To want to try Huel?

Liquid food for those who don't know it.

As far as I can gather they seem to be claiming you could essentially just live off Huel for the rest of your life - can this be true?! Anyone tried it?

OP posts:
Jeanclaudejackety · 26/09/2018 20:40

Probably takes the same amount of time to drink one of these than eat a sandwich??

BarbaraofSevillle · 26/09/2018 20:51

It just can't be a coincidence that Joylent sounds very much like a combination of joyless and Solent Green Grin

ivykaty44 · 26/09/2018 20:52

I can drink on duty but wouldn’t be allowed to sit and eat a sandwich

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 26/09/2018 20:56

Please Jesus just eat some food.

What a stupid invention. And what a stupid name.

megletthesecond · 26/09/2018 20:56

Eeew. No.
I read about it and came over all funny Shock.
If you want an easy breakfast make over night oats.

cloudtree · 26/09/2018 20:59

it doesn't smell even vaguely like dog food. Its very sweet (I think too sweet). Its like milkshake with a slightly bitty texture.

it isn't expensive. £1.45 for a meal.

RedPanda2 · 26/09/2018 21:06

Your teeth will overgrow if you don't chew regularly...and why would you want to only drink your meals? Seems like a slow slide to an eating disorder

HemanOrSheRa · 26/09/2018 21:07

Ah BarbaraofSevillle you beat me to it Grin.

Racecardriver · 26/09/2018 21:07

I have it sometimes when I am too lazy to male food. I do actually feel pretty good after having if but its not exactly delicious.

HemanOrSheRa · 26/09/2018 21:08

Have you added in extra l to your username BarbaraofSevillle?

MrsSquiggler · 26/09/2018 21:09

I have it for breakfast mixed with a mug of instant coffee. It's nicer than it sounds!

Make sure to get the vanilla one. Don't be tempted by the unflavoured!

Dramaticmuch · 26/09/2018 21:11

I tried living on it for a while. It was fine for the first week but then gave me terrible reflux, and acid indigestion so I had to stop using it. I think it messed up my gut bacteria as I still have reflux and acid problems even several years later.

HellaFresh · 26/09/2018 21:12

I wanted to like this. It tastes of really horrible sweetener and I nearly threw it up

RibbonAurora · 26/09/2018 21:23

Yup, soylent green was the first thing I thought when I read joylent - coincidence? I think not. Weird choice because SG turned out to be made out of humans.

On the plus side, given the lack of appetising new foodstuffs for me to try, the thread has reminded me I'm long overdue a Harry Harrison readathon.

hottestsausage · 26/09/2018 21:28

YABU simply based on how they use Facebook.

Their replies on their sponsored ads are SO rude it's hilarious.

When it pops up in my sponsored ads I have to read the comments - hence it pops up again the next day because I clicked on it Blush

lambdroid · 26/09/2018 21:46

I used Huel post baby and while breastfeeding, just for breakfast.

It was brilliant. It was the only thing that meant I wasn’t starving by 10am, and I found it so much easier to eat well for the rest of the day after starting with one properly balanced meal.

I haven’t used it in a while as am pregnant and couldn’t stomach it in the first trimester, but about to start up again. Recommended it to my family too, and they were also fans.

SleepFreeZone · 26/09/2018 21:49

OP this idea will be really bad for your teeth. We need to chew food to keep bone density in our jaws and keep our teeth attached firmly. If you stop chewing your fuel you will certainly be weakening your teeth.

Buggerbrexit · 26/09/2018 21:56

I might stockpile some for after brexit in case of armageddon. Looks bogging though.

cloudtree · 26/09/2018 22:06

ive stockpiled two bags (28 meals)

Buggerbrexit · 26/09/2018 22:09

Excellent - you’ll see things as far as 28 days later Grin

serbska · 26/09/2018 22:10

Yes but it’s much better nutritionally than a sandwich.

If you aren’t super fussed about eating for pleasure, it’s amazing. Balanced and complete vegan nutrition.

I reckon subbing huel for 2 out of 3 meals is the only way to stay under WHO sugar guidelines.

Unfortunately I really like eating and dislike drinking huel.

DP has been super big into huel from the start. It’s better mixed in a blender and with a flavour sachet, about half the amount they say. Apparently.

serbska · 26/09/2018 22:13

Even the keenest huel users generally have one solid meal a day.

People also find that they might need to chew on chewing gum after having huel to trigger digestive response or something until they get used to it.

BertieBotts · 26/09/2018 22:16

It takes me much longer to drink than eat a sandwich because there's so much of it and it's too thick (for me) to chug.

Jarstastic · 26/09/2018 22:54

My tummy too sensitive to the xylitol in it...ended up throwing most away.

That's rodents, human teeth don't grow continuously
