AIBU?

To be a bit concerned at CBBC using an obvious swearing inference?

Just had to sit here and watch Ds (4) watching a dire programme on BBC1, called 'Stupid'...it's not so much it's a load of rubbish, and to be fair he did enjoy it (or so he said ) but the main character is called (wait for it)

King stupid.

Maybe it's just me but that immediately sounds like an abbreviation of a well known phrase, one which I'd rather Ds didn't repeat in all innocence at preschool...

I am imagining him calling one of the other kids the name, or one of the teachers...as in 'You are so & so and I am so & so' type role play.

(I had to watch it as I'm 40wks+2, look like a whale and cannot move )

oh, I loathe 'Stupid'. Dd1 is innocent enough to think that stupid is a nasty swearword, and this really undermines it... she loves the bloody programme, too

if I didn't realise, why would a 4year old?

jofeb04 · 11/06/2007 16:55

lol at me being so dull today

Just don't want to be told off about him using such a phrase in public, but maybe it's not that commonly recognised...

Because you were being a bit slow on the uptake, tbh.

Grown-ups would realise when the 4yo repeated the phrase. And that would not be nice.

My DSs watch this and I'd never thought of that before - now it seems really obvious.

I raised an eyebrow a couple of weeks ago when CBeeBies used S-Express to accompany Sid showing us stuff that started with the letter S.

I don't like the word "stupid" being used as I don't want my kids to think that it is ever acceptable to use this word.

I can't help thinking whoever edits the content wasn't aware of it as that...I did ring to complain and they all knew what I meant immediately without my needing to spell it out.

lol edam, thanks
But, I've never seen the program! I'd be more worried about my dc using stupid tbh (dc are 3and 1)

Well, there's that, too, I wouldn't want ds going around saying people are stupid.

I didn't realise either. I saw it too.. we were at my dad's at his nursing home so DD put it on as she didn't have all the usual Sky channels to choose from.. and I did think "'Kin 'ell.. this is 'kin stupid.. thank got for Nick Junir at home!"

I don't like the word stupid either. Anything that smacks of derogatory or patronising comments gets my goat.

kslatts · 11/06/2007 17:09

I've not seen the programme, but would be more worried that my dd's would think it acceptable to call people stupid.

think your reading a tad too much into it tbh ...

if any and every King Whatever is short for fu'King then fairy tales and children's stories are going to have to be sadly 'pee ceed'.

If your 4 year old picks up on the King Stupid reference they know too much for their own good (and more than most of us more naieve parents) and if you infer a reference yourself why not just enjoy a childish snigger as it passes way way over your lo's innocent head.

I thought the Captain Pugwash thing was just an urban myth!

I agree king stupid is a horrible name for a programn. I'm really surprised it was allowed.
