopeAndJoy16 · 13/10/2018 20:34

I think it looks great OP! I'm glad you're happier with it now (I remember reading your original post). I really want a tattoo but I'm too chicken at the moment! Maybe one day I'll be brave and spontaneous like you Smile

coffeeagogo · 13/10/2018 21:23

It's lovely op - I think it's so pretty

LimpidPools · 13/10/2018 21:58

I think it's really, really lovely.

If you were to add something, I'd add a flower at a slight distance - it looks like it's going in to land.

It looks cute as it is though. I like your bee better than I like your original photo.

cavycavy · 14/10/2018 09:46

Thank you for the lovely comments! I do this a flower will balance it out, but want it to be small! (But in proportion obviously) any ideas??
